    Core Tip
Core tip: The prevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection among the hemodialysis (HD) patients is still high. Although vaccination against HBV has became a necessity in this population, the seroprotection achieved in HD patients remains relatively low. In this review patient, HD procedure and vaccine-associated factors that affect the efficacy of HBV vaccination are analyzed. The alternative routes of HBV vaccine administration as well as new and more immunogenic vaccine formulations are discussed with a detailed view of the protocols that increase HBV vaccination efficacy.
