In 2016, the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery (WJGS) has published the 8th issue which containing 8 articles contributed by scientists worldwide. Among these comprehensive articles are (1) “Surgical palliation of gastric outlet obstruction in advanced malignancy”, a Minireviews by Thomas J Miner, MD, et al from the Department of Surgical Oncology, Warren Alpert Medical School Brown University, United States; (2) “Pancreaticoduodenectomy: A study from India on the impact of evolution from a low to a high volume unit”, an Original Article by Omar J Shah, Professor, et al from the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, India; and (3) “Open abdomen in gastrointestinal surgery: Which technique is the best for temporary closure during damage control?”, a Systematic Reviews by Marcelo A F Ribeiro Junior, MD, PhD, et al from the Department of Surgery, University of Santo Amaro, Brazil, etc. We invite you to peruse all 8 articles in this issue, as they present the latest research progress/findings and provide insightful comments in gastrointestinal surgery that will guide basic research and clinical practice in these fields.
