Abstract
This letter to the editor reviews a study published in the World Journal of Gastroenterology that evaluated the efficacy of magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate (MgIG) in protecting liver function during the perioperative period following hepatectomy. The study demonstrated that perioperative administration of MgIG (both preoperatively for prevention and postoperatively) significantly reduced the incidence of postoperative liver injury, suppressed transaminase elevation, and accelerated liver function recovery. Building on these findings, we analyze relevant issues from a clinical pharmacy perspective, including the importance of patient stratification, the necessity of safety monitoring during treatment, pharmacokinetic mechanisms, and pharmacoeconomic implications. Finally, the article emphasizes that future research should further optimize patient selection criteria, enhance safety monitoring data, investigate pharmacological mechanisms, and conduct cost-effectiveness analyses to standardize and optimize the clinical use of MgIG in hepatectomy.
