Core Tip
Core Tip: The observational study by Li et al assessed the inflammatory response after dental implant surgery in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). While this study is clinically relevant, the mechanisms elucidating the association between elevated inflammatory markers and marginal bone loss in T2DM are scarcely described. Perirenal adipose tissue secreted adipokines and alcohol consumption may contribute to marginal peri-implant bone alterations in T2DM. Therefore, further studies are needed to assess potential covariant effects of perirenal fat and alcohol consumption on inflammatory response-mediated bone loss after dental implant surgery in patients with T2DM.
