The smooth line represents the median survival estimate calculated from the Mayo risk scores at baseline, and the stepped line corresponds to survival calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method. The two survival curves were found to significantly differ over this time period (P = 0.01) which indicated that primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) patients with ulcerative colitis who underwent colectomy died or required liver transplantation more often than those PSC patient with ulcerative colitis who had no colectomy regarding to the same baseline calculated Mayo risk scores.
