Abstract
Objective To evaluate the potential dose-response relationships of all-cause and cardiovascular death with the accumulation of various dietary habits. Setting A prospective cohort study. Methods Twenty-three dietary habits were assessed through face-to-face interviews with 57,737 participants in health check-up programs from 2015 to 2021. The total score of various dietary habits was calculated as the sum of each dietary habit multiplied by its own full-adjusted coefficient (β) for all-cause mortality in Cox proportional hazard models. Cox proportional hazard models were fitted for the associations of total and cause-specific mortality with the scores of various dietary habits. Results 1,692 deaths occurred after the earliest check-ups in our center, followed up for a median time of 2.14 years (range: 1.01-7.71 years). Total mortality was 11.23/1,000 person-years, and the mean scores of dietary habits were 2.83±2.14. All-cause mortality increased significantly with the cumulative score of dietary habits (the highest quartile vs. lowest quartile: adjusted hazard ratio [AHR], 1.72; 95 % confidence interval [CI], 1.49-1.99; Plinear <0.01). Significance was also found for cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality (HR, 1.82; 95 % CI, 1.47-2.27; Plinear <0.01), cancer mortality (AHR, 1.59; 95 % CI, 1.23-2.04; Plinear <0.01), and other-cause mortality (AHR, 2.00; 95 % CI, 1.46-2.73; Plinear <0.01). These dose-response trends were more significant in total mortality and CVD mortality among middle-aged adults, and non-obese population. Conclusions The greater the accumulation of diverse dietary habits, the higher the total mortality, CVD mortality, cancer mortality, and other mortality. This additive effect was particularly pronounced in the risk of death among middle-aged individuals and those with average body statures.

Abstract
Introduction Our study aimed to explore the association between long-term exposure to low-dose ionizing radiation (LDIR) and dyslipidemia and its components among medical radiologists, and to identify the mediating role of inflammatory markers. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted on 3918 medical radiologists, with data collected through questionnaires and occupational external exposure dosimeters. The multifactorial logistic regression and restricted cubic spline model were used to analyze the association between long-term exposure to LDIR and dyslipidemia and its components among medical radiologists, and mediation analysis was used to identify potential mediation effects. Results Of 3918 medical radiologists, 995 (25.4 %) had dyslipidemia. The gender, age, body mass index (BMI), and smoking status were influential factors for dyslipidemia of medical radiologists. After adjusting for confounders, the OR and 95 % CI for the occurrence of dyslipidemia and high TG in the highest tertile group (Q3) were 1.32 (95 % CI: 1.04, 1.67) and 1.51 (95 % CI: 1.11, 2.07), respectively. Restricted cubic spline model showed that the cumulative effective dose was linearly associated with both dyslipidemia and high TG, and the risk of dyslipidemia and high TG increased with the cumulative effective dose. Mediation analysis suggested that the inflammatory marker SII significantly mediated the association between cumulative effective dose and TG levels. Conclusion Our study shows that medical radiologists have a high detection rate of dyslipidemia, and the risk of dyslipidemia and high TG increases with increasing cumulative effective dose. Inflammatory marker SII may play a mediating role in the association between cumulative effective dose and TG levels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep is an important determinant of cardiovascular health. We sought to investigate the longitudinal association between sleep duration and incident carotid plaque in a rural Chinese population. METHODS This population-based prospective cohort study included 1004 rural residents (age ≥40 years) who were free of carotid plaque and had no history of clinical stroke and transient ischemic attack at baseline (2017). Incident carotid plaques were detected by carotid ultrasound images at follow-up (2021). Multivariable Cox regression was used to associate sleep duration with the presence and severity of incident carotid plaques. Restricted cubic splines analyses were conducted to assess dose-response association between sleep duration and incident carotid plaques. RESULTS During the mean follow-up of 3.95 (SD=0.14) years, 214 (21.3%) of the 1004 participants were found to have incident carotid plaques. A short sleep duration (<7 versus 7-9 hours) was associated with multivariable-adjusted hazard ratio (95% CI) of 1.58 (1.10-2.28) for carotid plaques, 2.96 (1.38-6.36) for greater carotid plaque thickness, and 2.57 (1.33-4.97) for multiple carotid plaques; those associations remained significant in participants with low-to-intermediate traditional cardiovascular disease risk. Long sleep duration (>9 versus 7-9 hours) was not significantly associated with carotid plaques. Restricted cubic splines supported the association of short, but not long, sleep duration with increased risk of incident carotid plaques. CONCLUSIONS A short sleep duration is a risk factor for carotid plaques, even among individuals with low-to-intermediate cardiovascular disease risk. This suggests that short sleep duration may be a potential target for early interventions to delay carotid atherosclerosis. Abstract
This study investigated the association and mediating mechanisms between magnesium depletion score (MDS) and kidney stones (KDS) in gout patients through a cross-sectional analysis. Logistic regression analysis of 502 gout patients revealed a significant positive association between MDS grade and KDS (OR = 2.14, 95% CI: 1.78-2.58), with the risk remaining elevated in the MDS4 group after adjusting for confounders (OR = 6.25, 95% CI: 2.38-16.44).Causal mediation analysis indicated that MDS fully explained the effect of serum uric acid (SUA) on KDS, suggesting that disrupted magnesium metabolism plays a key role in gout-related kidney injury. Subgroup analysis revealed an increased risk of KDS in obese, hypertensive, and diabetic patients with MDS. MDS should be incorporated into clinical risk assessments for gout, and magnesium supplementation or combined uric acid-lowering therapy should be recommended for high-risk groups to prevent KDS.

Abstract
Background and Objective: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is the result of both genetic and environmental factors. Environmental factors may contribute to the occurrence and development of T2DM by influencing epigenetic modification. The objective of this study was to explore the potential functions of two SNP-CG sites (rs7901695 of TCF7L2 and cg06500161 of ABCG1) that are most strongly associated with T2DM. Given that Uyghur population has been less studied, we conducted an intervention trial in Uyghur people to provide evidence for personalized health management of T2DM in them. Methods: From May to July 2022, 320 patients with T2DM and 332 patients without T2DM were treated with dietary pagoda-based health education intervention. The demographic data were collected before intervention and basic physical biochemical indexes before and after intervention by questionnaire and physical biochemical examination. SNP typing was performed by the TaqMan-MGB probe method, and gene methylation was detected by the pyrosequencing method. Results: The rs7901695 genotype difference of TCF7L2 was statistically significant between the case group and the control group (p < 0.05). After adjusting for covariates (smoking, alcohol consumption, exercise, fasting blood glucose (FPG), obesity, and hypertension), the genotype of rs7901695 in the TCF7L2 gene was associated with genetic susceptibility to T2DM in additive (TC vs. TT,p = 0.047; CC vs. TT,p = 0.010), dominant (p = 0.015), and recessive (p = 0.039) models. Before intervention, there were significant differences in the intake of water between the case group and the control group (p < 0.05). After intervention, there was statistical significance in the intake of coarse grains, fruits, aquatic products, eggs, dairy products, soy products, nuts, edible oils, and water between the case group and the control group (ps < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that methylation of the ABCG1 gene was correlated with T2DM susceptibility after adjustment of covariable before intervention (p = 0.015, odds ratio (OR): 1.023; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.004~1.041) but not after intervention. Generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction (GMDR) showed that the rs7901695 locus of the TCF7L2 gene and the cg06500161 locus of the ABCG1 gene had interaction with hypertension, dyslipidemia, abdominal obesity, and obesity and also had interaction with drinking, smoking, and exercise. Conclusions: The interaction of the rs7901695 site of the TCF7L2 gene and the cg06500161 site of the ABCG1 gene with environmental factors may increase the risk of T2DM in Uyghurs. The interaction between the cg06500161 site of the ABCG1 gene and environmental factors on T2DM varied with the intervention. The cg06500161 site of ABCG1 may serve as a biomarker to evaluate the effect of T2DM interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Evolocumab can reduce low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels and improve cardiovascular (CV) outcomes. While its benefits are well established in broader populations, its potential impact on patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing emergency percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains underexplored, particularly in real-world settings. This study aimed to evaluate its efficacy and safety in this specific patient group on the basis of real-world clinical experience. METHODS A total of 384 patients with STEMI who underwent emergency PCI at Hebei General Hospital between 1 July 2021 and 23 September 2022 were enrolled in this retrospective, single-center study. Of these, 85 patients received evolocumab (140 mg every 2 weeks) plus standard of care (SOC), while 299 received SOC alone. Patients were monitored for CV events and lipid levels during follow-up. Propensity score matching (PSM) and inverse probability treatment weighting (IPTW) were used to balance covariates. RESULTS The experimental group had a lower cumulative incidence of the primary composite endpoint over 18 months in the unadjusted analysis (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.353; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.180-0.693; P = 0.002), as well as after adjustment for PSM (HR = 0.341; 95% CI 0.165-0.706; P = 0.004) and IPTW (HR = 0.461; 95% CI 0.241-0.881; P = 0.019). The 18-month cumulative incidence was 10 (12%) for evolocumab + SOC and 95 (32%) for SOC. LDL-C levels in the evolocumab + SOC group showed significant reductions across different cohorts, compared with the SOC group. No significant differences in adverse events were observed between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS Evolocumab plus SOC significantly reduced postoperative CV events and LDL-C levels in patients with STEMI after emergency PCI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dyslipidemia was strongly linked to stroke, however the relationship between dyslipidemia and its components and ischemic stroke remained unexplained. AIM To investigate the link between longitudinal changes in lipid profiles and dyslipidemia and ischemic stroke in a hypertensive population. METHODS Between 2013 and 2014, 6094 hypertension individuals were included in this, and ischemic stroke cases were documented to the end of 2018. Longitudinal changes of lipid were stratified into four groups: (1) Normal was transformed into normal group; (2) Abnormal was transformed into normal group; (3) Normal was transformed into abnormal group; and (4) Abnormal was transformed into abnormal group. To examine the link between longitudinal changes in dyslipidemia along with its components and the risk of ischemic stroke, we utilized multivariate Cox proportional hazards models with hazard ratio (HR) and 95%CI. RESULTS The average age of the participants was 62.32 years ± 13.00 years, with 329 women making up 54.0% of the sample. Over the course of a mean follow-up of 4.8 years, 143 ischemic strokes happened. When normal was transformed into normal group was used as a reference, after full adjustments, the HR for dyslipidemia and ischemic stroke among abnormal was transformed into normal group, normal was transformed into abnormal group and abnormal was transformed into abnormal group were 1.089 (95%CI: 0.598-1.982; P = 0.779), 2.369 (95%CI: 1.424-3.941; P < 0.001) and 1.448 (95%CI: 1.002-2.298; P = 0.047) (P for trend was 0.233), respectively. CONCLUSION In individuals with hypertension, longitudinal shifts from normal to abnormal in dyslipidemia-particularly in total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol-were significantly associated with the risk of ischemic stroke.

Abstract
Background Aldosterone is the effector hormone in the renin angiotensin aldosterone system and existing data suggest aldosterone affect cognitive function. However, the relationship between plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) and cognitive performance remains unexplored in community dwellers. Therefore, we aimed to explore whether PAC is associated with cognitive performance in this population. Methods We cross-sectionally enrolled adults using multistage random sampling from Emin, China in 2019. Participants underwent questionnaires and data collection. Cognitive status was assessed using mini-mental state examination (MMSE) questionnaire. Multi-variable linear and logistic regression were used to explore the association between log PAC and log MMSE score, and between tertiled PAC (the higher PAC as the exposure) and low cognitive performance, respectively, in total, apparently healthy and diseased participants. Subgroup analyses also were performed by age, gender, BMI, living region, ethnicity and education attainment status. Results 27,707 subjects were included, of whom, 12,862 were apparently healthy and 14,845 had disease. Log-PAC was positively associated with log-MMSE score in the multivariable linear regression in the total (B = 0.01, 95%CI: 0-0.01, p < 0.001), apparently healthy (B = 0.01, 95%CI: 0-0.01, p = 0.007) participants, and the diseased without taking medicine (B = 0.01, 95%CI: 0.01-0.02, p = 0.004) participants. In logistic regression, the highest third tertile of PAC group showed significantly lower odds for the presence of low cognitive performance in total (OR = 0.83, 95%CI: 0.73-0.93, p = 0.002) and diseased without taking medicine participants (OR = 0.70, 95%CI: 0.57-0.86, p < 0.001). Various sub-group analysis showed largely consistent results with the main analysis. Conclusion There was a positive correlation between plasma aldosterone and cognitive functions in community dwellers, whereas further studies are need when considering the cross-sectional nature of the current study.

Abstract
Introduction Speech impediments (SIs) are increasingly prevalent among middle-aged and older adults, raising concerns within public health. Early detection of potential SI in this demographic is critical. This study investigates the potential of Activities of Daily Living (ADL) as a predictive marker for SI, utilizing data from the 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), which includes 10,136 individuals aged 45 and above. The Barthel Index (BI) was used to assess ADL, and the correlation between ADL and SI was examined through statistical analyses. Machine learning algorithms (Support Vector Machine, Decision Tree, and Logistic Regression) were employed to validate the findings and elucidate the underlying relationship between ADL and SI. Background SI poses significant challenges to the health and quality of life of middle-aged and older adults, increasing the demands on community-based and home care services. In the context of global aging, it is crucial to investigate the factors contributing to SI. While the role of ADL as a potential biomarker for SI remains unclear, this study aims to provide new evidence supporting ADL as an early predictor of SI through statistical analysis and machine learning validation. Methods Data were derived from the 2018 CHARLS national baseline survey, comprising 10,136 participants aged 45 and above. ADL was evaluated using the BI, and SI was assessed based on the CHARLS records of "Speech impediments." Statistical analyses, including independent sample t-tests, chi-square tests, Pearson and Spearman correlation tests, and hierarchical multiple linear regression, were conducted using SPSS 25.0. Machine learning algorithms, specifically Support Vector Machine (SVM), Decision Tree (DT), and Logistic Regression (LR), were implemented in Python 3.10.2. Results Analysis of demographic characteristics revealed that the average BI score in the "With Speech impediments" group was 49.46, significantly lower than the average score of 85.11 in the "Without Speech impediments" group. Pearson correlation analysis indicated a significant negative correlation between ADL and SI (r = -0.205, p < 0.001). Hierarchical multiple linear regression confirmed the robustness of this negative correlation across three models (B = -0.001, β = -0.168, t = -16.16, 95% CI = -0.001 to -0.001, p = 0.000). Machine learning algorithms validated the statistical findings, confirming the predictive accuracy of ADL for SI, with the area under the curve (AUC) scores of SVM-AUC = 0.648, DT-AUC = 0.931, and LR-AUC = 0.666. The inclusion of BI in the models improved the overall predictive performance, highlighting its positive impact on SI prediction. Conclusion The study employed various statistical methodologies to demonstrate a significant negative correlation between ADL and SI, a finding further corroborated by machine learning algorithms. Impairment in ADL increases the likelihood of SI occurrence, underscoring the importance of maintaining ADL in middle-aged and older populations to mitigate the risk of SI.

Abstract
Low-sodium salt has a protective effect on BMD and also reduces the risk of osteopenia due to elevated blood glucose. This provides a direct and effective way to improve bone health in patients with hyperglycemia. OBJECTIVE There is no consensus on the relationship between salt type and bone mineral density (BMD). This study examined the factors affecting osteoporosis and the relationship between low-sodium salt consumption with osteoporosis based on the Substitute Salt and Stroke Study (SSaSS). METHODS This study was a cross-sectional study and compares the prevalence and characteristics of osteoporosis and osteopenia. Multiple linear regression and restricted spline models were used to analyze the factors affecting BMD and its dose-response relationship with osteoporosis and to compare the effects of different salts. RESULTS The rates of osteoporosis and osteopenia were lower in those consuming low-sodium salt (31.11% and 38.52%) than in those consuming normal salt (38.65% and 41.10%). BMD was higher in the population consuming low-sodium salt than in that using normal salt (= 0.64, 95%CI: 0.25, 0.97). Age, gender, and blood glucose level interacted with low-sodium salt and together affected BMD. Analysis of the dose-response relationship revealed a positive linear association between elevated blood glucose and the risk of osteopenia (P for overall < 0.05, P for nonlinear = 0.77), but intake of low-sodium salt significantly reduced this risk. The risk of OP increased with age (P for overall < 0.05, P for nonlinear = 0.72); low-sodium salt intake reduced this risk, with the effect being more pronounced among individuals < 70 years old. CONCLUSION Low-sodium salt has a positive effect on maintaining BMD. Elevated blood glucose and age < 70 years increase the risk of osteoporosis, but use of low-sodium salt mitigates this risk.

Abstract
Objective Research on small dense low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (sdLDL-C) and menopausal status remains scarce. Our aim is to evaluate the relationship between serum sdLDL-C level and different menopausal status in a Chinese women population. Methods In 2022, a cross-sectional study was conducted including electronic standardized questionnaire surveys, anthropometric measurements, and biological specimen examinations based on communities. Permanent resident adults aged 30-69 years who lived in two communities in Zhejiang Province and participated in a community health examination from May 26 to September 17 were recruited. According to their menopausal status, the eligible women subjects were divided into premenopause, perimenopause, and postmenopause. Logistic regression model by SAS software was used to explore the association with sdLDL-C level and different menopausal status. Results A total of 2,062 women subjects were included with a median age of 57 (51, 63) years. There were 451 (21.9%) premenopause, 87 (4.2%) perimenopause, and 1,524 (73.9%) postmenopause women. The median sdLDL-C level was 0.937 (0.685, 1.209) mmol/L, and the sdLDL-C levels showed a gradually and significantly upward trend in premenopause, perimenopause, and postmenopause women, and this peaked in the postmenopause women. Logistic regression analysis showed that after controlling the confounding factors, compared with premenopause, postmenopause was significantly associated with increased sdLDL-C concentration (OR = 1.514, 95% CI: 1.025-2.238), while no significant association was observed either between serum sdLDL-C and perimenopause (compared with premenopause) or between serum sdLDL-C and postmenopause (compared with perimenopause). Conclusions An elevated sdLDL-C level was significantly associated with postmenopause and independent of chronological aging. The study supports that sdLDL-C is a promising risk biomarker for menopausal transition. Future studies should consider a broader population and a more rigorous and thorough study design to validate these findings.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Hypertension and dyslipidemia are major cardiovascular risk factors that often coexist. Hyperlipidemia is a crucial modifiable risk factor in preventing cardiovascular disease. AIM We aimed to explore the relationship between lipid levels and the grading of hypertension in a community-based adult population. METHODS A total of 63,091 non-employed individuals were included in this study. Measurements included systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), body mass index (BMI), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), total bilirubin (STB), serum creatinine (SCr), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c). Chi-square and t-tests were used to obtain basic population characteristics. Multivariate logistic regression was used to evaluate the association between the prevalence of hypertension and lipid profiles, as well as to identify influencing factors. A P-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Statistical charts were utilized to analyze the relationship between lipid parameters and hypertension grades. RESULTS A total of 30,588 men and 32,503 women with an average age of 64.57 ± 12.5 years participated in this study. After adjusting STB and TC, every 1 mmol/L increase in TG and LDL-c was associated with a 6.0% and 6.5% increase in the prevalence of hypertension, respectively. Conversely, for every 1 mmol/L increase in HDL-c, the prevalence of hypertension decreased by 4.1%. Increases in TG and LDL-c levels were observed across all grades of hypertension, while very high HDL-c was significantly associated in grade III hypertension (1.54→1.66 mmol/L). Additionally, age, BMI, FPG, ALT, AST, SCr, and BUN significantly influenced the association between hypertension and lipid levels. CONCLUSION Hyperlipidemia and hypertension often coexist in health examination populations. Elevated levels of TG and LDL-C are associated with all grades of hypertension, while extremely high HDL-C level is linked to more severe hypertension.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cluster analysis provides an effective approach in stratifying prediabetes into different subgroups; however, the association of the cluster-based subgroups with prediabetes progression and regression has not been investigated. We aimed to address this issue in a Chinese population. METHODS A total of 4,128 participants with prediabetes were included to generate cluster-based subgroups of prediabetes based on age, body mass index (BMI), triglyceride-and-glucose (TyG) index, and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), using a k-means clustering model. Among them, 1,554 participants were followed-up for about three years to ascertain prediabetes progression and regression. Their association with the cluster-based subgroups of prediabetes was assessed using multinomial logistic regression analyses. RESULTS Three clusters of prediabetes were identified among the 4,128 participants, with cluster 0, 1 and 2 accounting for 28.0%, 31.4% and 40.6%, respectively. Participants with prediabetes were featured by the youngest age and the lowest HbA1c in cluster 0, the highest BMI and TyG index in cluster 1, and the oldest age and the lowest BMI in cluster 2. After multivariable-adjustment, both cluster 1 [odds ratio (OR) 3.31, 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.01-5.44] and cluster 2 (OR 2.58, 95% CI: 1.60-4.18) were associated with increased odds of progression to diabetes when compared with cluster 0. They were also associated with decreased odds of regression to normoglycemia (OR 0.54, and 0.56, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Prediabetes participants featured by older age, higher degree of insulin resistance, higher BMI and worse glycemic condition had higher probability of progression to diabetes but lower chance of regression to normoglycemia.

Abstract
Objective To investigate the causal relationship between 233 newly reported metabolites and coronary atherosclerosis through Mendelian randomization analysis. Methods Five different methods were used to perform Mendelian randomization analysis on the 233 metabolites and coronary atherosclerosis, with inverse variance weighting as the primary result, supplemented by other methods. Results The analysis identified that certain metabolites increase the susceptibility risk of coronary atherosclerosis, including: Total fatty acids (OR = 1.40, 95% CI: 1.28-1.53, P < 0.001), Saturated fatty acids (OR = 1.44, 95% CI: 1.30-1.60, P < 0.001), Serum total triglyceride levels (OR = 1.33, 95% CI: 1.22-1.46, P < 0.001), Conjugated linoleic acid (OR = 1.16, 95% CI: 1.04-1.30, P = 0.007). Conversely, certain metabolites were found to reduce the occurrence of coronary atherosclerosis, such as: Cholesteryl esters to total lipids ratio in medium HDL (OR = 0.73, 95% CI: 0.67-0.78, P < 0.001), Cholesteryl esters to total lipids ratio in large HDL (OR = 0.64, 95% CI: 0.58-0.71, P < 0.001), Total cholesterol to total lipids ratio in medium HDL (OR = 0.71, 95% CI: 0.65-0.77, P < 0.001). Conclusion There is a close relationship between metabolites and the occurrence of coronary atherosclerosis. This study conducted Mendelian randomization analysis on the causal relationship between 233 metabolites and coronary atherosclerosis, providing potential new insights for the treatment of this disease.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to explore the clinical characteristics of thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) with hyperlipidemia and to identify the key lipid indicator. Methods Patients with TAO were recruited to this study and divided into two groups based on the presence of hyperlipidemia. TAO patients with hyperlipidemia were further classified based on the type of hyperlipidemia. Basic and clinical information of the patients were collected, and comparisons between groups were carried out. Correlation analyses, regression analyses, and stratified analysis were performed to assess the correlations and relationship of the serum lipids with the ophthalmic indicators. Results A total of 273 patients with TAO were recruited, including 158 patients with hyperlipidemia and 115 patients without hyperlipidemia. Patients with hyperlipidemia, especially those with mixed hyperlipidemia, exhibited high intraocular pressure (IOP). Spearman's correlation analysis and partial correlation analysis showed that apolipoprotein E (ApoE) was positively related to IOP levels after controlling for confounding factors, including age, gender, BMI, smoking history, triiodothyronine (T3), and thyrotropin (thyroid-stimulating hormone, TSH). Moreover, multiple linear regression obtained a regression equation including ApoE, gender, age, and BMI and showed that elevated ApoE levels were associated with elevated IOP [β = 0.072, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.037-0.155, p = 0.030]. Stratified analysis highlighted the impact of ApoE on IOP in younger patients (≤48 years), female patients, patients with normal BMI (<24 kg/m2), and patients with a shorter course of ophthalmopathy (≤6 months). Conclusion Overall, higher IOP levels were observed in patients with hyperlipidemia, especially those with mixed hyperlipidemia. Notably, a higher ApoE was identified as an independent risk factor for higher IOP. This finding confirmed the close relationship between TAO and lipid metabolism and provides a new insight into the pathogenesis research and the long-term management of TAO.

Abstract
BACKGROUNDS This investigation seeks to explore the correlation between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), and to to provide evidence for the prevention and treatment of CVDs. METHODS This study utilized data from the Jinchang cohort platform, including 19,399 participants without pre-existing major CVDs. Based on the general population and gender stratification, Cox models were used to analyze the risk of NAFLD for CVDs. The combined effect of NAFLD and different obesity indicators on CVDs was analyzed by additive and multiplicative interaction models and subgroups. RESULTS There were 3129 NAFLD patients out of 19399 subjects, and 723 (23.11%) of them had the CVD. After adjusting for multiple confounding factors, the Cox model revealed a 1.17-fold increase in the risk of CVDs among patients with NAFLD compared to those without NAFLD. Moreover, there was no notable disparity in CVDs risk among most NAFLD patients at the same level of obesity. The results indicated no additive interaction between NAFLD and obesity concerning CVDs risk, but rather a positive multiplicative interaction. Using the normal population as a reference, it was found that people with both obesity and NAFLD significantly increased the risk of developing CVDs, with HRs and 95% CIs of 1.790 (1.508, 2.126), 1.356 (1.213, 1.517), and 1.807 (1.503, 2.174), respectively, for BMI, WC, and the combination of BMI and WC. CONCLUSIONS NAFLD and obesity are independent risk factors for CVDs. The synergy of obesity and NAFLD implies that NAFLD patients should control weight gain. Larger BMI and WC values may increase the CVDs risk for NAFLD patients, especially women.

Abstract
Purpose Meteorin-like (Metrnl) is a novel adipokine which is highly expressed in adipose tissue and has a beneficial effect on glucose and lipid metabolism. High density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) is well recognized to be inversely associated with cardiovascular events. However, the relationship between serum Metrnl levels and HDL-C in the type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains unclear. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the association of serum Metrnl with HDL-C levels in T2DM. Materials and Methods Eighty participants with T2DM were included in this cross-sectional study. They were divided into two groups according to HDL-C levels: Group1 (lower HDL-C group): HDL-C < 1.04 mmol/L; Group2 (higher HDL-C group): HDL-C ≥ 1.04 mmol/L. Serum Metrnl levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results As compared with lower HDL-C levels groups, serum Metrnl levels were significantly higher in the group with higher HDL-C. Binary logistic regression analysis showed serum Metrnl levels were positively associated with HDL-C group after adjustment with sex, age, body mass index (BMI), mean arterial pressure (MAP), fasting blood glucose (FPG), triglyceride (TG). Furthermore, serum Metrnl levels were inversely correlated with insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR). HDL-C levels were lowest in the group with the lowest Metrnl levels group and remained positively associated with Metrnl after adjustment for sex, age, BMI, TG, and HOMA-IR by using multivariate logistic regression analysis. Conclusion Serum Metrnl levels were positively associated with HDL-C levels in patients with T2DM.This suggests that increasing serum Metrnl levels maybe a candidate for improving lipid metabolism and preventing cardiovascular events in T2DM. Abstract
BACKGROUND The association and its population heterogeneities between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality remain unknown. We aimed to examine the dose-dependent associations of LDL-C levels with specific types of cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality and heterogeneities in the associations among different population subgroups. METHODS A total of 2,968,462 participants aged 35-75 years from China Health Evaluation And risk Reduction through nationwide Teamwork (ChinaHEART) (2014-2019) were included. Cox proportional hazard models and Fine-Gray subdistribution hazard models were used to estimate associations between LDL-C categories (<70.0, 70.0-99.9, 100.0-129.9 [reference group], 130.0-159.9, 160.0-189.9, and ≥190.0 mg/dL) and all-cause and cause-specific mortality. RESULTS During a median follow-up of 3.7 years, 57,391 and 23,241 deaths from all-cause and overall CVD were documented. We observed J-shaped associations between LDL-C and death from all-cause, overall CVD, coronary heart disease (CHD), and ischemic stroke, and an L-shaped association between LDL-C and hemorrhagic stroke (HS) mortality ( P for non-linearity <0.001). Compared with the reference group (100.0-129.9 mg/dL), very low LDL-C levels (<70.0 mg/dL) were significantly associated with increased risk of overall CVD (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.10, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.06-1.14) and HS mortality (HR: 1.37, 95% CI: 1.29-1.45). Very high LDL-C levels (≥190.0 mg/dL) were associated with increased risk of overall CVD (HR: 1.51, 95% CI: 1.40-1.62) and CHD mortality (HR: 2.08, 95% CI: 1.92-2.24). The stronger associations of very low LDL-C with risk of CVD mortality were observed in individuals with older age, low or normal body mass index, low or moderate 10-year atherosclerotic CVD risk, and those without diagnosed CVD or taking statins. Stronger associations between very high LDL-C levels and all-cause and CVD mortality were observed in younger people. CONCLUSIONS People with very low LDL-C had a higher risk of all-cause, CVD, and HS mortality; those with very high LDL-C had a higher risk of all-cause, CVD, and CHD mortality. On the basis of our findings, comprehensive health assessment is needed to evaluate cardiovascular risk and implement appropriate lipid-lowering therapy for people with very low LDL-C.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the association of serum saturated fatty acids (SFAs) and prevalent mild cognitive impairment (MCI) among middle-aged and elderly Chinese. METHODS A total of 607 Chinese adults aged at least 45 years were included in the baseline survey of The Lifestyle and Healthy Aging of Chinese Square Dancer Study. Serum concentrations of individual SFAs including 6 even-chain SFAs (C14:0, C16:0, C18:0, C20:0, C22:0, and C24:0) and 4 odd-chain SFAs (C15:0, C17:0, C21:0, and C23:0), were quantified by Gas chromatography system with a mass spectrometer. According to Petersen's criteria, prevalent MCI was diagnosed by neurologists through uniformed neuropsychological tests, including trail-making test-part B (TMT-B), auditory verbal learning test (AVLT), digit symbol substitution test (DSST), and verbal fluency test (VFT). RESULTS The median age was 62 years with an interquartile range of 57.0 to 67.0 years, and 86 (14.17%) participants were living with MCI. Higher levels of either even-chain or odd-chain individual SFAs were associated with the higher odds of MCI, and their odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CIs) were 2.054 (1.012 to 4.171) for C14:0, 2.246 (1.061 to 4.755) for C16:0, 2.789 (1.321 to 5.886) for C18:0, and 2.329 (1.136 to 4.778) for C15:0, and 2.761 (1.310 to 5.820) for C17:0, respectively. CONCLUSIONS The serum concentration of SFAs was positively related to the odds of MCI in middle-aged and elderly adults. Determining the link between SFAs profiles and MCI may inform a better understanding of the potential role of saturated fat intake on cognitive function.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) and diameter, stiffness, and wave reflections, are independent and important clinical biomarkers and risk predictors for cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of the present study was to establish nationwide reference values of carotid properties for healthy Chinese adults and to explore potential clinical determinants. METHODS A total of 3053 healthy Han Chinese adults (1922 women) aged 18-79 years were enrolled at 28 collaborating tertiary centers throughout China between April 2021 and July 2022. The real-time tracking of common carotid artery walls was achieved by the radio frequency (RF) ultrasound system. The IMT, diameter, compliance coefficient, β stiffness, local pulse wave velocity (PWV), local systolic blood pressure, augmented pressure (AP), and augmentation index (AIx) were then automatically measured and reported. Data were stratified by age groups and sex. The relationships between age and carotid property parameters were analyzed by Jonckheere-Terpstra test and simple linear regressions. The major clinical determinants of carotid properties were identified by Pearson's correlation, multiple linear regression, and analyses of covariance. RESULTS All the parameters of carotid properties demonstrated significantly age-related trajectories. Women showed thinner IMT, smaller carotid diameter, larger AP, and AIx than men. The β stiffness and PWV were significantly higher in men than women before forties, but the differences reversed after that. The increase rate of carotid IMT (5.5 μm/year in women and 5.8 μm/year in men) and diameter (0.03 mm/year in both men and women) were similar between men and women. For the stiffness and wave reflections, women showed significantly larger age-related variations than men as demonstrated by steeper regression slopes (all P for age by sex interaction <0.05). The blood pressures, body mass index (BMI), and triglyceride levels were identified as major clinical determinants of carotid properties with adjustment of age and sex. CONCLUSIONS The age- and sex-specific reference values of carotid properties measured by RF ultrasound for healthy Chinese adults were established. The blood pressures, BMI, and triglyceride levels should be considered for clinical application of corresponding reference values.

Abstract
Accumulating research suggested that long-term exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is related to cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, evidence regarding the relationship between PM2.5 and CVD risk factors remains inconsistent. We hypothesized that this association may be partially modified by socioeconomic status (SES). To investigate the relationships and to test the modifying effect of SES, we included baseline data for 21,018 adults from September 2017 to May 2018. PM2.5 concentrations were determined by employing an amalgamation of linear measurements obtained from monitoring stations located near the participants' residential and workplace addresses. We assessed SES across several domains, including income, education, and occupation levels, as well as through a composite SES index. The results indicated that for every 10 μg/m3 increase in PM2.5 exposure, the risk of hypercholesterolemia, hyperbetalipoproteinemia, diabetes, and hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) increased by 7.7% [Odds ratio (OR) = 1.077, 95% Confidence Interval (CI) = 1.011, 1.146], 19.6% (OR = 1.196, 95% CI = 1.091, 1.312), 4.2% (OR = 1.042, 95% CI = 1.002, 1.084), and 17.1% (OR = 1.171, 95% CI = 1.133, 1.209), respectively. Compared to the high SES group, those with low SES are more prone to hypercholesterolemia, hyperbetalipoproteinemia, diabetes, and HHcy. Notably, the disparities in SES appear significant in the relationship between PM2.5 exposure and hypercholesterolemia as well as hyperbetalipoproteinemia. But for diabetes and HHcy, the modification effect of SES on PM2.5 shows an inconsistent pattern. In conclusion, the results confirm the association between PM2.5 and cardiovascular risk factors and low SES significantly amplified the adverse PM2.5 effect on dyslipidemia. It is crucial to emphasize a need to improve the socioeconomic inequality among adults in Beijing and contribute to the understanding of the urgency in protecting the health of vulnerable groups.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Previous studies focused on the benefits of adequate prosthodontic treatment, while few studies have investigated the prosthodontic-related risks to health. As a modifiable oral health indicator, the association of ill-fitting prosthesis (IFP) with hypertension has not been fully explored. METHODS This cross-sectional study involved 158,659 adults in Beijing (2009-2017) receiving intra-oral examinations and blood pressure measurements. Logistic regression models were applied to assess the association of IFP with the prevalence of hypertension, systolic blood pressure (SBP) ≧ 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) ≧ 90 mmHg, as well as subgroup analyses by different fixed IFP subgroups (according to involved teeth number) and removable IFP subgroup. We further investigated effect modifications among stratified populations. RESULTS 158,659 individuals were included for analysis, 346 (26.86%) in IFP group and 27,380 (17.40%) in non-IFP group (p < 0.001) were hypertensive. After adjustment of sex, age, obesity, dyslipidaemia, diabetes, hsCRP, family history of CVD, self-reported smoking, self-reported drinking and WC, ORs of hypertension, SBP ≧ 140 mmHg and DBP ≧ 90 mmHg were 1.330 (95% CI: 1.162-1.522), 1.277 (95% CI: 1.098-1.486) and 1.376 (95% CI: 1.186-1.596), respectively (p < 0.05). Furthermore, after full adjustment, the number of involved teeth showed a significant incremental trend with hypertension risk in the population with and without IFP (p for trend <0.001). The IFP-blood pressure associations were more pronounced in females, 18-60 years, non-obese and diabetic participants. CONCLUSION As a modifiable oral indicator, IFP was significantly associated with a higher risk of hypertension.

Abstract
Background Whether the relationship of intracerebral bleeding risk with lipid profile may vary by sex remains unclear. This study aims to investigate potential sex differences in the association between lipid profile and the risk of symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) who received intravenous thrombolysis using recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (r-tPA). Methods This multicenter retrospective observational study analyzed patients with AIS treated with intravenous r-tPA. sICH was defined as a worsening of 4 or higher points in the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score within 36 hours after intravenous thrombolysis in any hemorrhage subtype. We assessed the odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) of lipid profile for sICH for each sex using logistic regression models adjusted for potential confounding factors. Results Of 957 participants (median age 68 (interquartile range, 59-75), men 628 (65.6%)), 56 sICH events (36 (5.7%) in men and 20 (6.1%) in women) were observed. The risk of sICH in men decreased with increasing serum levels of triglyceride after adjustment for confounding factors (vs lowest tertile, medium tertile OR 0.39, 95% CI [0.17-0.91], top tertile OR 0.33, 95% CI [0.13-0.84], overall p = 0.021; per point increase, adjusted OR 0.29, 95% CI [0.13-0.63], p = 0.002). Neither serum levels of total cholesterol nor low-density lipoprotein (LDL) was associated with sICH in men. In women, there was no association between any of the lipid levels and the risk of sICH. Conclusions This study indicated that the association between serum levels of triglyceride and sICH may vary by sex. In men, increased triglyceride levels decrease the risk of sICH; in women, this association was lost. Further studies on the biological mechanisms for sex differences in stroke risk associated with triglyceride are needed.

Abstract
This study aimed to explore the link between various forms of obesity, including body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC), and the risk of dyslipidemia among Chinese residents. We selected the study population through a multi-stage random sampling method from permanent residents aged 35 and older in Ganzhou. Obesity was categorized as non-obesity, general obesity, central obesity, or compound obesity according to established diagnostic criteria. We employed a logistic regression model to assess the relationship between different types of obesity and the risk of dyslipidemia. Additionally, we used the restricted cubic spline model to analyze the association between BMI, WC, and the risk of dyslipidemia. The study included 2030 residents aged 35 or older from Ganzhou, China. The prevalence of dyslipidemia was found to be 39.31%, with an age-standardized prevalence of 36.51%. The highest prevalence of dyslipidemia, 58.79%, was observed among those with compound obesity. After adjusting for confounding factors, we found that the risk of dyslipidemia in those with central and compound obesity was respectively 2.00 (95% CI 1.62-2.46) and 2.86 (95% CI 2.03-4.03) times higher than in the non-obese population. Moreover, the analysis using the restricted cubic spline model indicated a nearly linear association between BMI, WC, and the risk of dyslipidemia. The findings emphasize the significant prevalence of both dyslipidemia and obesity among adults aged 35 and above in Ganzhou, China. Notably, individuals with compound obesity are at a substantially increased risk of dyslipidemia. Therefore, it is crucial to prioritize the use of BMI and WC as screening and preventive measures for related health conditions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The global prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is 25%. This study aimed to explore differences in the gut microbial community and blood lipids between normal livers and those affected by NAFLD using 16S ribosomal deoxyribonucleic acid sequencing. METHODS Gut microbiome profiles of 40 NAFLD and 20 non-NAFLD controls were analyzed. Information about four blood lipids and 13 other clinical features was collected. Patients were divided into three groups by ultrasound and FibroScan, those with a normal liver, mild FL (FL1), and moderate-to-severe FL (FL2). FL1 and FL2 patients were divided into two groups, those with either hyperlipidemia or non-hyperlipidemia based on their blood lipids. Potential keystone species within the groups were identified using univariate analysis and a specificity-occupancy plot. Significant difference in biochemical parameters ion NAFLD patients and healthy individuals were identified by detrended correspondence analysis and canonical correspondence analysis. RESULTS Decreased gut bacterial diversity was found in patients with NAFLD. Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes decreased as NAFLD progressed. Faecalibacterium and Ruminococcus 2 were the most representative fatty-related bacteria. Glutamate pyruvic transaminase, aspartate aminotransferase, and white blood cell count were selected as the most significant biochemical indexes. Calculation of areas under the curve identified two microbiomes combined with the three biochemical indexes that identified normal liver and FL2 very well but performed poorly in diagnosing FL1. CONCLUSIONS Faecalibacterium and Ruminococcus 2, combined with glutamate pyruvic transaminase, aspartate aminotransferase, and white blood cell count distinguished NAFLD. We speculate that regulating the health of gut microbiota may release NAFLD, in addition to providing new targets for clinicians to treat NAFLD.

Abstract
Background EPs pose significant challenges to individual health and quality of life, attracting attention in public health as a risk factor for diminished quality of life and healthy life expectancy in middle-aged and older adult populations. Therefore, in the context of global aging, meticulous exploration of the factors behind emotional issues becomes paramount. Whether ADL can serve as a potential marker for EPs remains unclear. This study aims to provide new evidence for ADL as an early predictor of EPs through statistical analysis and validation using machine learning algorithms. Methods Data from the 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) national baseline survey, comprising 9,766 samples aged 45 and above, were utilized. ADL was assessed using the BI, while the presence of EPs was evaluated based on the record of "Diagnosed with Emotional Problems by a Doctor" in CHARLS data. Statistical analyses including independent samples t-test, chi-square test, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression were conducted using SPSS 25.0. Machine learning algorithms, including Support Vector Machine (SVM), Decision Tree (DT), and Logistic Regression (LR), were implemented using Python 3.10.2. Results Population demographic analysis revealed a significantly lower average BI score of 65.044 in the "Diagnosed with Emotional Problems by a Doctor" group compared to 85.128 in the "Not diagnosed with Emotional Problems by a Doctor" group. Pearson correlation analysis indicated a significant negative correlation between ADL and EPs (r = -0.165, p < 0.001). Iterative analysis using stratified multiple linear regression across three different models demonstrated the persistent statistical significance of the negative correlation between ADL and EPs (B = -0.002, β = -0.186, t = -16.476, 95% CI = -0.002, -0.001, p = 0.000), confirming its stability. Machine learning algorithms validated our findings from statistical analysis, confirming the predictive accuracy of ADL for EPs. The area under the curve (AUC) for the three models were SVM-AUC = 0.700, DT-AUC = 0.742, and LR-AUC = 0.711. In experiments using other covariates and other covariates + BI, the overall prediction level of machine learning algorithms improved after adding BI, emphasizing the positive effect of ADL on EPs prediction. Conclusion This study, employing various statistical methods, identified a negative correlation between ADL and EPs, with machine learning algorithms confirming this finding. Impaired ADL increases susceptibility to EPs.

Abstract
Background The systemic immuno-inflammation index (SII), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are widely used and have been shown to be predictive indicators of various diseases. Diabetic nephropathy (DN), retinopathy (DR), and peripheral neuropathy (DPN) are the most prominent and common microvascular complications, which have seriously negative impacts on patients, families, and society. Exploring the associations with these three indicators and diabetic microvascular complications are the main purpose. Methods There were 1058 individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in this retrospective cross-sectional study. SII, NLR, and PLR were calculated. The diseases were diagnosed by endocrinologists. Logistic regression and subgroup analysis were applied to evaluate the association between SII, NLP, and PLR and diabetic microvascular complications. Results SII, NLR, and PLR were significantly associated with the risk of DN [odds ratios (ORs): 1.52, 1.71, and 1.60, respectively] and DR [ORs: 1.57, 1.79, and 1.55, respectively] by multivariate logistic regression. When NLR ≥2.66, the OR was significantly higher for the risk of DPN (OR: 1.985, 95% confidence interval: 1.29-3.05). Subgroup analysis showed no significant positive associations across different demographics and comorbidities, including sex, age, hypertension, HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin), and dyslipidemia. Conclusion This study found a positive relationship between NLR and DN, DR, and DPN. In contrast, SII and PLR were found to be only associated with DN and DR. Therefore, for the diagnosis of diabetic microvascular complications, SII, NLR and PLR are highly valuable.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Insulin resistance (IR) is a feature of metabolic syndrome and plays an important role in cognitive impairment (CI). The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a convenient and cost-effective surrogate for assessing IR. This study aimed to assess the association between the TyG index and CI. METHODS This community population-based cross-sectional study used a cluster-sampling methodology. All participants underwent the education-based Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), and those with CI were identified using standard thresholds. The fasting blood triglyceride and glucose levels were measured in the morning, and the TyG index was calculated as ln (½ fasting triglyceride level [mg/dL] × fasting blood glucose level [mg/dL]). Multivariable logistic regression and subgroup analysis were used to assess the relationship between the TyG index and CI. RESULTS This study included 1484 subjects, of which 93 (6.27%) met the CI criteria. Multivariable logistic regression showed that CI incidence increased by 64% per unit increase in the TyG index (odds ratio [OR] = 1.64, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.02-2.63, p = 0.042). CI risk was 2.64-fold higher in the highest TyG index quartile compared to the lowest TyG index quartile (OR = 2.64, 95% CI: 1.19-5.85, p = 0.016). Finally, interaction analysis showed that sex, age, hypertension, and diabetes did not significantly affect the association between the TyG index and CI. CONCLUSION The present study suggested that an elevated TyG index was associated with a higher CI risk. Subjects with a higher TyG index should manage and treat at an early stage to alleviate the cognitive decline.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Resolvin D2 (RvD2) has been reported to protect against the development of atherosclerosis in animal models. The objective of this study was to examine the prospective association between plasma RvD2 and the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) at the population level. METHODS AND RESULTS A cohort of 2633 community-dwelling individuals aged 35-60 years was followed for 8 years in this study. Adjusted hazard ratios and 95% CIs for ASCVD outcomes according to baseline RvD2 levels were calculated using Cox proportional hazards models. Mediation analysis was used to test the indirect effect of serum cholesterol indicators on the association between RvD2 and ASCVD probability. In total, 284 new cases of ASCVD were identified during follow-up. An inverted U-shaped association between natural log (ln)-transformed RvD2 and incident ASCVD was determined, and the threshold value for lnRvD2 was 3.87. Below the threshold, each unit increase in lnRvD2 was associated with a 2.05-fold increased risk of ASCVD (95% CI, 1.13-3.74; P=0.019). Above the threshold, each unit increase in lnRvD2 was associated with a 36% reduced risk of ASCVD (95% CI, 0.51-0.80; P<0.001). In addition, the association between RvD2 and ASCVD probability was partially mediated by high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (15.81%) when lnRvD2 <3.87, but by total cholesterol (30.23%) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (30.13%) when lnRvD2 ≥3.87. CONCLUSIONS Both lower and higher RvD2 levels are associated with a reduced risk of ASCVD, forming an inverted U-shaped relationship. Furthermore, this association is partially mediated by total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The prevalence of diabetes and obesity has been continuously rising worldwide over the last three decades, particularly in China. The prevalence varies widely among different ethnicities. In this study, we investigated the prevalence of diabetes and obesity, as well as the associated factors for diabetes in Kazakh adults in Xinjiang to improve diabetes screening. METHODS We collected data from the Xinjiang physical examination in 2018, including a total sample of 118,505 Kazakh adults in Altay District. Data on demographic characteristics, medical history, physical examination, fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and serum lipid profiles were collected. The chi-square test was used to examine the differences between multiple variables. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to identify the factors associated with diabetes. RESULTS The mean age was 43. 66 years (SD 14.14). 49.3% of the population were women and 75.5% were rural residents. The mean FPG was 5.33 mmol/L (SD 1.22). The prevalence of diabetes was 6.3% and 4.1% received a new diagnosis by FPG. 26.6% were diagnosed with impaired fasting glucose (IFG). The mean body mass index (BMI) was 26.29 kg/m2 (SD 14.14) and the mean waist circumference was 87.69 cm (SD 12.74). 33.2% of the population were overweight, and 33.0% were obese. The prevalence of central obesity was 51.4%. Diabetes was mostly positively associated with hypertension (OR = 3.821, P<0.001), hypertriglyceridemia (OR = 2.757, P<0.001), and hyper-LDL-cholesterolemia (OR = 2.331, P<0.001) in the Kazakh population. The ORs for overweight, obesity and central obesity predictive of diabetes were 1.265, 1.453 and 1.222 ( all P<0.001), respectively. CONCLUSIONS Despite having a high prevalence of obesity and central obesity, the Kazakh population had a considerably low prevalence of diabetes. Obesity was not the most important risk factor for diabetes in Kazakh individuals. The awareness of diabetes was low. When screening for diabetes in Kazakhs, those with hypertension or dyslipidemia should receive more attention.

Abstract
Objective To examine the joint association of healthy lifestyles and statin use with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in high-risk individuals, and evaluate the survival benefits by life expectancy. Methods During 2015-2021, participants aged 35-75 years were recruited by the China Health Evaluation And risk Reduction through nationwide Teamwork. Based on number of healthy lifestyles related to smoking, alcohol drinking, physical activity, and diet, we categorized them into: very healthy (3-4), healthy (2), and unhealthy (0-1). Statin use was determined by self-report taking statin in last two weeks. Results Among the 265,209 included participants at high risk, 6979 deaths were observed, including 3236 CVD deaths during a median 3.6 years of follow-up. Individuals taking statin and with a very healthy lifestyle had the lowest risk of all-cause (HR: 0.70; 95 %CI: 0.57-0.87) and cardiovascular mortality (0.56; 0.40-0.79), compared with statin non-users with an unhealthy lifestyle. High-risk participants taking statin and with a very healthy lifestyle had the highest years of life gained (5.90 years at 35-year-old [4.14-7.67; P < 0.001]) compared with statin non-users with an unhealthy lifestyle among high-risk people. And their life expectancy was comparable with those without high risk but with a very healthy lifestyle (4.49 vs. 4.68 years). Conclusion The combination of preventive medication and multiple healthy lifestyles was associated with lower risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality and largest survival benefits. Integrated strategy to improve long-term health for high-risk people was urgently needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Visceral adipose tissue plays an active role in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes and vascular dysfunction. The lipid accumulation product (LAP), visceral adiposity index (VAI), and Chinese VAI (CVAI) have been proposed as simple and validated surrogate indices for measuring visceral adipose tissue. However, the evidence from prospective studies on the associations between these novel indices of visceral obesity and diabetic retinopathy (DR) remains scant. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the longitudinal associations of LAP, VAI, and CVAI with incident DR in Chinese patients with diabetes. METHODS This was a prospective cohort study conducted in Guangzhou in southern China. We collected baseline data between November 2017 and July 2020, while on-site follow-up visits were conducted annually until January 2022. The study participants consisted of 1403 patients with a clinical diagnosis of diabetes, referred from primary care, who were free of DR at baseline. The LAP, VAI, and CVAI levels were calculated by sex-specific equations based on anthropometric and biochemical parameters. DR was assessed using 7-field color stereoscopic fundus photographs and graded according to the modified Airlie House Classification scheme. Time-dependent Cox proportional hazard models were constructed to estimate the hazard ratios with 95% CIs. Restricted cubic spline curves were fitted to examine the dose-response relationship between the 3 indices of visceral obesity and new-onset DR. Subgroup analyses were performed to investigate the potential effect modifiers. RESULTS The mean age of study participants was 64.5 (SD 7.6) years, and over half (816/1403, 58.2%) were female. During a median follow-up of 2.13 years, 406 DR events were observed. A 1-SD increment in LAP, VAI, or CVAI was consistently associated with increased risk for new-onset DR, with a multivariable‑adjusted hazard ratio of 1.24 (95% CI 1.09-1.41; P=.001), 1.22 (95% CI 1.09-1.36; P<.001), and 1.48 (95% CI 1.19-1.85; P=.001), respectively. Similar patterns were observed across tertiles in LAP (P for trend=.001), VAI (P for trend<.001), and CVAI (P for trend=.009). Patients in the highest tertile of LAP, VAI, and CVAI had an 84%, 86%, and 82% higher hazard of DR, respectively, compared to those in the lowest tertile. A nonlinear dose-response relationship with incident DR was noted for LAP and VAI (both P for nonlinearity<.05), but not for CVAI (P for nonlinearity=.51). We did not detect the presence of effect modification by age, sex, duration of diabetes, BMI, or comorbidity (all P for interaction>.10). CONCLUSIONS Visceral obesity, as measured by LAP, VAI, or CVAI, is independently associated with increased risk for new-onset DR in Chinese patients with diabetes. Our findings may suggest the necessity of incorporating regular monitoring of visceral obesity indices into routine clinical practice to enhance population-based prevention for DR.

Abstract
Background Limited studies have investigated the relationship between famine exposure and the risk of hyperuricemia in later life. Consequently, the primary purpose of the current study was to examine the potential association between exposure to Chinese famine and hyperuricemia, as well as any gender disparities in this relationship. Method The data were obtained from the China PEACE (China Patient-Centered Evaluative Assessment of Cardiac Events) Million Persons Project in Rongchang. The study participants were enrolled into different cohorts based on their birthdates: the fetal-exposed cohort (born between 1959 and 1962), the childhood-exposed cohort (born between 1949 and 1958), the adolescence-exposed cohort (born between 1941 and 1948), and the non-exposed cohorts (born between 1963 and 1974). The potential association between famine exposure and hyperuricemia was assessed using binary logistic regression models. Results A total of 6,916 individuals were enrolled in the current study with an average age of 60.11 ± 9.22 years, out of which 3,544 were women. After adjusting for confounding factors, fetal (OR = 0.530, 95% CI: 0.411-0.0.683), childhood (OR = 0.642, 95% CI: 0.494-0.833) exposure to the Chinese famine for men was negatively associated with hyperuricemia. Conversely, exposure to the Chinese famine during fetal (OR = 2.144, 95% CI: 1.622-2.834), childhood (OR = 1.485, 95% CI: 1.105-1.997), and adolescence (OR = 1.967, 95% CI: 1.465-2.641) for women was positively associated with hyperuricemia. Furthermore, the impact of famine on hyperuricemia that has been observed in exposed women might be intensified by the presence of dyslipidemia, abdominal obesity, and overweight/obesity. Conclusion Women exposed to the Chinese famine during fetal, childhood, and adolescence were positively associated with hyperuricemia, while men exhibited a negative association during fetal and childhood. Additionally, the effect of famine on hyperuricemia in exposed women appears to be intensified by the presence of dyslipidemia, abdominal obesity, and overweight/obesity.

Abstract
Background Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major public health problem worldwide. Periodic surveys are essential for monitoring the prevalence of CKD and its risk factors. We assessed the prevalence of CKD and its risk factors in Mianzhu City in 2020. Method The Natural Population Cohort Study surveyed 7,770 individuals aged>20 years in Mianzhu City of Sichuan province in 2020. Our investigation encompassed the measurement of CKD prevalence, the evaluation of various renal function indicators, and comparisons based on age, gender, and hukou status. Additionally, some metabolic indices were also measured to identify the underlying causes of CKD. Results (1) Overall, the prevalence of reduced renal function (eGFR<60 mL/min/1.73m2), albuminuria, and CKD were 1.3, 10.0, and 10.4%, respectively, (2) the overall prevalence of CKD was higher among men than among women (14.5% vs. 8.6%). Similarly, the prevalence of CKD was higher among men than women in most age groups, (3) among urban residents, the prevalence of CKD was higher among middle-aged individuals and lower among young individuals and older adults, and (4) considering eGFR, the albuminuria and CKD for group definition, Blood pressure, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein, blood sugar, and BMI were all statistically different among between normal groups and abnormal groups s in the albuminuria and CKD. Conclusion The incidence of CKD greatly varied between Mianzhu City and other regions in China and other countries. The differences in risk factors of CKD should be explored in the future. The gender difference in the prevalence of CKD in this study was markedly different from that in previous studies. More high-quality studies are needed to further explore this controversy. Based on the different prevalence of CKD and metabolism-related indices in rural and urban areas in this study, we speculated that the high incidence of CKD in Mianzhu City might be related to diet, lifestyle, and availability of healthcare services.

Abstract
Introduction Memory-related diseases (MDs) pose a significant healthcare challenge globally, and early detection is essential for effective intervention. This study investigates the potential of Activities of Daily Living (ADL) as a clinical diagnostic indicator for MDs. Utilizing data from the 2018 national baseline survey of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), encompassing 10,062 Chinese individuals aged 45 or older, we assessed ADL using the Barthel Index (BI) and correlated it with the presence of MDs. Statistical analysis, supplemented by machine learning algorithms (Support Vector Machine, Decision Tree, and Logistic Regression), was employed to elucidate the relationship between ADL and MDs. Background MDs represent a significant public health concern, necessitating early detection and intervention to mitigate their impact on individuals and society. Identifying reliable clinical diagnostic signs for MDs is imperative. ADL have garnered attention as a potential marker. This study aims to rigorously analyze clinical data and validate machine learning algorithms to ascertain if ADL can serve as an indicator of MDs. Methods Data from the 2018 national baseline survey of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) were employed, encompassing responses from 10,062 Chinese individuals aged 45 or older. ADL was assessed using the BI, while the presence of MDs was determined through health report questions. Statistical analysis was executed using SPSS 25.0, and machine learning algorithms, including Support Vector Machine (SVM), Decision Tree Learning (DT), and Logistic Regression (LR), were implemented using Python 3.10.2. Results Population characteristics analysis revealed that the average BI score for individuals with MDs was 70.88, significantly lower than the average score of 87.77 in the control group. Pearson's correlation analysis demonstrated a robust negative association (r = -0.188, p < 0.001) between ADL and MDs. After adjusting for covariates such as gender, age, smoking status, drinking status, hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia, the negative relationship between ADL and MDs remained statistically significant (B = -0.002, β = -0.142, t = -14.393, 95% CI = -0.002, -0.001, p = 0.000). The application of machine learning models further confirmed the predictive accuracy of ADL for MDs, with area under the curve (AUC) values as follows: SVM-AUC = 0.69, DT-AUC = 0.715, LR-AUC = 0.7. Comparative analysis of machine learning outcomes with and without the BI underscored the BI's role in enhancing predictive abilities, with the DT model demonstrating superior performance. Conclusion This study establishes a robust negative correlation between ADL and MDs through comprehensive statistical analysis and machine learning algorithms. The results validate ADL as a promising diagnostic indicator for MDs, with enhanced predictive accuracy when coupled with the Barthel Index. Lower levels of ADL are associated with an increased likelihood of developing memory-related diseases, underscoring the clinical relevance of ADL assessment in early disease detection.

Abstract
Purpose Thyroid hormones sensitivity is a newly proposed clinical entity closely related with metabolic health. Prior studies have reported the cross-sectional relationship between thyroid hormones sensitivity and diabetes; however, the longitudinal association is unclear to date. We aimed to explore the relationship between impaired thyroid hormone sensitivity at baseline and diabetes onset using a cohort design. Methods This study enrolled 7283 euthyroid participants at the first visit between 2008 and 2009, and then annually followed until diabetes onset or 2019. Thyrotropin (TSH), free triiodothyronine (FT3) and free thyroxine (FT4) were measured to calculate thyroid hormone sensitivity by thyroid feedback quantile-based index (TFQI), Chinese-referenced parametric thyroid feedback quantile-based index (PTFQI), thyrotropin index (TSHI), thyrotroph thyroxine resistance index (TT4RI) and FT3/FT4 ratio. Cox proportional hazard model and cross-lagged panel analysis were used. Results The mean baseline age was 44.2 ± 11.9 years, including 4170 (57.3%) male. During a median follow-up of 5.2 years, 359 cases developed diabetes. There was no significant association between thyroid hormones sensitivity indices and diabetes onset, and adjusted hazard ratios per unit (95% CIs) were 0.89 (0.65-1.23) for TFQI, 0.91 (0.57-1.45) for PTFQI, 0.95 (0.70-1.29) for TSHI, 0.98 (0.70-1.01) for TT4RI and 2.12 (0.17-5.78) for FT3/FT4 ratio. Cross-lagged analysis supported the temporal association from fasting glucose to impaired thyroid hormones sensitivity indices. Conclusions Our findings could not demonstrate that thyroid hormones sensitivity status is a predictor of diabetes onset in the euthyroid population. Elevated fasting glucose (above 7.0 mmol/L) appeared to precede impaired sensitivity indices of thyroid hormones.

Abstract
Sedentary behavior is a risk factor for several diseases, and previous studies have mostly reported the effects of acute sedentary behavior on vascular endothelial function. Data on the relationship between sedentary lifestyle habits and vascular function in large sample populations are lacking. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the correlation between self-reported sedentary behavior and peripheral vascular function in a check-up population from real-world data. Methods We recruited 13,220 participants from two health management centers of general tertiary hospitals located in northern and southern China between 2017 and 2021. All participants had undergone both questionnaires and brachial artery flow-mediated dilation (FMD) measurements. Results In total, 3,205 participants with FMD ≤ 5.0% were identified to have endothelial dysfunction. In a multivariable regression model including lifestyle habits such as sedentary behavior and cardiovascular risk factors, taking leisure sedentary time <2 h/day as a reference, the risk of vascular endothelial dysfunction gradually increased with time: 2-4 h/day (OR = 1.182, 95% CI: 1.058-1.321, P = 0.003), 4-6 h/day (OR = 1.248, 95% CI: 1.100-1.414, P = 0.001) and >6 h/day (OR = 1.618, 95% CI: 1.403-1.866, P < 0.001). Conclusion Longer leisure sedentary time is associated with a higher prevalence of vascular endothelial dysfunction. These findings suggest that leisure sedentary behavior is a risk factor for the occurrence of vascular endothelial dysfunction in the Chinese check-up population.

Abstract
Endometrial carcinoma (EC) has become one of the most common gynecological malignant neoplasms in developed countries worldwide. Studies have shown that this may be closely related to the abnormal metabolism of blood lipids, which was the most significant metabolic change in the human body in this cancer. In this review, we focus on the correlation between lipid metabolism and EC and discuss the evidence that abnormal lipid metabolism promotes an increase in EC growth and metabolism, as well as the regulatory mechanism and related signaling pathways involved in this relationship. In addition, we also discussed the research progress of targeted therapies and drug treatments for EC that act on lipid metabolism, and statins are expected to become adjuvant drugs for EC in the future. This review will provide a systematic view for a better understanding of the etiological relationship between lipid metabolism and EC and further open up new therapeutic possibilities and effective treatments for EC by targeting lipid metabolism.

Abstract
Background We aimed to explore the associations of adherence to an overall healthy lifestyle with cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs) among schoolteachers in China. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional analysis among 2983 teachers (aged 39.8 ± 9.3 years, 73.8% women) in Zhejiang Province, China. A healthy lifestyle score (0-7) was constructed based on seven low-risk factors: healthy diet, noncurrent smoking, noncurrent drinking, regular exercise, normal body mass index (BMI), adequate sleep duration, and limited sedentary behavior. CMDs included self-reported hyperlipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, and stroke. Multivariable-adjusted logistic regression models were used to evaluate the associations between healthy lifestyle and CMD. Results A total of 493 (16.5%) participants had at least one CMD, with hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and diabetes being the three leading CMDs. Each point increment in a healthy lifestyle score was associated with 20% lower odds of having CMD (p-trend < 0.001). Compared with 0-3 low-risk factors, the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were 0.66 (0.50-0.88) for 4 low-risk factors and 0.51 (0.39-0.67) for 5-7 low-risk factors. We observed independent associations for normal BMI (OR = 0.50, 95% CI = 0.40-0.63), noncurrent drinking (OR = 0.53, 95% CI = 0.36-0.77), and limited sedentary behavior (OR = 0.77, 95% CI = 0.62-0.96) in relation to CMD. Healthy diet (OR = 0.75, 95% CI = 0.55-1.01) exhibited marginally significant association with CMD. Conclusions Our findings suggest that adherence to an overall healthy lifestyle is associated with lower odds of CMD among schoolteachers.

Abstract
Background Identifying individuals at high risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and implementing targeted prevention strategies might be the key to reducing the heavy disease burden in China. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence, awareness, treatment, and risk factor control among individuals with high 10-year ASCVD risk in Guangzhou, China. Methods This study included 15,165 adults (aged 18 years and older) from 138 urban and rural communities in the 2018 survey of China Chronic Disease and Risk Factors Surveillance in Guangzhou. 10-year ASCVD risk was estimated using the risk assessment models recommended in the Chinese Guideline for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease 2017. The prevalence, awareness, treatment, and risk factor control of high ASCVD risk (defined as 10-year risk ≥10%) were examined. Results Among the study population, the weighted proportion of men was 51.9%, and the mean age was 41.27 ± 0.52 years. The overall standardized prevalence of high 10-year ASCVD risk was 13.8% (95% CI, 12.4%-15.3%). The awareness rates for hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia were 48.0% (95% CI, 42.8%-53.4%), 48.3% (95% CI, 43.0%-53.7%), and 17.9% (95% CI, 14.4%-22.1%) among those with corresponding risk factors. The proportions of drug use in prevention were relatively low in primary prevention, with the rates of using BP-lowering, glucose-lowering, lipid-lowering, and aspirin being 37.7% (95% CI, 32.8%-42.8%), 41.4% (95% CI, 35.8%-47.3%), 6.7% (95% CI, 4.5%-10.0%), and 1.0% (95% CI, 0.6%-1.8%), respectively. As for risk factor control, only 29.3% (95% CI, 25.7%-33.2%), 16.8% (95% CI, 15.0%-18.6%), and 36.0% (95% CI, 31.1%-41.2%) of individuals with high ASCVD risk had ideal levels of blood pressure, LDL-C, and body weight. Conclusion The estimated prevalence of 10-year high ASCVD risk was high in Guangzhou, while the rates of treatment and risk factor control in primary prevention were still far from optimal, especially for lipid management. These findings suggested that substantial improvement in ASCVD prevention is needed in this population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dyslipidemia and inflammation are significant factors for the onset of cardiovascular diseases (CVD); however, studies regarding their interactions on the risk of CVD are scarce. This study aimed to assess the interaction of dyslipidemia and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) on CVD. METHODS This prospective cohort enrolled 4,128 adults at baseline in 2009 and followed them up until May 2022 for collecting CVD events. Cox-proportional hazard regression analysis estimated the hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of the associations of increased hs-CRP (≥ 1 mg/L) and dyslipidemia with CVD. The additive interactions were explored using the relative excess risk of interaction (RERI) and the multiplicative interactions were assessed with HRs (95% CI) while the multiplicative interactions were assessed by the HRs (95% CI) of interaction terms. RESULTS The HRs of the association between increased hs-CRP and CVD were 1.42 (95% CI: 1.14-1.79) and 1.17 (95% CI: 0.89-1.53) among subjects with normal lipid levels and subjects with dyslipidemia, respectively. Stratified analyses by hs-CRP levels showed that among participants with normal hs-CRP (< 1 mg/L), TC ≥ 240 mg/dL, LDL-C ≥ 160 mg/dL, non-HDL-C ≥ 190 mg/dL, ApoB < 0.7 g/L, and LDL/HDL-C ≥ 2.02 were associated with CVD [HRs (95%CIs): 1.75 (1.21-2.54), 2.16 (1.37-3.41), 1.95 (1.29-2.97), 1.37 (1.01-1.67), and 1.30 (1.00-1.69), all P < 0.05, respectively]. While in the population with increased hs-CRP, only ApoAI > 2.10 g/L had a significant association with CVD [HR (95% CI): 1.69 (1.14-2.51)]. Interaction analyses showed that increased hs-CRP had multiplicative and additive interactions with LDL-C ≥ 160 mg/dL and non-HDL-C ≥ 190 mg/dL on the risk of CVD [HRs (95%CIs): 0.309 (0.153-0.621), and 0.505 (0.295-0.866); RERIs (95%CIs): -1.704 (-3.430-0.021 and - 0.694 (-1.476-0.089), respectively, all P < 0.05]. CONCLUSION Overall our findings indicate negative interactions between abnormal blood lipid levels and hs-CRP on the risk of CVD. Further large-scale cohort studies with trajectories measurement of lipids and hs-CRP might verify our results as well explore the biological mechanism behind that interaction.

Validation of "Life's Essential 8" Metrics With Cardiovascular Structural Status in Children: The PROC Study in China. J Am Heart Assoc 2023; 12:e029077. Abstract
Background Life's Essential 8 (LE8) metrics for cardiovascular health (CVH) aid primordial prevention in US populations. Methods and Results We conducted a child cohort study (PROC [Beijing Child Growth and Health Cohort]) with baseline (2018-2019) and follow-up (2020-2021) assessments, enrolling disease-free 6- to 10-year-old children from 6 elementary schools in Beijing. We collected LE8-assessed components via questionnaire surveys and 3 cardiovascular structural parameters by 2-dimensional M-mode echocardiography: left ventricular mass (LVM), LVM index, and carotid intima-media thickness. Compared with 1914 participants (mean age, 6.6 years) at baseline, we saw lower mean CVH scores at follow-up (n=1789; 8.5 years). Among LE8 components, diet presented the lowest perfect-score prevalence (5.1%). Only 18.6% of participants had physical activity ≥420 min/wk, 55.9% had nicotine exposure, and 25.2% had abnormal sleep duration. Prevalence of overweight/obesity was 26.8% at baseline and 38.2% at follow-up. We noted optimal blood lipid scores in 30.7%, while 12.9% of children had abnormal fasting glucose. Normal BP was 71.6% at baseline and 60.3% at follow-up. LVM (g), LVM index (g/m2.7), and carotid intima-media thickness (mm) were significantly lower in children with high (56.8, 33.2, 0.35) or moderate CVH scores (60.6, 34.6, 0.36), compared with children with low CVH scores (67.9, 37.1, 0.37). Adjusting for age/sex, LVM (β=11.8 [95% CI, 3.5-20.0]; P=0.005), LVM index (β=4.4 [95% CI, 0.5-8.3]; P=0.027), and carotid intima-media thickness (β=0.016 [95% CI, 0.002-0.030]; P=0.028) were higher in the low-CVH group. Conclusions CVH scores were suboptimal, declining with age. LE8 metrics indicated worse CVH in children with abnormal cardiovascular structural measurements, suggesting the validity of LE8 in assessing child CVH. Abstract
BACKGROUND Time-location information (time spent on commuting, indoors and outdoors around residential and work places and physical activity) and infiltrated outdoor pollution was less considered estimating individual exposure to ambient air pollution. Studies investigating the association between individual exposure to particulate matter (PM) with aerodynamic diameter < 10 μm (PM10) and < 2.5 μm (PM2.5) and carotid atherosclerosis presented inconsistent results. Moreover, combined effect of pollutants on carotid atherosclerosis was not fully explored. We aimed to investigate the association between long-term individual time-weighted average exposure to PM2.5 and PM10 and the risk of carotid atherosclerosis, and further explore the overall effect of co-exposure to pollutants on carotid atherosclerosis. METHODS The study population included 3069 participants derived from the Beijing Health Management Cohort (BHMC) study. Daily concentration of ambient air pollutants was estimated by land-use regression model at both residential and work addresses, and one- and two-year time-weighted average individual exposure was calculated by further considering personal activity pattern and infiltration of ambient air pollution indoors. We explored the association of PM2.5 and PM10 with carotid atherosclerosis and pooled the overall effect of co-exposure to ambient air pollutants by quantile g-computation. RESULTS A significant association between time-weighted average exposure to PM2.5 and PM10 and carotid atherosclerosis was observed. Per interquartile range increase in two-year exposure to PM2.5 (Hazard ratio (HR): 1.322, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.219-1.434) and PM10 (HR:1.213, 95% CI: 1.116-1.319) showed the strongest association with carotid atherosclerosis, respectively. Individuals in higher quartiles of pollutants were at higher risk for carotid atherosclerosis compared with those in the lowest quartile group. Concentration response functions documented the nearly linear and nonlinear relationship and interpreted the upward trends of the risk for carotid atherosclerosis with increasing level of pollutant concentrations. Moreover, effect estimates for the mixture of pollutants and carotid atherosclerosis were larger than any of the individual pollutants (HR (95% CI) was 1.510 (1.338-1.704) and 1.613 (1.428-1.822) per quartile increase for one-year and two-year time-weighted average exposure, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Individual time-weighted average exposure to PM2.5 and PM10 was associated with carotid atherosclerosis. Co-exposure to ambient air pollution was also positively associated with carotid atherosclerosis.

Abstract
Background Elevated serum total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels are established risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, a leading cause of death in China, especially in aged population. We sought to assess the latest levels of serum lipids, prevalence of dyslipidemia and achievement of LDL-C lowering targets among Chinese aged population. Methods The data was obtained from the annual health check and medical records in primary community health institutions of Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, Southern China. A sample of approximately 135,000 participants provides comprehensive estimates of the status of cholesterol level and statins use in older adults in China. Clinical characteristics were compared by different age grades, genders and years. Independent risk factors associated with statin use were determined by stepwise logistic regression analysis. Results The mean levels of TC, HDL-C, LDL-C, TG were 5.39, 1.45, 3.10, and 1.60 mmol/L, respectively, while the prevalence of high TC, high TG, high LDL-C, and low HDL-C were 21.99, 15.52, 13.26, and 11.92%, respectively. Although statin use showed an increasing trend in both participants > 75 years and ≤75 years of age, the achievement of treatment goals fluctuated between 40.94 and 48.47%, and even seemed to have a downward trend. Stepwise multiple logistic regression analysis further indicated that age, medical insurance, ability of self-care, hypertension, stroke, CAD, and high LDL-C were shown to be associated with statins use (P < 0.05). Those aged ≤75 years old seemed to be less likely to use statin, and those without medical insurance or ability of self-care seemed to be less likely to use statin, too. Patients with hypertension, stroke, CAD and high LDL-C were more inclined to use statins. Conclusion Chinese aged population currently experienced high serum lipid levels and prevalence of dyslipidemia. Although an increasing trend was shown in the proportion of high CVD risk and statin use, the achievement of treatment goals seemed to have a downward trend. Improvement of lipid management is necessary in order to reduce the burden of ASCVD in China.

Abstract
Background Epidemiological characteristics of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in Chongqing, a west-central city of China, remain unclear. The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence of NAFLD and the related risk factors among healthy adults for physical examination in Chongqing. Methods A total of 110,626 subjects were enrolled in the present study. Each of the participants underwent physical examination, laboratory measurements, and abdominal ultrasonography. The chi-square test was employed to compare differences in the NAFLD prevalence, and logistic regression analysis was used to estimate the odds ratio for risk factors of NAFLD. Results The prevalence of NAFLD in individuals in the population of Chongqing was 28.5%, and the prevalence in men (38.1%) was significantly higher than that in women (13.6%) (OR = 2.44; 95% CI: 2.31-2.58). NAFLD was more common in men aged 51-60 years and women over 60 years. Approximately 79.1% of the people with obesity and 52.1% of the people with central obesity had NAFLD. The prevalence of NAFLD in people with hypertension and cholelithiasis was 48.9 and 38.4%, respectively. Logistic regression showed that gender, age, body max index (BMI), central obesity, hypertension, impaired fasting glucose/diabetes mellitus (DM), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), hyperuricemia (HUA), alanine transaminase (ALT), and cholelithiasis were independently associated with the presence of NAFLD. Conclusion The prevalence of NAFLD among healthy adults in Chongqing was high. To improve the prevention and management of NAFLD, special attention should be paid to the factors associated with the presence of NAFLD, including higher BMI, higher waist circumference, higher blood glucose, hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia, hyperuricemia, cholelithiasis, and elevated ALT.

Abstract
BackgroundThis study aimed to investigate the associations between multiple glycolipid biomarkers and the risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).MethodsParticipants (10,286) aged from 35 to 74 years old were included in this cross-sectional study from the baseline survey of the Guangzhou Heart Study. OSA was ascertained using both Berlin Questionnaire and STOP-BANG Questionnaire. Fasting blood samples were collected from each participant; fasting blood glucose (FBG) and serum concentrations of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-CH), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-CH), total cholesterol (TC), and triglyceride (TG) were determined. Odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated using the multivariate logistic regression model after adjustment for covariates.ResultsOf the participants included, 15.56% were categorized into the pre-OSA group, and 8.22% into the OSA group. When comparing the highest with the lowest quartiles, HDL-HC was associated with a 22% (OR: 0.78, 95% CI: 0.65–0.94) and 41% (OR: 0.59, 95% CI: 0.45–0.78) reduced risk of pre-OSA and OSA, triglyceride was associated with a 32% (OR 1.32, 95% CI 1.08–1.60) and a 56% (OR 1.56, 95% CI 1.18–2.07) increased risk of pre-OSA and OSA, and FBG was associated with a 1.37-fold (95% CI 1.13–1.67) risk of pre-OSA and 1.38-fold (95% CI 1.03–1.85) risk of OSA. A significant exposure-response trend was observed for HDL-HC, TG, and FBG with both OSA and Pre-OSA (all p < 0.05). No significant association of LDL-CH and TC with the risk of both pre-OSA and OSA was observed.ConclusionThe findings suggest that serum HDL-CH was inversely associated with OSA risk, while elevated serum TG and FBG could increase the risk of OSA. Healthy glycolipid metabolism warrants more attention in the field of OSA prevention.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We aimed to characterize the relationship of a combination of circulating non-high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (non-HDL-C) concentration and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) with cardiovascular disease (CVD). METHODS We performed a prospective cohort study of the residents of the Kailuan community, with data from a total of 45,051 participants being included in the final analysis. The participants were allocated to four groups according to their non-HDL-C and baPWV status, each of which was categorized as high or normal. Cox proportional hazards models were used to explore the relationships of non-HDL-C and baPWV, individually and in combination, with the incidence of CVD. RESULTS During the 5.04-year follow-up period, 830 participants developed CVD. Compared with the Normal non-HDL-C group independently, the multivariable adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for CVD in the High non-HDL-C was 1.25 (1.08-1.46). Compared with the Normal baPWV group independently, the HRs and 95% CIs for CVD in the High baPWV was 1.51 (1.29-1.76). In addition, compared with the Normal both non-HDL-C and baPWV group, the HRs and 95% CIs for CVD in the High non-HDL-C and normal baPWV, Normal non-HDL-C and high baPWV, and High both non-HDL-C and baPWV groups were 1.40 (1.07-1.82), 1.56 (1.30-1.88), and 1.89 (1.53-2.35), respectively. CONCLUSION High non-HDL-C concentration and high baPWV are independently associated with a higher risk of CVD, and individuals with high both non-HDL-C and baPWV are at a still higher risk of CVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lipid metabolism is associated with glucose metabolism, but whether there are variations between sexes in risk factors and prevalence of abnormal lipid metabolism in major depressive disorder (MDD) patients with glucose metabolism abnormalities remains ambiguous. In the present study, the frequency and risk factors of dyslipidemia in first-episode and drug-naïve (FEDN) MDD patients with dysglycemia were examined according to sex. METHODS One thousand seven hundred and eighteen FEDN MDD patients were recruited and their demographic data, clinical data, various biochemical indicators and scale assessment scores including 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD-17), 14-item Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA-14), and positive subscale of the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) were collected. RESULTS The prevalence of abnormal lipid metabolism in both male and female MDD patients with abnormal glucose metabolism was higher than that in patients without abnormal glucose metabolism. Among male MDD patients with abnormal glucose metabolism, TC was positively correlated with HAMD score, TSH and TgAb levels, but negatively correlated with PANSS positive subscale scores. LDL-C was positively correlated with TSH and BMI, but negatively correlated with PANSS positive subscale scores. HDL-C was negatively correlated with TSH levels. Among females, TC was positively correlated with HAMD score, TSH, and BMI, but negatively correlated with PANSS positive subscale score. LDL-C was positively correlated with HADM score and negatively correlated with FT3 level. HDL-C was negatively correlated with TSH and BMI levels. CONCLUSION There are sex differences in the correlated factors of lipid markers in MDD patients with impaired glucose.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Abnormal lipid metabolism in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) has received increasing attention. The coexistence of MDD and abnormal thyroid function has been intensively studied. Moreover, thyroid function is closely related to lipid metabolism. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between thyroid function and abnormal lipid metabolism in young patients with first-episode and drug naïve (FEDN) MDD. METHODS A total of 1,251 outpatients aged 18-44 years with FEDN MDD were enrolled. Demographic data were collected, and lipid and thyroid function levels were measured, including total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free triiodothyronine (FT3), free tetraiodothyronine (FT4), anti-thyroglobulin antibody (TG-Ab), and anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPO-Ab). The Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA), and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) positive subscale were also assessed for each patient. RESULTS Compared with young MDD patients without comorbid lipid metabolism abnormalities, patients with comorbid lipid metabolism abnormalities had higher body mass index (BMI) values, HAMD score, HAMA score, PANSS positive subscale score, TSH levels, TG-Ab levels, and TPO-Ab levels. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that TSH level, HAMD score and BMI were risk factors for abnormal lipid metabolism. TSH levels were an independent risk factor for abnormal lipid metabolism in young MDD patients. Stepwise multiple linear regression showed that both TC and LDL-C levels were positively correlated with TSH levels, HAMD and PANSS positive subscale scores, respectively. HDL-C levels were negatively correlated with TSH levels. TG levels were positively correlated with TSH and TG-Ab levels and HAMD score. DISCUSSION Our results show that thyroid function parameters, especially TSH levels, are implicated in abnormal lipid metabolism in young patients with FEDN MDD.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
C1q/TNF-related protein 9 (CTRP9) and adiponectin (APN) have beneficial metabolic regulatory and vasoprotective effects. This study explored alteration of CTRP9 and APN multimers during onset of ischemic stroke and development, to provide novel clinical and experimental basis for recognition and prevention of ischemic stroke.
Methods
There were 269 patients with ischemic stroke and 182 control subjects included in this study. Serum levels of CTRP9 and APN multimers in different disease stages were measured.
Results
Serum CTRP9, total APN (tAPN), and high-molecular weight (HMW) APN decreased gradually in stage I (acute stage, within 72 h of onset) of ischemic stroke and increased during stage III (11th day to one month) and stage IV (1 month after), compared to control. In the non-hyperlipidemia group, serum CTRP9, tAPN, and HMW were decreased in ischemic stroke patients compared to control (P < 0.05). Serum CTRP9 is closely related to serum tAPN and HMW (r = 0.992, 0.991). Serum CTRP9 are protective against ischemic stroke (OR = 0.400, 95% CI 0.197–0.810, P < 0.05).
Conclusions
Lower serum CTRP9, tAPN, LMW, and HMW are significantly associated with increased ischemic stroke risk in non-hyperlipidemia subjects. CTRP9, tAPN, and HMW isoforms may be valuable clinical indicators for patients with ischemic stroke.
