Professor Anil K Mandal, MD, passed away on January 19, 2017 due to illness. He is diligent, assiduous, and committed to diabetes and nephrology research all his life. In 2012, professor Mandal was appointed as the editor-in-chief of the World Journal of Nephrology (WJN), and since then, he has been dedicated to his duty. On March 6, 2012, he visited Baishideng Publishing Group (BPG) and talked with the staff of the editorial office on the future development of the WJN and on how to attract more readers and authors. He pointed out that publishing high-quality peer-reviewed manuscripts is the only way to make the journal become better. Professor Mandal has submitted six manuscripts to BPG’s journals, including two to the WJN, two to the World Journal of Diabetes, one to the World Journal of Biological Chemistry, and one to the World Journal of Clinical Cases, of which two passed the peer review and were finally published. As the editor-in-chief of the WJN, Professor Mandal reviewed five manuscripts for the journal. We are very grateful for his support and contribution to the WJN over the past 5 years. Please accept our sincere condolences to professor Mandal's family.
