Abstract
BACKGROUND Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has a chronic course. However, limited longitudinal research exists on whether adults with OCD tend to maintain the same cluster of symptoms and how those symptoms may change over time. The present study aimed to examine the stability of primary OCD symptoms across 5 years and describe how symptoms change within individuals. METHODS 107 treatment-seeking adults with primary OCD participated in a naturalistic prospective study on the course of OCD. Primary obsessions and compulsions were assessed using the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale at baseline, year 2, and year 5. Markov transition probabilities were calculated to assess the likelihood of symptom change from one of the nine primary obsession categories and seven compulsion categories to another at follow-up. RESULTS Symptom stability varied across categories. Contamination, hoarding, symmetry, and responsibility for harm obsessions were generally stable, along with hoarding, cleaning, and checking compulsions. Conversely, somatic, aggressive, religious, sexual, and miscellaneous obsessions tended to change, along with repeating, counting, and ordering/arranging compulsions. Aggressive, religious, and sexual obsessions most often switched to one of the other two categories at follow-up. Overall, OCD symptom stability decreased over longer follow-up periods. LIMITATIONS Symptom stability was only assessed between baseline and years 2 and 5. Therefore, possible changes between years 2 and 5 remain unclear. CONCLUSIONS OCD symptoms are relatively stable over time; however, specific symptoms may be more likely to vary. Future research should investigate factors underlying stable and unstable symptoms, as well as the impact of treatment on symptom stability.

Abstract
The Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale, Second Edition (Y-BOCS-II) is an evidence-based clinician-rated measure for assessing the presence and severity of obsessive-compulsive symptoms. The Spanish version of the Y-BOCS-II has not yet been validated. The present study examines the psychometric properties of the Spanish Y-BOCS-II (Spanish-Y-BOCS-II) in adults with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) who are of Hispanic/Latino ancestry. The Spanish-Y-BOCS-II was administered to 1805 adults with OCD. Participants also completed a battery of measures assessing OCD, depression, and anxiety symptoms. The internal consistency for the Symptom Checklist (Kuder-Richardson-20=0.92), Obsession Severity (α=0.87), Compulsion Severity (α=0.86), and Total Severity (α=0.92) were high. The inter-rater reliability for the Severity Scale (intraclass correlations=0.98) was excellent. Confirmatory factor analyses showed a marginally acceptable fit with the Obsessions and Compulsions two-factor model; subsequent exploratory factor analysis revealed a one-factor solution consistent with a Total score including all items. Satisfactory construct validity was observed, supported by the strong correlations with other measures of obsessive-compulsive symptom severity and moderate correlations with measures of depression and anxiety symptoms. Overall, the Spanish-Y-BOCS-II demonstrates acceptable reliability and validity properties.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with chronic migraine (CM) associated with medication overuse headache (MOH) often exhibit concomitant psychiatric traits including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Limited data exist on the impact of migraine therapies on these traits. This study aimed to analyse the influence of onabotulinum toxin A (OBT-A) on OCD in CM + MOH patients. METHODS All CM + MOH patients attending the AOU-Marche Headache Centre and treated with OBT-A over a 9-month period were prospectively analysed. At baseline and every three months, patients completed several questionnaires, including the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised (OCI-R), to assess the presence of OCD and its subscales. RESULTS Thirty patients were enrolled. Repeated measures tests revealed a statistically significant decrease from T0 to T3 in the OCI-R score (p = 0.017) and among the different subscales, specifically the checking score (p = 0.029). The MIDAS (migraine disability assessment score) and HIT-6 (headache impact test) scores exhibited a statistically significant reduction from T0 to T3 (p < 0.0001), similar to the decrease in monthly migraine days and symptomatic medication intake. CONCLUSIONS Patients treated with OBT-A showed significant improvement in OCD, particularly in subscales assessing somatic and aggressive obsessions as well as control compulsions. Several patients transitioned from a CM + MOH condition to an episodic form without drug abuse. The potential impact of OBT-A on psychiatric symptoms warrants further consideration to improve patient management strategies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Self-guided digital treatment is effective for many people with OCD-however, little is known about when during treatment people experience significant symptom reductions. In addition, there is substantial variability in the literature regarding what factors predict treatment responding in self-guided digital treatment for OCD. There is preliminary evidence to suggest that adults with OCD may show early treatment responding (i.e., significant symptom reductions within the first month of treatment) and that this early response could be associated with better post-treatment outcomes. METHODS In a secondary analysis (n = 123), the current study examined the timing and magnitude of symptom change during self-guided digital CBT, the incidence of early response (at 4-weeks), and whether early treatment response predicted post-treatment response (at 8-weeks). These analyses were conducted for OCD symptoms (primary) and depression symptoms (secondary). RESULTS Results indicated a gradual reduction in OCD and depression symptoms across treatment. Although fewer participants experienced an early response in OCD symptoms (22%) compared to depression symptoms (45%), early response was significantly associated with an increased likelihood of post-treatment response in both symptom domains. CONCLUSIONS These findings highlight that individuals with OCD symptoms may experience reductions in different symptom types at different points during treatment and that early response may be a prognostic factor for overall treatment response in this population across outcomes.

Abstract
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a diverse mental health condition that leads to substantial impairment and currently has limited success in treatment outcomes. The aim of the current study was to examine the ratio of electroencephalographic (EEG) band power within the Autogenous-Reactive (AO-RO) taxonomy of OCD during inhibition to improve our understanding of the disorder. Inhibition was measured broadly using interference and action cancellation tasks while EEG data was recorded from 61 undergraduate students. EEG band power was computed from frontal-central electrodes Fz and Cz for theta and beta frequency bands. Event-related spectral perturbations (ERSPs) were used to measure EEG band power during inhibitory task performance to calculate the Theta/Beta ratio (TBR). The relationship between AO-RO severity and the TBR at each electrode was statistically analyzed using two hierarchical linear regressions. TBR at electrode Fz during the stop-signal task was the only significant EEG predictor of AO severity. TBR predictors were not significant for RO severity. These results suggest that AO is more strongly associated with a neural correlate of inefficient and excessive cognitive and attentional control than RO. Further research is required for determining the utility of TBR for characterizing the heterogeneity within OCD.

Abstract
Introduction Intrusive thoughts occurring independently of intention are symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD). However, they also appear in various other disorders, including substance use disorders, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and anxiety disorders, as well as in healthy individuals. Despite this, the diversity of intrusive thoughts remains largely unexplored. In this study, we aimed to (1) classify the factors causing intrusive thoughts as identified in previous research and (2) elucidate differences in the psychological states of intrusive thoughts. Methods We investigated 298 participants over 20 years old using a questionnaire that includes scales such as "obsessive-compulsive belief," "stress responses," "thought suppression," and "evaluation of intrusive thoughts." To analyze data, we applied co-clustering, a machine-learning technique, to the data obtained from the investigation. Results We identified three factors that affect the occurrence of intrusive thoughts: "Negative Evaluation of Intrusive Thoughts," "Stress Responses," and "Excessive Control of Intrusive Thoughts." Furthermore, based on the scoring patterns of these three factors, participants were classified into five subtypes characterized by their degree of OCD tendencies. Further analysis revealed that the three factors could not be explained by OCD tendencies. Additionally, it was found that the five subtypes employed different coping strategies. Discussion These findings suggest that intrusive thoughts cannot be fully explained solely by the degree of OCD tendencies, which could provide valuable insights into cognitive-behavioral support targeting the various psychological states associated with intrusive thoughts.

Abstract
This study examined laxative and substance use in adults with an eating disorder, and the association with depression, compulsions, and obsessions. A retrospective chart review of 182 women who had a formal diagnosis of an eating disorder and were receiving specialized outpatient treatment was conducted. The chart review included questionnaires completed at intake assessment, including a demographic survey with questions asking about laxative use, substance use, and the types of substances used. Adults also reported their levels of depression, obsessions and compulsions on psychometric questionnaires. Overall, 31.3% of adults with an eating disorder endorsed engagement in laxative use. Substance use was reported by 34.6% of adults with alcohol (36%) and over the counter medications (39%) being the most endorsed substances. Engagement in laxative use and substance use did not differ across the eating disorder diagnoses of anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN) or other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED). Engagement in substance use was not associated with adults' symptoms of depression, obsessions, or compulsions. Compulsions were found to be a significant predictor of engagement in laxative use. Variables associated with engagement in laxative use may help to inform the development of novel approaches for addressing these behaviors in adults with an eating disorder. More work is needed to better understand the complex interplay of these behaviors.

Abstract
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a highly heterogeneous disorder, with notable variations among cases in structural brain abnormalities. To address this heterogeneity, our study aimed to delineate OCD subtypes based on individualized gray matter morphological differences. We recruited 100 untreated, first-episode OCD patients and 106 healthy controls for structural imaging scans. Utilizing normative models of gray matter volume, we identified subtypes based on individual morphological abnormalities. Sensitivity analyses were conducted to validate the reproducibility of clustering outcomes. To gain deeper insights into the connectomic and molecular underpinnings of structural brain abnormalities in the identified subtypes, we investigated their associations with normal brain network architecture and the distribution of neurotransmitter receptors/transporters. Our findings revealed two distinct OCD subtypes exhibiting divergent patterns of structural brain abnormalities. Sensitivity analysis results confirmed the robustness of the identified subtypes. Subtype 1 displayed significantly increased gray matter volume in regions including the frontal gyrus, precuneus, insula, hippocampus, parahippocampal gyrus, amygdala, and temporal gyrus, while subtype 2 exhibited decreased gray matter volume in the frontal gyrus, precuneus, insula, superior parietal gyrus, temporal gyrus, and fusiform gyrus. When considering all patients collectively, structural brain abnormalities nullified. The identified subtypes were characterized by divergent disease epicenters. Specifically, subtype 1 showed disease epicenters in the middle frontal gyrus, while subtype 2 displayed disease epicenters in the striatum, thalamus and hippocampus. Furthermore, structural brain abnormalities in these subtypes displayed distinct associations with neurotransmitter receptors/transporters. The identified subtypes offer novel insights into nosology and the heterogeneous nature of OCD.

Abstract
Although sympathetic magic (SM) beliefs (i.e., irrational understanding of contagion transmission) are observed in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), it is unclear if such beliefs are psychological endophenotypes. Furthermore, predictors of SM beliefs in OCD remain unknown. Accordingly, the present study examined whether SM beliefs function as an endophenotype for OCD and whether perceived vulnerability to disease (PVD) contributes to SM beliefs. A sample of 30 individuals with OCD, 26 first-degree relatives, and 25 age-matched healthy controls completed self-report questionnaires and a SM task where we touched a clean pencil to a "contaminated" toilet, and rated the degree to which the pencil was contaminated. A second pencil was touched to the first pencil and was then rated. This process was continued for 12 pencils (12 degrees of removal from contagion). Results revealed no significant differences in the extent to which the three groups perceived a "chain of contagion" (i.e., contamination slopes) for the successive degrees of removal from the original contagion. However, the OCD group reported significantly less contamination reduction on the task, a group difference that was mediated by PVD. These findings suggest that although SM beliefs may not be an OCD endophenotype, such beliefs may derive from a PVD.

Abstract
The high heterogeneity observed among patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) underscores the need to identify neurophysiological OCD subtypes to facilitate personalized diagnosis and treatment. In this study, our aim was to identify potential OCD subtypes based on individualized functional connectome abnormalities. We recruited a total of 99 patients with OCD and 104 healthy controls (HCs) matched for demographic characteristics. Individualized functional connectome abnormalities were obtained using normative models of functional connectivity strength (FCS) and used as features to unveil OCD subtypes. Sensitivity analyses were conducted to assess the reproducibility and robustness of the clustering outcomes. Patients exhibited significant intersubject heterogeneity in individualized functional connectome abnormalities. Two subtypes with distinct patterns of FCS abnormalities relative to HCs were identified. Subtype 1 patients primarily exhibited significantly decreased FCS in regions including the frontal gyrus, insula, hippocampus, and precentral/postcentral gyrus, whereas subtype 2 patients demonstrated increased FCS in widespread brain regions. When all patients were combined, no significant differences were observed. Additionally, the identified subtypes showed significant differences in age of onset. Furthermore, sensitivity analyses confirmed the reproducibility of our subtyping results. In conclusion, the identified OCD subtypes shed new light on the taxonomy and neurophysiological heterogeneity of OCD.

Abstract
PURPOSE Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has an elevated prevalence among pregnant and postpartum women, with negative impacts on both mother and child. There is a need for brief, efficient screening tools for OCD in perinatal care because OCD is underrecognized. We evaluated the psychometric properties of the 4-item Obsessive Compulsive Inventory (OCI-4), and investigated it as a screening measure, in a perinatal sample. METHODS Pregnant women were assessed at 20- and 34-weeks' gestation, 6 weeks postpartum, and 6 months postpartum. Reliability was assessed via test-retest analyses, and validity was examined through correlations with established measures. Criterion-related validity and diagnostic sensitivity were also examined. RESULTS The OCI-4 demonstrated good test-retest reliability, convergent and discriminant validity, and criterion-related validity. The measure also showed moderate to high diagnostic sensitivity. A score of 3 provided the best balance of sensitivity and specificity for screening. CONCLUSION The OCI-4 is an effective screener that should be used for identifying OCD symptoms in perinatal settings. Despite the need for further study, its ease of use and quick administration make it a valuable tool for early detection and referral for assessment intervention.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Attention to the heterogeneous manifestations of obsessive-compulsive symptoms observed in clinical and nonclinical populations has motivated researchers to use tools to identify homogeneous subgroups of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) patients. The Obsessive-Compulsive Trait Core Dimensions Questionnaire (OC-TCDQ) is used to evaluate two motivational dimensions of OCD (harm avoidance (HA) and incompleteness (INC)), which has been developed in recent years based on the core dimensions model, and to classify homogeneous subgroups. This study aimed to validate the Farsi version of the OC-TCDQ in Iran. METHODS The psychometric properties of the OC-TCDQ were tested in two clinical samples (209 patients with OCD) and nonclinical samples (209 participants without OCD). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted to test the two-factor structure. The measurement invariance between the clinical and nonclinical groups was evaluated. Reliability was tested using Cronbach's alpha, split-half, and retesting (two-week intervals). Convergent and divergent validity were analysed with Pearson's correlation and the incremental validity of this scale in predicting Yale-Brown Obsession Scale (Y-BOCS) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) scores using hierarchical regression analysis. The discriminant validity of the two clinical and nonclinical groups was investigated with a t-test. RESULTS Similar to the original version, the CFA showed a good fit for the two-factor structure. The invariance of measurement between samples, good internal consistency and retest reliability, and convergent and divergent validity of this scale were confirmed. The results of hierarchical regression analysis indicated the increasing validity of this scale in predicting the Y-BOCS and BAI compared to the OBQ-44 (p < 0.05), and comparing the scores of two groups with and without OCD indicated its discriminant validity (p < 0.01). CONCLUSION These findings show that the Farsi-OC-TCDQ is a valid tool for evaluating the motivational dimensions of harm avoidance and incompleteness in Iranian individuals with and without OCD, and it allows us to compare the scores across groups.

Abstract
Objective: Despite the commonly observed co-occurrence of obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCS) and substance use in clinical populations, few researchers have examined potential mechanisms which contribute to this relationship. This study assessed the mediating role of drinking motives in the relationship between OCS, alcohol consumption, and its resulting health risks among U.S. adults. Methods: Adult participants (n = 1966; Mage = 47.72, SD = 17.91; 76.30% female; 86.10% non-Hispanic White) sourced from Research Match answered an online questionnaire containing measures related to substance use and anxiety-related symptoms. Results: As hypothesized, there was a significant positive indirect path between OCS and both alcohol consumption and risky alcohol use through coping motives. However, there were also small indirect effects of OCS through social motivations for consumption and conformity motivations for risky alcohol use. Conclusions: These results add evidence that coping motives play a role in OCS and alcohol misuse and highlights the need to also consider drinking motives related to social facilitation and conformity in those with co-occurring OCS and alcohol misuse.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The present study aimed to develop an integrated protocol by combining religious content and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and evaluate its effectiveness in controlling obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), dysfunctional beliefs, feeling guilt, scrupulosity, and thought control among Muslims in Tehran, Iran. MATERIALS AND METHODS An exploratory mixed-method research design was applied in this study. In the qualitative stage, the document analysis method was used to extract components related to ACT with religious content. Also, the content and face validity of the intervention were confirmed by experts. Subsequently, a semi-experimental, pretest-posttest, control-group design was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the adapted protocol with a 3-month follow-up. In the quantitative stage, the inclusion criteria were meeting the diagnostic criteria for OCD based on the diagnostic interview of a psychiatrist, having religious purity/impurity obsessions, not receiving minimum psychological treatment for at least one month before entering the study, religious commitment; minimum age of 18 years and maximum age of 50 years; and having at least a high school diploma. The exclusion criteria from the research were as follows: age over 50 years; educational level of less than a high school diploma; having a personality disorder; receiving other treatments, inability to participate in sessions; and being introduced by a family member. The experimental and control groups participated in 25 individual treatment sessions based on the adapted protocol and 8 conventional ACT sessions. RESULTS According to the results, the effectiveness of the religion-adapted ACT intervention on the severity of obsession and dysfunctional religious beliefs was higher in patients with OCD compared to the control group in the posttest. CONCLUSION The present study showed that adding religious components to the ACT protocol can increase its effectiveness in reducing the severity of purity/impurity obsessions compared to the conventional ACT in the Muslim Iranian population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a highly heterogeneous mental condition with a diverse symptom. Existing studies classified OCD on the basis of conventional phenomenology-based taxonomy ignoring the fact that the same subtype identified in accordance with clinical symptom may have different mechanisms and treatment responses. METHODS This research involved 50 medicine-free patients with OCD and 50 matched healthy controls (HCs). All the participants were subjected to structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Voxel-based morphometry (VBM) and amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (ALFF) were used to evaluate gray matter volume (GMV) and spontaneous neuronal activities at rest respectively. Similarity network fusion (SNF) was utilized to integrate GMVs and spontaneous neuronal activities, and heterogeneity by discriminant analysis was applied to characterise OCD subtypes. RESULTS Two OCD subtypes were identified: Subtype 1 exhibited decreased GMVs (i.e., left inferior temporal gyrus, right supplementary motor area and right lingual gyrus) and increased ALFF value (i.e., right orbitofrontal cortex), whereas subtype 2 exhibited increased GMVs (i.e., left cuneus, right precentral gyrus, left postcentral gyrus and left hippocampus) and decreased ALFF value (i.e., right caudate nucleus). Furthermore, the altered GMVs was negatively correlated with abnormal ALFF values in both subtype 1 and 2. LIMITATIONS This study requires further validation via a larger, independent dataset and should consider the potential influences of psychotropic medication on OCD patients' brain activities. CONCLUSIONS Results revealed two reproducible subtypes of OCD based on underlying multimodal neuroimaging and provided new perspectives on the classification of OCD.

Abstract
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms have different cultural images in society. Deconstructive psychology studies can contribute to understanding the dominant discourse surrounding these patients, given the prevalence of OCD. The objective of this study was to investigate the discourse of participants regarding "having/receiving a diagnosis of OCD" and the function of this discourse. The research approach was qualitative and language-based, specifically employing Lacanian Discourse Analysis (LDA) perspective. The possible questions and prompts were determined along with the research team, and seven semi-structured interviews were conducted with six participants diagnosed with OCD. The interviews explored how participants referred to their diagnosis, the language they used, and the function of this discourse. The findings revealed that participants diagnosed with OCD insistently used the term "disease" to explain their peculiar and distressing situations, referring to "medical discourse" with expressions such as "This is a disease" and "This disorder." Additionally, they often utilized "religious discourse" with the statements like "Disease has no sin" and "The sick and insane are exempt from their responsibilities." The findings of the current research indicated that when individuals with OCD "receive a name" through a recognized diagnosis, they experience a sense of recognition and validation for their OCD-related problems. Consequently, individuals diagnosed with OCD tend to find "legitimacy" for their irrational or unwanted thoughts and behaviors by taking comfort from their diagnosis. This study provides valuable insights into an understanding of patients with OCD. The findings are discussed in the context of their implications for both theoretical and applied research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a disabling disorder associated with high interference in people's lives. However, patients with OCD either do not seek help or delay seeking help. Research suggests that this could be explained by poor mental health literacy about the disorder and the associated stigma. OBJECTIVE This study aims to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effectiveness of a mental health mobile app, esTOCma, developed to improve knowledge about OCD and its treatment, increase help-seeking intention, and reduce stigmatizing attitudes and social distance associated with OCD. METHODS We used preintervention, postintervention, and 3-month follow-up assessments in this single-arm pilot intervention. Overall, 90 participants were recruited from the community using the snowball sampling method. We used esTOCma to defeat the "stigma monster" over the course of 10 missions. The participants completed the sociodemographic information and Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised at preassessment and an acceptability questionnaire at postassessment. All other measures were completed at the preassessment, postassessment, and 3-month follow-up (ie, the Spanish Mental Illness Stigma Attribution Questionnaire-27, the General Help-Seeking Questionnaire, the Social Distance Scale, and the Mental Health Literacy Questionnaire). RESULTS Of the 90 participants from the community that were assessed for eligibility, 86% (n=78) were allocated to intervention. Of these 78 participants, 79% (n=62) completed the game and answered the postintervention assessment (completer group). Overall, 69% (43/62) of the participants also completed the 3-month follow-up assessment. The participants completing the study were older (P=.003) and had a higher baseline knowledge of OCD (P=.05). The participants took an average of 13.64 (SD 10.50) days to complete the intervention, including the pre- and postassessments. The participants spent an average of 4.56 (SD 3.33) days completing the 10 missions included in the app. Each mission took a mean of between 2 (SD 3.01) and 9.35 (SD 3.06) minutes. The app was rated as useful or very useful by the vast majority of participants 90% (56/62). Moreover, 90% (56/62) of the participants reported that they had learned or learned a lot, and 98% (61/62) of the participants reported that they would recommend the app to a friend. Repeated measures ANOVA (43/62, 69%) showed that after the intervention participants showed an increased knowledge of mental health and intention to seek help as well as fewer stigmatizing attitudes and less social distance. CONCLUSIONS Preliminary data show that esTOCma is a feasible and acceptable app, and after completing its 10 missions, there is an increase in the understanding of OCD and help-seeking intention along with a decrease in the social stigma and social distance associated with OCD that lasts for at least 3 months. The results support the potential of technology-based interventions to increase the intention to seek help and reduce the stigma associated with OCD. A larger, community-controlled study is also recommended.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Although disgust proneness has been implicated in the development of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), available studies have largely employed cross-sectional designs and the prospective and potentially reciprocal association between disgust proneness and OCD symptoms remains unclear. The present study employs cross lagged panel analysis to examine the prospective and reciprocal association between disgust proneness and OCD symptoms. METHOD A community sample of adults (N = 307) completed symptom measures of disgust proneness and OCD symptoms at four time points with 1 month intervals. RESULTS The results showed that the cross-lagged paths from disgust proneness to OCD symptoms were significant (average β = 0.07, p's < 0.001) when controlling for depression. However, the paths from total OCD symptoms to disgust proneness were not significant. In contrast, the cross-lagged paths from disgust proneness to washing OCD symptoms were not significant. However, the paths from washing OCD symptoms to disgust proneness were significant (average β = 0.05, p's < 0.01) when controlling for depression. LIMITATIONS The study is limited is limited by exclusive reliance on self-report in a nonclinical sample. CONCLUSIONS The findings offer preliminary evidence suggesting that disgust proneness may be a cause and consequence of OCD depending on the nature of the symptoms. Thus, the longitudinal relation between disgust proneness and OCD may be transactional where one influences the effect of the other.

Abstract
BACKGROUND University students are generally quite active in social life. It is thought that their fear of contagion/being contagious will affect their depression, anxiety and stress levels due to the removal of restrictions and the increase in individual responsibilities. This study aims to determine the effect of fear of contagion/being contagious on depression, anxiety and stress levels of university students during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS This study, descriptive and cross-sectional. Quantitative data were collected using the Demographic Information Form, the Fear of Contagion/Transmission Scale and the Depression-Anxiety-Stress Scale. The sample included 3500 participants. Descriptive statistics were used for the presentation of the results. The STROBE checklist for cross-sectional studies was used in this study. RESULTS This study revealed that the depression, anxiety and stress levels of university students were above normal, and these results were mostly associated with females, those with a chronic disease and high fear of contagion/being contagious. CONCLUSION The findings of this study may be useful for precautionary plans to support the psychological health of university students after the COVID-19 pandemic and in the fight against possible new pandemics. Considering the findings of our study, educational programs should be planned for youth in general and university students in particular to deal with depression, anxiety, stress and fears. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE The depression, anxiety and stress levels of university students were above normal. As the fear of contamination and contagion increases, the level of depression, anxiety and stress increases. Those with chronic diseases have high levels of depression, anxiety and stress. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION Research data were collected through an online questionnaire. Data collection tools were prepared on Google Forms, and then, links were shared with student groups over social media. Students shared the link on their social platforms, allowing it to reach wider audiences.

Abstract
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a disorder characterized by obsessions and compulsions and negatively affects the functionality of individuals. OCD symptoms with romantic relationship content have been investigated in the literature for the last 10 years. OCD symptoms with romantic relationship content are divided into two types: relationship-centered and partner-focused. The aim of this systematic review was to examine the relationship between OCD symptoms with romantic relationship content and individual and relational variables. Studies in the literature were reviewed in detail in order to evaluate the results regarding the relationship between OCD symptoms in romantic relationships and individual and relational factors. In the national and international literature, no systematic review study on this subject was found. Accordingly, studies published between 2012 and 2022 in internationally accepted electronic databases using the terms "relationship obsessive compulsive disorder", "relationship centered obsessive compulsive symptoms" and "partner focused obsessive compulsive symptoms" were reviewed. As a result of the search, according to the inclusion criteria, 12 empirical studies on the relationship between OCD in romantic relationships and individual and relational variables with full-text access and written in English were analyzed. The methodological characteristics and results of the 12 included studies are presented in this systematic review study. The results of the studies suggest that symptoms related to romantic relationships negatively affect the functioning of individuals similar to OCD. When the variables associated with obsessive-compulsive symptoms in romantic relationships are analyzed in individual and relational context, they are related to many factors such as psychopathologies, attachment styles, self and relationship satisfaction. In this context, there is a need for empirical studies carried out with clinical samples, exploring the effectiveness of psychotherapy and cross-cultural studies on obsessive-compulsive symptoms related to romantic relationships.

Abstract
Purpose Mental health issues of young minds are at the threshold of all development and possibilities. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), separation anxiety disorder (SAD), and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are three of the most common mental illness affecting children and adolescents. Several studies have been conducted on approaches for recognising OCD, SAD and ADHD, but their accuracy is inadequate due to limited features and participants. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the approach using machine learning (ML) algorithms with 1474 features from Australia's nationally representative mental health survey of children and adolescents. Methods Based on the internal cross-validation (CV) score of the Tree-based Pipeline Optimization Tool (TPOTClassifier), the dataset has been examined using three of the most optimal algorithms, including Random Forest (RF), Decision Tree (DT), and Gaussian Naïve Bayes (GaussianNB). Results GaussianNB performs well in classifying OCD with 91% accuracy, 76% precision, and 96% specificity as well as in detecting SAD with 79% accuracy, 62% precision, 91% specificity. RF outperformed all other methods in identifying ADHD with 91% accuracy, 94% precision, and 99% specificity. Conclusion Using Streamlit and Python a web application was developed based on the findings of the analysis. The application will assist parents/guardians and school officials in detecting mental illnesses early in their children and adolescents using signs and symptoms to start the treatment at the earliest convenience.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Mental rituals (MR) are compulsions with no overt behavioural or motoric signs. It is presently unclear whether MR found in obsessive-compulsive disorder are associated with a distinctive clinical profile. OBJECTIVES The main objectives of this paper were to assess the prevalence and psychopathological correlates of mental rituals in a large sample of OCD patients. METHODS This exploratory case-control study compared 519 patients with versus 447 without MR in terms of sociodemographics, presence and severity of obsessive-compulsive symptoms, psychiatric comorbidities, sensory phenomena, suicidality, and insight. RESULTS Current MR were found in 51.8%, while lifetime MR were found in 55.4% of the sample. The multiple logistic regression model determined that the most relevant clinical factors independently associated with current MR in OCD patients were the absence of any sensory phenomena and the presence of lifetime suicide ideation. CONCLUSION Due to its relation to OCD clinical aspects, MR are a frequent feature among OCD patients. It also seems to be associated with a range of features that are probably relevant for treatment, especially sensory phenomena and suicidality.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Little is known about the role of childhood experiences in the development of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). However, the influence of childhood experiences on personality, behavior, and perceived stress may vary between OCD patients and healthy individuals. The objective of this study was to use network analysis to explore the relationship between childhood trauma, personality, perceived stress, and symptom dimensions, thus finding the difference between patients' and healthy people's network. METHODS 488 patients with OCD and 210 healthy volunteers were recruited. All of them were assessed with the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory - Revised (OCI-R), the Perceived Stress Scale-10, the NEO Five-Factor Inventory and the Early Trauma Inventory Self-Report Short Form. Network analysis was conducted and the centrality indices were calculated. Network comparison test was performed. RESULTS In patients' network, the Obsession and the Ordering behavior were the most important nodes among the OCI-R. The perceived stress showed the strongest strength centrality of all nodes and positive correlation with the Obsession and Neuroticism. Network comparison test results indicated a statistically significant difference between network structure, and post-hoc analysis found five edges significantly differed between patients and healthy controls, mainly on Obsession and Washing behaviors. CONCLUSIONS Emotional abuse was considered significant in both networks due to its higher strength centrality. Meanwhile, perceived stress was found to be more significant in the patient network and exhibited stronger associations with obsession. The obsessive thoughts and washing behavior were different among patients and healthy controls, which brought new understanding to the pathopsychological mechanisms of OCD.

Abstract
The categorical approach of traditional psychiatric nosology has been a forceful approach for a very long time for explaining psychological disorders which are defined by symptom based diagnostic categories. However, in recent years, the importance of the "transdiagnostic" approach which is a new classification system is increasing. The transdiagnostic approach aims to examine dimensionally the common cognitive, behavioral, interpersonal and biological processes underlying many psychopathologies away from the categorical approach that classifies psychopathologies according to observable symptoms. This approach intends to treat the disorders through the common underlying processes and risk factors, thus heterogeneous and comorbid symptoms are better addressed and diagnostic categories that may change during treatment are avoided. In this review study, the current problems in diagnosing based on classification and gaps in the field were examined, and the approach itself was proposed as a solution. RDoC (Research Domain Criteria) which is a new classification system for psychiatric disorders within the scope of the approach, has created a new structure using modern research approaches in genetics, neuroscience and behavioral sciences. In the present study, the definition and emergence of the transdiagnostic approach, obsessive compulsive disorder and RDoC in the context of transdiagnostic approach and transdiagnostic treatment are explained. This review is intended to be a resource for both basic psychopathology research and the development of treatment methods within the framework of a transdiagnostic approach.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is associated with particular cognitive processes, such as beliefs about the importance of intrusive thoughts. The present study examined the explanatory power of guilt sensitivity to OCD symptom dimensions after controlling for well-established cognitive predictors. METHODS 164 patients with OCD completed self-reported measures of OCD and depressive symptoms, obsessive beliefs, and guilt sensitivity. Bivariate correlations were examined, and latent profile analysis (LPA) was used to generate groups based on symptom severity scores. Differences in guilt sensitivity were examined across latent profiles. RESULTS Guilt sensitivity was most strongly associated with unacceptable thoughts and responsibility for harm OCD symptoms, and moderately with symmetry. After controlling for depression and obsessive beliefs, guilt sensitivity added explanatory power to the prediction of unacceptable thoughts. LPA identified 3 profiles; profile-based subgroups significantly differed from one another in terms of guilt sensitivity, depression, and obsessive beliefs. CONCLUSIONS Guilt sensitivity is relevant to various OCD symptom dimensions. Above and beyond depression and obsessive beliefs, guilt sensitivity contributed to the explanation of repugnant obsessions. Theory, research, and treatment implications are discussed.

We propose a comprehensible framework integrating normative model and non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) to quantitatively estimate the neuroanatomical heterogeneity of OCD from a dimensional perspective. T1-weighted magnetic resonance images of 98 first-episode untreated patients with OCD and matched healthy controls (HCs, n = 130) were acquired. We derived individualized differences in gray matter morphometry using normative model and parsed them into latent disease factors using NMF. Four robust disease factors were identified. Each patient expressed multiple factors and exhibited a unique factor composition. Factor compositions of patients were significantly correlated with severity of symptom, age of onset, illness duration, and exhibited sex differences, capturing sources of clinical heterogeneity. In addition, the group-level morphological differences obtained with two-sample t test could be quantitatively derived from the identified disease factors, reconciling the group-level and subject-level findings in neuroimaging studies. Finally, we uncovered two distinct subtypes with opposite morphological differences compared with HCs from factor compositions. Our findings suggest that morphological differences of individuals with OCD are the unique combination of distinct neuroanatomical patterns. The proposed framework quantitatively estimating neuroanatomical heterogeneity paves the way for precision medicine in OCD.

Abstract
Front-line nurses suffered unprecedented mental distress and severe insomnia during the COVID-19 pandemic. Present study aimed to explore the relationship between obsessive-compulsive symptoms and sleep quality and examine the potential mediating role of psychological flexibility between obsessive-compulsive symptoms and sleep quality. A total of 496 nurses from a Chinese large-scale Class 3 A Comprehensive Hospital were included in an online cross-sectional survey and completed the revised obsessive-compulsive inventory (OCI-R), Multidimensional Psychological Flexibility Inventory (MPFI) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). As predicted, obsessive-compulsive symptoms were negatively associated with psychological flexibility and sleep quality, and psychological flexibility was positively associated with sleep quality. In addition, the relationship between obsessive-compulsive symptoms and sleep quality was partially mediated by psychological flexibility, which can provide some reference for the treatment of the obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and insomnia, and lead to improvements in clinical and psychotherapy planning.

Abstract
Although much is known about how intrusive thoughts become obsessions, the factors that determine which particular thoughts do so is not. The degree to which intrusions are personally significant may be such a determinant. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is heterogeneous; thus, it is possible that contradictions of personal values may play a varying role in the development of obsessions depending on which OCD symptoms manifest and may change differentially following treatment. Archival data were examined. Patients with a diagnosis of OCD (N = 62) reported their most upsetting obsession and the degree to which it violated values both pre- and postparticipation in group cognitive-behavioral therapy for OCD. At pretreatment, contradiction ratings differed across symptom domains, such that participants with primary symptoms of obsessions/checking exhibited contradiction ratings that were significantly greater than did participants with other primary symptoms. Contradiction ratings did not change posttreatment. Implications for the conceptualization of OCD are discussed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is characterized by disturbing and unwanted thoughts as well as repetitive and time-consuming behaviors that interfere with performance. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) has shown to have beneficial effects on reducing OCD symptoms as the first line of treatment. Moreover, Virtual Reality (VR) has been a more feasible and accessible intervention for OCD in recent years. Regarding the point, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of virtual reality exposure and response prevention (VRERP) in the treatment of the OCD contamination subtype. METHODS A total number of 36 adults with OCD-contamination subtype were registered and randomly assigned to the intervention and control groups. The intervention group received a 60-min CBT including a "contaminated" virtual environment while the control group received CBT as a standardized treatment. Out of these, 29 patients completed the treatment in 12 weekly sessions. The patients completed the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS), Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Obsessive Beliefs Questionnaire-44(OBQ-44), and World Health Organization Disability Assessment Scale-2 (WHODAS-2) at week 0, week 12 and after 3 months follow-up. RESULTS Based on the results of the repeated measure analysis of variances, the total score of obsession and compulsion subscales of Y-BOCS significantly decreased as a primary outcome in the intervention group (F = 60.97, P < 0.001, partial eta squared = 0.82; F = 20.46, P < 0.001, partial eta squared = 0.61; F = 29.57, P < 0.001, partial eta squared = 0.69; respectively). The total score of BDI-II and BAI was reduced in both groups but there was no significant difference between them (BDI-II: F = 0.54, P = 0.47, partial eta squared = 0.02; BAI: F = 3.12, P = 0.06, partial eta squared = 0.19). However, there was a significant difference in the OBQ-44 (F = 16.78, P < 0.001, partial eta squared = 0.56) and the total WHODAS-2 score between the groups (F = 14.64, P < 0.001, partial eta squared = 0.53). CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated the effectiveness of VRERP in the treatment of the OCD-contamination subtype. Therefore, VRERP can be used in CBT as an alternative exposure tool. Abstract
We aimed to clarify the correlations between motor symptoms and obsessive-compulsive symptoms and between the volumes of basal ganglia components and obsessive-compulsive symptoms. We retrospectively included 14 patients with medically intractable, moderate and severe generalized dystonia. The Burke-Fahn-Marsden Dystonia Rating Scale and Maudsley Obsessional Compulsive Inventory were used to evaluate the severity of dystonia and obsessive-compulsive symptoms, respectively. Patients with generalized dystonia were divided into two groups; patients whose Maudsley Obsessional Compulsive Inventory score was lower than 13 (Group 1) and 13 or more (Group 2). Additionally, the total Maudsley Obsessional Compulsive Inventory scores in patients with dystonia were significantly higher than normal volunteers' scores (p = 0.025). Unexpectedly, Group 2 (high Maudsley Obsessional Compulsive Inventory scores) showed milder motor symptoms than Group 1 (low Maudsley Obsessional Compulsive Inventory scores) (p = 0.016). "Checking" rituals had a strong and significant negative correlation with the Burke-Fahn-Marsden Dystonia Rating Scale (ρ = - 0.71, p = 0.024) and a strong positive correlation with the volumes of both sides of the nucleus accumbens (right: ρ = 0.72, p = 0.023; left: ρ = 0.70, p = 0.034). Our results may provide insights into the pathogenesis of obsessive-compulsive disorder and dystonia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Depressive and obsessive-compulsive (OCD) symptoms often co-occur and a number of possible explanations for this co-occurrence have been explored, including shared biological and psychosocial risk factors. Network approaches have offered a novel hypothesis for the link between depression and OCD: functional inter-relationships across the symptoms of these conditions. The few network studies in this area have relied largely on item, rather than process-level constructs, and have not examined relationships dimensionally. METHODS Network analytic methods were applied to data from 463 treatment-seeking adults with OCD. Patients completed self-report measures of OCD and depression. Factor analysis was used to derive processes (i.e., nodes) to include in the network. Networks were computed, and centrality, bridge, and stability statistics examined. RESULTS Networks showed positive relations among specific OCD and depressive symptoms. Obsessions (particularly repugnant thoughts), negative affectivity, and cognitive-somatic changes (e.g., difficulty concentrating) were central to the network. Unique relations were observed between symmetry OCD symptoms and cognitive-somatic changes. No direct link between harm-related OCD symptoms and depression was observed. CONCLUSIONS Our results bring together prior findings, suggesting that both negative affective and psychomotor changes are important to consider in examining the relationship between OCD and depression. Increased consideration of heterogeneity in the content of OCD symptoms is key to improving clinical conceptualizations, particularly when considering the co-occurrence of OCD with other disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The emotion of disgust has been linked with the underlying nature of the contamination subtype of obsessive-compulsive disorder (C-OCD). Prior studies show that disgust contributes to the development of C-OCD by reinforcing avoidance strategies. Therefore, experiential avoidance (EA) may influence the effect between disgust sensitivity (DS) and C-OCD symptom severity. This study aimed to investigate the mediational role of EA between DS and C-OCD severity. METHODS A cross-sectional design was adopted with 45 patients of OCD and 45 healthy controls. Both the groups were assessed on the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory, the Disgust Scale (Revised), and Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II. Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) checklist and symptom severity scale were additionally administered to the patients with OCD. Independent t-tests, Pearson's product-moment correlation, regression analysis, and mediation analysis were used. RESULTS DS and EA were positively associated with contamination-washing symptoms and symptom severity. Regression analysis indicated that DS and EA were highly associated with contamination/washing severity scores among both the patients with C-OCD and the healthy controls. CONCLUSION The study implicates that disgust is a central emotion underlying the presentation of obsessions and compulsions, which are of contamination concerns. Further, EA has a role in the maintenance of OCD through avoidance learning; however, it may not be interacting with DS to cause OCD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an often disabling and chronic condition that is normally assessed using diagnostic interviews or lengthy self-report questionnaires. This makes routine screening in general health settings impractical, and as a result OCD is often under-(or mis-)recognized. The present study reports on the development of an ultra-brief version of the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Child Version (OCI-CV) which may be administered routinely as a screener for pediatric OCD. METHOD A total of 489 youth diagnosed with OCD, 259 non-clinical controls, and 299 youth with other disorders completed the OCI-CV and other indices of psychopathology. Using item analyses, we extracted five items and examined the measure's factor structure, sensitivity and specificity, and convergent and discriminant validity. RESULTS We extracted five items that assess different dimensions of OCD (washing, checking, ordering, obsessing, neutralizing/counting), termed the OCI-CV-5. Results revealed that the measure possesses good to excellent psychometric properties, and a cutoff off (≥2) yielded optimal sensitivity and specificity. LIMITATIONS Participants were predominantly White. In addition, more research is needed to examine the OCI-CV-5's test-retest reliability and sensitivity to treatment. CONCLUSIONS The OCI-CV-5 shows promise as an ultra-brief self-report screener for identifying OCD in youth when in-depth assessment is unfeasible.

Abstract
Exam-related unwanted intrusive thoughts (UITs) and related neutralizing behaviors are common experiences among students. The present study investigated in what ways these UITs and behaviors are analogues to clinical obsessions and compulsions. Twenty-nine students completed three ecological momentary assessment surveys per day over 7 consecutive days, assessing the severity of exam-related UITs and related neutralizing behaviors, obsessive-compulsive (OC) symptoms, anxiety, distress, urge to neutralize, depressed mood, and stress in the week immediately before an exam period. Multilevel analysis demonstrated that the severity of exam-related UITs and related neutralizing behaviors was positively associated with OC symptoms, anxiety, distress, urge to neutralize, and stress but was not related to depressed mood. During the study period, the exam-related UITs occurred on average 7 times, and the related neutralizing behaviors on average 6 times. Overall, they were experienced with mild severity, low distress, and low urge to neutralize. Findings indicate that some aspects of exam-related UITs and related neutralizing behaviors (e.g., association with distress and urge to neutralize) might be analogous to OC symptoms but not all (e.g., no relation to depressed mood). We discuss how research on obsessive-compulsive disorder could benefit from considering exam-related UITs and related behaviors.

Abstract
Many individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) also meet criteria for additional diagnoses. Among the most common co-occurring diagnoses are mood disorders-especially depression. This article focuses on the comorbidity between OCD and major depression. After discussing nature of OCD and depression, the rates and clinical impact of depression on OCD, the conceptualization, assessment, and treatment of OCD when it appears along with depression is covered in detail. The derivation and implementation of a cognitive behavioral treatment program specifically for depressed OCD patients is described and illustrated using a case example.

Abstract
Patients with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) exhibit tremendous heterogeneity in structural and functional neuroimaging aberrance. However, most previous studies just focus on group‐level aberrance of a single modality ignoring heterogeneity and multimodal features. On that account, we aimed to uncover OCD subtypes integrating structural and functional neuroimaging features with the help of a multiview learning method and examined multimodal aberrance for each subtype. Ninety‐nine first‐episode untreated patients with OCD and 104 matched healthy controls (HCs) undergoing structural and functional MRI were included in this study. Voxel‐based morphometric and amplitude of low‐frequency fluctuation (ALFF) were adopted to assess gray matter volumes (GMVs) and the spontaneous neuronal fluctuations respectively. Structural/functional distance network was obtained by calculating Euclidean distance between pairs of regional GMVs/ALFF values across patients. Similarity network fusion, one of multiview learning methods capturing shared and complementary information from multimodal data sources, was used to fuse multimodal distance networks into one fused network. Then spectral clustering was adopted to categorize patients into subtypes. As a result, two robust subtypes were identified. These two subtypes presented opposite GMV aberrance and distinct ALFF aberrance compared with HCs while shared indistinguishable clinical and demographic features. In addition, these two subtypes exhibited opposite structure–function difference correlation reflecting distinct adaptive modifications between multimodal aberrance. Altogether, these results uncover two objective subtypes with distinct multimodal aberrance and provide a new insight into taxonomy of OCD.

Abstract
Data mining is a method that is used to find data that are precise, previously uncertain, and logical values from a comprehensive set of information. Data mining is used as a tool for determining the accuracy of classifications of data obtained in the field of bioinformatics by using different algorithm approaches. In this study, the data mining method was used to classify the accuracy of different algorithms and predict the types of compulsive behavior of patients with obsessive compulsive disorder. Data collected from a total of 164 people, 70 males and 94 females, were analyzed. The age range of the people participating in the study was between 7 and 73, and the calculated mean age was 32.4. Data about sociodemographic characteristics, course of disease, treatments, family histories, obsession, and compulsion types of the participants were collected through data collection instruments. Classification algorithm methods found in WEKA software were chosen to process the data. The effect of the types of obsession on the types of compulsion was determined using regression models. The levels of success of the generated models were compared. The results of the study demonstrated the presence of a moderate positive correlation (.35) between these two variables. According to the coefficient of determination, obsession explained 11% of the variance in compulsion. These findings supported the established hypothesis that the effect of the types of obsession was effective on the types of compulsion.

Abstract
Neurobiological heterogeneity in obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is understudied leading to conflicting neuroimaging findings. Therefore, we investigated objective neuroanatomical subtypes of OCD by adopting a newly proposed method based on gray matter volumes (GMVs). GMVs were derived from T1‐weighted anatomical images of patients with OCD (n = 100) and matched healthy controls (HCs; n = 106). We first inquired whether patients with OCD presented higher interindividual variability HCs in terms of GMVs. Then, we identified distinct subtypes of OCD by adopting heterogeneity through discriminative analysis (HYDRA), where regional GMVs were treated as features. Patients with OCD presented higher interindividual variability than HCs, suggesting a high structural heterogeneity of OCD. HYDRA identified two distinct robust subtypes of OCD presenting opposite neuroanatomical aberrances compared with HCs, while sharing indistinguishable clinical and demographic features. Specifically, Subtype 1 exhibited widespread increased GMVs in cortical and subcortical regions, including the orbitofrontal gyrus, right anterior insula, bilateral hippocampus, and bilateral parahippocampus and cerebellum. Subtype 2 demonstrated overall decreased GMVs in regions such as the orbitofrontal gyrus, right anterior insula, and precuneus. When mixed together, none of patients presented significant differences compared with HCs. In addition, the total intracranial volume of Subtype 2 was significantly correlated with the total score of the Yale–Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale while that of Subtype 1 was not. These results identified two distinct neuroanatomical subtypes, providing a possible explanation for conflicting neuroimaging findings, and proposed a potential objective taxonomy contributing to precise clinical diagnosis and treatment in OCD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Published evidence about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is conflicting. Most studies suggest an increase in the severity of OCD in people with pre-existing OCD, whereas some do not. AIM Given the conflicting evidence globally and lack of data from the Arab world, we aimed to explore the impact of the pandemic on obsessive-compulsive symptoms in adults with pre-existing OCD. METHODS A telephonic questionnaire-based cross-sectional study among adults with pre-existing OCD and specifically with fear of contamination and washing compulsions being major symptom dimensions of OCD. The severity of OCD during the pandemic was compared with their pre-pandemic scores. The severity of OCD was assessed using the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (YBOCS). RESULTS Those with the duration of diagnosis of OCD of<10 years showed a statistically significant increase in the mean YBOCS score of 5.54 from pre-pandemic to during pandemic, which was significant at p = 0.006. This significance was maintained across the Compulsive and Obsessive subsets of the scale. CONCLUSION Adults with pre-existing OCD with fear of contamination reported a statistically significant increase in severity of obsessive-compulsive symptoms only if the duration of their OCD diagnosis was relatively shorter (<10 years). In the context of the conflicting evidence regarding the worsening of OCD symptoms due to the unique infection control measures of this pandemic, this study highlights the importance of the impact of the duration of the disorder and the subtype of the disorder. Such classification might help public health resources to be directed better at those most at risk and also help us understand the very nature of this disorder better.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Researchers are increasingly investigating how technology could be used to improve the efficacy of treatment for anxiety and obsessive-compulsive (OC) spectrum disorders. A broad range of technologies, disorders and therapeutic processes have been examined in the literature. This review summarizes the evidence for using technology in clinical interventions for anxiety and OC-spectrum disorders and highlights research gaps that should be addressed to improve the evidence base. METHODS A scoping review was conducted based on systematic searches of three databases. Broadly, the criteria included interventions that had integrated technology into clinical contexts to enhance treatment for anxiety and OC-spectrum disorders. All records were double-screened by two reviewers, and data were extracted on the characteristics of interventions, symptom outcomes, and implementation factors. RESULTS Searches returned 2,475 studies, of which 117 were eligible for inclusion in this review. Although almost all studies reported pre-post-symptom reductions, only one quarter of the controlled studies demonstrated additive effect of technology-based interventions in between-group analyses. We noted a trend in underreporting implementation factors. CONCLUSIONS Technology-based interventions can improve the efficacy of treatment for anxiety and OC-spectrum disorders, but there are challenges to achieving this goal. Based on a review of the included studies, we provide four specific recommendations to improve the quality and likelihood of success of future research projects. PRACTITIONER POINTS Technology-based adjuvants are unlikely to improve the efficacy of treatment for anxiety or OC-spectrum disorders based on their novelty or convenience alone. A subset of studies gives hope that specific innovations can improve treatment when targeting a therapeutic process that has been problematic. Clinicians seeking to improve the efficacy of their treatment should first define client-specific therapeutic factors (e.g., homework compliance) that could be leveraged, then apply a specific innovation to address this factor.

Abstract
AIM This study focused on women with chronic lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) who simultaneously suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) to evaluate the association between micturition abnormality and OCD. METHODS A cohort case study was conducted on 128 women with chronic LUTS who visited the academic clinic from 2012 to 2018. The participants with a history of OCD were grouped together, whereas the other group consisted of those with no psychiatric issues. Data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and also the nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis and χ2 tests. RESULTS The participants with OCD had a lower mean age (41.7 vs. 48.8 years) and longer symptom duration than the control group. Moreover, voiding phase problems were more prevalent among OCD patients (mean voiding score: 9.3 vs. 6.9). Urge urinary incontinence (UUI) was the most common type of urinary incontinence in OCD patients, and the most important urodynamic study finding was bladder outlet obstruction (45% and 17% in the OCD and control groups, respectively). Voiding disorders resulted in chronic renal failure in two patients (3.12%). It was shown that bladder outlet obstruction (odds ratio (OR) 4.43, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.53-12.78, p = 0.006] was the strongest predictor of OCD and stress urinary incontinence (OR 0.20, 95% CI 0.07-0.53, p < 0.001) was the best protector against OCD. CONCLUSION The findings revealed that chronic LUTS was related to voiding dysfunction and urodynamic abnormality in OCD patients. These disorders may be categorized as somatoform disorder that requires appropriate treatments.

Abstract
The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), first detected in December of 2019 and declared a global pandemic in March of 2020, continues to pose a serious threat to public health and safety worldwide. Many individuals report anxiety in response to this threat, and at high levels, such anxiety can result in adverse mental health outcomes and maladaptive behavioral responses that have consequences for the health of communities more broadly. Predictors of excessive anxiety in response to COVID-19 are understudied. Accordingly, the present study examined psychological factors that predict more intense COVID-19-related anxiety. 438 community members completed measures assessing COVID-19-related anxiety as well as psychological variables hypothesized to predict anxious responding to the threat of COVID-19. As expected, obsessive-compulsive symptoms related to contamination, the fear of arousal-related body sensations (i.e., anxiety sensitivity), and body vigilance each predicted more severe anxiety related to the pandemic. Obsessive-compulsive symptoms related to responsibility for causing harm also emerged as a predictor. Study limitations and implications are discussed.

Abstract
In an effort to improve patient conceptualization and targeted treatment, researchers have sought to accurately classify OCD subtypes. To date, the most common form of OCD classification has used the content of symptom topography as opposed to functional links between symptoms to categorize OCD. The aim of the current study was to explore the associations between these two forms of OCD classification. Participant topographical symptoms were self-reported using the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Child Version (OCI-CV). Clinicians assessed whether participant symptoms were motivated by harm avoidance and/or incompleteness. Structural equation modeling was employed to explore the associations between harm avoidance and incompleteness and symptom dimensions in youth with OCD. Results showed that harm avoidance was significantly associated with doubting/checking, obsessing, and neutralizing symptoms, whereas incompleteness was associated with doubting/checking, ordering, and neutralizing symptoms. Findings are consistent with child and adult literature and highlight the importance of assessing the underlying function of OC behaviors.
