Abstract
Objective Owing to persistent concerns about side effects, human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates in Japan have remained low. Pharmacists are therefore encouraged to improve vaccination rates by providing accurate information. This study evaluated the impact of educational interventions on pharmacists' knowledge and willingness to recommend the HPV vaccine. Methods This randomized double-blind trial assigned community pharmacists to an intervention or control group. The intervention group watched a video about the HPV vaccine and cervical cancer, whereas the control group watched a video about lung cancer. Assessments regarding knowledge and willingness to recommend the vaccine were conducted after obtaining consent (pre-test), immediately post-intervention (post-test 1), and 28 days post-intervention (post-test 2). Results This study randomly assigned 124 participants. A significant difference in the change in motivation to recommend HPV vaccination at 28 days post-intervention (post-test 2) was observed between the two groups (p = 0.02). A significant difference in the change in motivation was also found between the two groups immediately post-intervention (post-test 1) (p < 0.001). Knowledge about the HPV vaccine and confidence in explaining it showed significant differences at both post-test 1 and post-test 2 (p < 0.001 for both). Discussion Educational intervention significantly improved knowledge and willingness to recommend the HPV vaccine. This finding suggests that enhancing knowledge also boosts the willingness to recommend the vaccine, highlighting the potential long-term effects of educational interventions. Furthermore, our results underscore the crucial role pharmacists play in providing accurate information to the community. Conclusion Utilizing pharmacists to disseminate vaccine information is effective given their familiarity with and accessibility to community residents. Policymakers should therefore leverage pharmacists to promote vaccine recommendations. Trial registration UMIN Clinical Trials Registry Number: UMIN000050192. Registered Feb 23, 2023.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to ascertain the impact of cervical cancer education provided to women in Turkey on their knowledge, attitudes, and health beliefs. DESIGN The study was conducted in accordance with the pretest-posttest randomized controlled trial model. SAMPLE The participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental or the control groups. The study was completed with a total of 105 women, 51 of whom were in the experimental group and 54 of whom were in the control group. MEASUREMENTS The personal information form, the human papillomavirus (HPV) knowledge scale, and the health belief model scale for cervical cancer and Pap smear test were employed as data collection instruments. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 package program, and the number, percentage, independent samples t-test, and paired t-test were utilized for data analysis. RESULTS Upon completion of the training program, the mean scores of the experimental group demonstrated a statistically significant increase in knowledge related to general HPV information, HPV screening tests, general HPV vaccines, and HPV vaccine programs when compared to the control group (p < 0.001). Upon conclusion of the educational intervention, it was determined that the mean scores of cervical cancer sensitivity, caring, health motivation, Pap smear utility, and motivation of women in the experimental group exhibited an increase, while their general perception of Pap smear demonstrated a decrease (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION The findings of this study indicate that educational initiatives targeting women regarding cervical cancer have a beneficial impact on their knowledge, attitudes, and health beliefs. Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine being a safe, effective cancer prevention method, its uptake is suboptimal in the United States (U.S.). Previous research has found a variety of intervention strategies (environmental and behavioral) to increase its uptake. The purpose of the study is to systematically review the literature on interventions that promote HPV vaccination from 2015 to 2020. METHODS We updated a systematic review of interventions to promote HPV vaccine uptake globally. We ran keyword searches in six bibliographic databases. Target audience, design, level of intervention, components and outcomes were abstracted from the full-text articles in Excel databases. RESULTS Of the 79 articles, most were conducted in the U.S. (72.2%) and in clinical (40.5%) or school settings (32.9%), and were directed at a single level (76.3%) of the socio-ecological model. Related to the intervention type, most were informational (n = 25, 31.6%) or patient-targeted decision support (n = 23, 29.1%). About 24% were multi-level interventions, with 16 (88.9%) combining two levels. Twenty-seven (33.8%) reported using theory in intervention development. Of those reporting HPV vaccine outcomes, post-intervention vaccine initiation ranged from 5% to 99.2%, while series completion ranged from 6.8% to 93.0%. Facilitators to implementation were the use of patient navigators and user-friendly resources, while barriers included costs, time to implement and difficulties of integrating interventions into the organizational workflow. CONCLUSIONS There is a strong need to expand the implementation of HPV-vaccine promotion interventions beyond education alone and at a single level of intervention. Development and evaluation of effective strategies and multi-level interventions may increase the uptake of the HPV vaccine among adolescents and young adults.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates are low in young adults. Clinical decision support (CDS) in primary care may increase HPV vaccination. We tested the treatment effect of algorithm-driven, web-based, and electronic health record-linked CDS with or without shared decision-making tools (SDMT) on HPV vaccination rates compared to usual care (UC). METHODS In a clinic cluster-randomized control trial conducted in a healthcare system serving a largely rural population, we randomized 34 primary care clinic clusters (with three clinics sharing clinicians randomized together) to: CDS; CDS+SDMT; UC. The sample included young adults aged 18-26 due for HPV vaccination with a study index visit from 08/01/2018-03/15/2019 in a study clinic. Generalized linear mixed models tested differences in HPV vaccination status 12 months after index visits by study arm. RESULTS Among 10,253 patients, 6,876 (65.2%) were due for HPV vaccination, and 5,054 met study eligibility criteria. In adjusted analyses, the HPV vaccination series was completed by 12 months in 2.3% (95% CI: 1.6%-3.2%) of CDS, 1.6% (95% CI: 1.1%-2.3%) of CDS+SDMT, and 2.2% (95% CI: 1.6%-3.0%) of UC patients, and at least one HPV vaccine was received by 12 months in 13.1% (95% CI: 10.6%-16.1%) of CDS, 9.2% (95% CI: 7.3%-11.6%) of CDS+SDMT, and 11.2% (95% CI: 9.1%-13.7%) of UC patients. Differences were not significant between arms. Females, those with prior HPV vaccinations, and those seen at urban clinics had significantly higher odds of HPV vaccination in adjusted models. Abstract
BACKGROUND This study was conducted to characterize the long-term effect of mobile-based education on Chinese female freshmen and disclose the possible predictors of their willingness to get vaccinated based on the information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model. METHODS We randomly assigned 509 participants to a 7-day mobile-based educational intervention or control group and collected information about general information, health, and sexual behavior, HPV vaccination intention and action, HPV-related knowledge, cognition, and behavioral skill by an online self-administrated questionnaire at baseline, post-intervention, and at the 1-month and 3-month follow-ups. RESULTS The intervention arm showed an improvement in IMB scores after education. Despite the persistent improvement in knowledge, the improvement in their motivation and behavioral skills decreased at the 1-month and 3-month follow-ups. Participants' vaccination willingness was elevated after the baseline survey in both the intervention and control groups, while the overall appointment/vaccination rate was only 3.73% 3 months later. The intention to get vaccinated was associated with knowing HPV (adjusted OR: 2.37, 95% CI: 1.44 - 3.89), perceiving more barriers (adjusted OR: 2.16, 95% CI: 1.44 - 3.25), higher subjective norms (adjusted OR: 2.05, 95% CI: 1.26 - 3.32), and having more behavioral skills (adjusted OR: 2.95, 95% CI: 1.79 - 4.87). CONCLUSION Seven-day mobile-based education was effective to increase IMB model scores among female freshmen. However, the improvement in motivation and behavioral skills was not persistent. Information, perceived barriers, subjective norms, and behavioral skills were discovered to be influencing factors of vaccination intention. Future research with longer, more convenient, and more tailored education to the main influencing factors is warranted.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To systematically evaluate the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination intentions among female university students in China and establish a basis for improving HPV vaccination coverage. METHODS We searched CNKI, EBSCO, JSTOR, MESH or Emtree, Weipu Information Chinese Journal Service Platform, Wanfang Data, China Biomedical Literature Database, PubMed, Embase, Web for the Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library to identify peer-reviewed published research on intentions by female college students in China to receive the HPV vaccination. RESULTS A preliminary search of 408 papers resulted in the inclusion of 12 studies, all cross-sectional, of moderate or high quality, with a sample size of 12,600. The HPV vaccination intention rate among Chinese female university students was 16.67% (95% CI: 12.38% to 21.24%). The vaccination intention rates of medical students, non-medical students, and Tibetan students were 30.37% (95% CI: 28.80-34.12%), 15.53% (95% CI: 11.2-20.22%), and 14.12% (95 % CI: 10.59-18.04%), respectively. The vaccination intention rates of the participants with parental education of junior high school and below, high school, and bachelor's degree and above were 15.36% (95 % CI: 11.59 to 17.54%), 17.18% (95 % CI: 12.33% to 19.61%), and 19.81% (95 % CI: 15.61% to 22.25%), respectively. The intention rates of vaccination among residents of first-tier, second-tier, and third-tier cities were 17.64% (95% CI: 12.76-21.63%), 15.39% (95% CI: 11.74-19.82%), and 13.87% (95% CI: 9.36-15.65%), respectively. The results of the meta-analysis were relatively stable with little publication bias. CONCLUSION The intention rate of HPV vaccination among female university students in China is low and varies among different populations. There is a need to increase HPV vaccination promotion efforts to improve the intention of female university students to receive the vaccine.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This qualitative study was an integral part in the development of a multidisciplinary team-led school-based human papillomavirus vaccination health-promotion programme (MDL-SHPVP) aiming to increase HPV vaccine uptake in Hong Kong. Study findings will inform the design of the MDL-SHPVP by drawing on interview data regarding the expectations and needs of key stakeholders and potential programme users. METHODS Eight mother-daughter dyads, four secondary school teachers, two school principals, three social workers and one school nurse were interviewed. All interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim for thematic analysis. RESULTS Most participants had misconceptions about HPV and the vaccine. Alhough there was no immediate perceived need for the vaccination, most participants had favourable attitudes towards HPV inoculation and vaccines in general. Factors affecting vaccine uptake included perceptions about risk of infection, vaccine availability, and cost. Participants were largely open to suggested MDL-SHPVP components (videos, digital game, and group discussions). CONCLUSION Findings have highlighted knowledge gaps among potential users and key stakeholders and will be used to inform the design of the MDL-SHPVP to ensure that their needs and expectations are addressed. Study findings may also aid future HPV vaccine promotion efforts and boost HPV vaccine uptake among youth in the city.

Abstract
The aims of the study were (1) to explore information framing effect on the public's intention to receive the COVID-19 vaccination and (2) to understand the key factors influencing the intention of COVID-19 vaccinations in China. An online questionnaire survey was conducted to explore the influence of demographic characteristics, individual awareness, social relationship, risk disclosure, perceived vaccine efficacy, and protection duration under the assumptions of information framing. The results showed that (1) the persuasion effect under loss frame was higher than that under gain frame (B = 0.616 vs. 0.552); (2) there was no significant difference between sex, age, income, occupation, educational background and residence for the participants' intention to be vaccinated; whether family members/friends were vaccinated had a strong correlation with their vaccination intention under the gain frame; (3) the higher the understanding of COVID-19 and the compliance with government COVID-19 prevention and control measures were, the higher the vaccination intention was; (4) risk disclosure had the greatest impact on people's COVID-19 vaccination intention; (5) perceived vaccine effectiveness and duration of protection had little effect on people's intention to receive vaccination. The influence of information framing on the intention of COVID-19 vaccination is different. The publicity of relevant health information should pay attention to the influence of information framing and contents on the behavior of public vaccination, so as to enhance public health awareness and promote the vaccination of the whole population.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Vaccination with the 2-dose HPV vaccine series among adolescent girls in Uganda remains low after almost 5 years since the vaccine was included into the routine national immunization program and barriers are not well understood. OBJECTIVE We explored barriers that prevent eligible girls from initiating or completing the recommended 2-dose HPV vaccine series in Oyam District, Northern Uganda. METHODS A qualitative study was conducted in Oyam District, Northern Uganda. Forty interviews were conducted with adolescent girls, their caregivers, Village Health Team Members, health workers and school administrators involved in HPV vaccination. All interviews were audio recorded and transcribed. NVivo version 11 was used for data management and content thematic approach for analysis guided by the Social Ecological Model. RESULTS At individual level, low levels of knowledge about the vaccine, girls' frequent mobility between vaccine doses, school absenteeism and drop out, fear of injection pain and discouragement from caregivers or peers were key barriers. At the health facilities level, reported barriers included: few healthcare workers, inadequate knowledge about HPV vaccine, limited social mobilization and community engagement to promote the vaccine, limited availability of the HPV vaccine, unreliable transportation, lack of reminder strategies after the first dose of the vaccine, lack of vaccination strategy for out-of-school girls and un-friendly behaviour of some healthcare workers. Concerns about safety and efficacy of the vaccine, negative religious and cultural beliefs against vaccination, rumors and misconceptions about the vaccine, mistrust in government intentions to introduce the new vaccine targeting girls, busy schedules and the gendered nature of care work were key community level barriers. CONCLUSION Our study revealed an interplay of barriers at individual, health facility and community levels, which prevent initiation and completion of HPV vaccination among adolescent girls. Strengthening HIV vaccination programs and ensuring high uptake requires providing appropriate information to the girls plus the community, school and health facility stakeholders; addressing cold chain challenges as well as adequate training of vaccinators to enable them respond to rumors about HPV vaccination.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the awareness of College Students (CSs) of HPV vaccine in China and provide evidence-based recommendations for HPV vaccine's publicity and promotion.Methods: Web of Science, PubMed, Science of Direct, EBSCO, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wanfang Data were searched. A random effects meta-analysis was conducted to determine pooled estimates of Awareness Rate (AR) for HPV vaccine.Results: Of the 36 studies included, the estimated AR of HPV vaccine was 40.27% (95% CI: 30.86%, 50.06%) among Chinese CSs. The AR of HPV vaccine was stratified by factors as gender, major, area, city, survey time, and sampling method of the study. The pooled AR of HPV vaccine among CSs was as follows: 44.17% (95% CI: 31.65%, 57.09%) and 31.93% (95% CI: 13.25%, 54.30%) for females and males; 44.47% (95% CI: 29.90%, 59.55%) and 12.02% (95% CI: 7.69%, 17.15%) for medical-related and nonmedical majors; 44.47% (95% CI: 28.71-60.82%) and 41.16% (95% CI: 26.48-56.64%) for Eastern and Midwestern region; 48.86% (95% CI: 30.63-67.25%) and 33.19% (95% CI: 22.27-45.12%) for first-tier and second- and third-tier city; 29.67 (95% CI: 11.44-52.16%) and 38.81 (95% CI: 27.14-51.21%) for AR before and after HPV vaccine entered in China; 51.51% (95% CI: 32.21%, 70.53%) and 26.21% (95% CI: 17.41%, 36.10%) for nonrandom and random sampling.Conclusion: This review indicates that awareness of HPV vaccine among CSs remains relatively low in China compared with European countries. Our findings may provide useful information to better understand the HPV vaccine awareness status among Chinese CSs.

Abstract
Objectives Despite the safety and efficacy of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine,
many persons are still not receiving it. The purpose of this pilot project
was to evaluate the number of first doses of the 9-valent HPV (9vHPV)
vaccination administered after a pharmacist-led intervention in the Adult
Family Planning Clinic at Grady Health System (GHS), a large academic urban
medical center in Atlanta, Georgia. Methods The pilot project had 3 phases: pre-intervention (November 15, 2016, through
March 31, 2017), active intervention (November 15, 2017, through December
29, 2017), and post-intervention (December 30, 2017, through March 31,
2018). The pre-intervention phase was used as a historical control. The
active intervention phase consisted of pharmacist interventions in the
clinic and patient and health care provider education. The post-intervention
phase evaluated the durability of pharmacist-led interventions performed and
education provided during the active phase. Results Eighty-nine first-dose 9vHPV vaccines (of the 3-dose series) were
administered to young adults aged 18-26 during the project period (November
15, 2017, through March 31, 2018); none were administered during the
pre-intervention phase. Of 89 patients who received a first 9vHPV vaccine
dose, 20 patients also received a second 9vHPV vaccine dose. During the
project period, 166 doses of 9vHPV vaccine (first, second, or third doses)
were administered. Conclusion This pharmacist-led intervention led to an increase in the number of young
adult patients receiving their first dose of the 9vHPV vaccination series.
With the support of other health care providers, pharmacist-led initiatives
can expand vaccine-related health literacy and facilitate access to
immunization services.

Abstract
Background Globally, cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women with more than 85% of the burden in developing countries. In Uganda, cervical cancer has shown an increase of 1.8% per annum over the last 20 years. The availability of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine presents an opportunity to prevent cervical cancer. Understanding how the health system influences uptake of the vaccine is critical to improve it. This study aimed to assess how the health systems is influencing uptake of HPV vaccine so as to inform policy for vaccine implementation and uptake in Mbale district, Eastern Uganda. Methods We conducted a cross sectional study of 407 respondents, selected from 56 villages. Six key informant interviews were conducted with District Health Officials involved in implementation of the HPV vaccine. Quantitative data was analyzed using Stata V.13. Prevalence ratios with their confidence intervals were reported. Qualitative data was audio recorded, transcribed verbatim and analyzed using MAXQDA V.12, using the six steps of thematic analysis developed by Braun and Clarke. Results Fifty six (14%) of 407 adolescents self-reported vaccine uptake. 182 (52.3%) of 348 reported lack of awareness about the HPV vaccine as the major reason for not having received it. Receiving vaccines from outreach clinics (p = 0.02), having many options from which to receive the vaccine (p = 0.02), getting an explanation on possible side-effects (p = 0.024), and receiving the vaccine alongside other services (p = 0.024) were positively associated with uptake. Key informants reported inconsistency in vaccine supply, inadequate training on HPV vaccine, and the lack of a clear target for HPV vaccine coverage as the factors that contribute to low uptake. Conclusion We recommend training of health workers to provide adequate information on HPV vaccine, raising awareness of the vaccine in markets, schools, and radio talk shows, and communicating the target to health workers. Uptake of the HPV vaccine was lower than the Ministry of Health target of 80%. We recommend training of health workers to clearly provide adequate information on HPV vaccine, increasing awareness about the vaccine to the adolescents and increasing access for girls in and out of school.

Abstract
The purposes of this study were to develop gain-framed (benefits of performing behaviors) and loss-framed (costs of not performing behaviors) messages and to identify the effects of these messages on human papillomavirus (HPV)-related cervical cancer awareness and vaccination intention. Self-administered questionnaires and effect-size measurements were used to evaluate the effects of the framed HPV vaccination messages delivered through multimedia. The results showed that gain-framed and loss-framed messages equally improved HPV knowledge ( d = 2.147-2.112) and attitude toward HPV vaccination ( d = 0.375-0.422). The intent to receive HPV vaccinations for cervical cancer prevention was higher in the two intervention groups ( d = 0.369-0.378) in which the participants were informed that public funding for the vaccination was available. Participants who received loss-framed HPV education messages paid statistically significantly more attention to health education and expressed more concern for sexual health than participants who received gain-framed HPV education messages.

Abstract
Background Previous studies have shown that woman attending their first cervical screening or colposcopy appointment experience negative emotions, primarily anxiety and fear. With the introduction of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, it is unknown whether these emotions will have altered or whether the information needs of vaccinated women will have changed. The objective of this study is to determine the knowledge, understanding and concerns that young women have about HPV when attending colposcopy and whether their information needs are met. Methods This is a qualitative study using semi-structured interviews which were audiotaped and transcribed. Data was analysed thematically, with recruitment until data saturation was reached. Women born after 01/09/1990 and attending colposcopy as a result of abnormal cytology were eligible to join the study. Recruitment took place in an out-patient regional colposcopy clinic, Aberdeen, Scotland. Results Fifteen women were interviewed. The majority of participants had some knowledge and understanding of HPV, cervical screening and colposcopy. Knowledge about the HPV vaccine was more limited; a third of participants misunderstood the effectiveness of the vaccine believing that is provided complete protection, and were left feeling that it had failed them. Some also felt that they were “test cases” for the vaccine. Conclusion With the introduction of the HPV vaccine, the information and support needs of young women attending colposcopy are not fully met, leaving women with unanswered questions. With increasing numbers of vaccinated women entering the screening programme, it is timely to review the information available to these women.

Abstract
Objectives (1) Define parental perceptions of the Human Papillomavirus Vaccine and awareness of vaccine administration at community pharmacies (2) Describe parental intentions to have children vaccinated against HPV (3) Describe reasoning process behind parental vaccination intentions (4) Assess impact of pharmacist-led education on these perceptions and intentions. Methods This was a prospective pretest, posttest study with a convenience sample conducted at parenting groups throughout northern West Virginia in 2018. Participants, a total of 34 parents/guardians, attended an educational session regarding Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination with immediate pre/post survey. The survey asked participants about their HPV vaccination history, personal perceptions regarding the HPV vaccine, age and gender of their children, overall immunization status of the child, current intent regarding the HPV vaccine, parents' preferred resources for vaccine information, awareness of HPV vaccine availability in community pharmacies, as well as parent developed environment (rural, suburban, urban, etc.), race, age, marital status, education, and income level. Results Following intervention, intention to vaccinate according to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations increased from 35% (n=12) to 44% (n=15). The percentage of participants against vaccinating decreased from 23% (n=8) to 12% (n=4). Participants demonstrated increased awareness of HPV vaccine availability at community pharmacies, with awareness increasing from 32% (n=11) to 100% (n=34). Conclusions Pharmacist delivered education may be useful in increasing parent/legal guardian awareness of immunization services as well as intention to vaccinate their child.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous interventions in colleges to improve human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination have not been highly successful. Although barriers have been assessed in traditional colleges, less is known about vaccination barriers in community colleges. METHODS We approached students aged 18-26 years old enrolled at a community college for an in-person semi-structured qualitative interview on HPV vaccination and health, with questions guided by the Theory of Planned Behavior. Data collection took place between April 2015 and December 2015. Thematic analysis techniques were used to analyze the data. RESULTS During interviews with 19 students, 4 themes emerged, including: general vaccine attitudes, barriers to HPV vaccination, motivators to HPV vaccination, and social influences. Participants felt that vaccines were beneficial, but were concerned about side effects. They felt that getting the HPV vaccine would be inconvenient, and they did not know enough about it to decide. Most would not trust their friends' opinions, but would want to know about side effects that their vaccinated friends experienced. CONCLUSIONS Successful interventions at community colleges should include several components to increase convenience as well as utilize interactive methods to promote HPV vaccine awareness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Since most cervical cancer cases are caused by persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection, knowledge of HPV among women is essential for the prevent of cervical cancer. This study was aimed to assess knowledge among women in western China about HPV and its association with cervical cancer, and to assess their acceptance of HPV vaccination. METHODS A sample of healthy women undergoing routine physical examinations in the Health Management Center of West China Hospital, Sichuan University between January and December 2014 completed a questionnaire. RESULTS A total of 1300 questionnaires were distributed, and 1109 were completed and analyzed. Only 28.85% of respondents (n = 320) had heard of HPV; among this subgroup, only half (53.44%) knew that it causes cervical cancer, only 26 (8.13%) correctly answered all questions about HPV. Multivariate analysis showed that respondents who had heard of HPV were more likely than other respondents to have a family history of any cancer, to undergo regular Pap tests and to have completed at least secondary education. Half of all respondents (51.22%) reported that they would be willing to be vaccinated against HPV. CONCLUSION Although most women in western China lack basic knowledge about HPV, at least half are willing to take the HPV vaccine. Public health efforts to educate the public about HPV and its connection to cervical cancer should be strengthened and expanded.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite the existence of human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccines with demonstrated safety and effectiveness and funded HPV vaccination programs, coverage rates are persistently lower and cervical cancer burden higher among Canadian Indigenous peoples. Barriers and supports to HPV vaccination in Indigenous peoples have not been systematically documented, nor have interventions to increase uptake in this population. This protocol aims to appraise the literature in Canadian and global Indigenous peoples, relating to documented barriers and supports to vaccination and interventions to increase acceptability/uptake or reduce hesitancy of vaccination. Although HPV vaccination is the primary focus, we anticipate only a small number of relevant studies to emerge from the search and will, therefore, employ a broad search strategy to capture literature related to both HPV vaccination and vaccination in general in global Indigenous peoples. METHODS Eligible studies will include global Indigenous peoples and discuss barriers or supports and/or interventions to improve uptake or to reduce hesitancy, for the HPV vaccine and/or other vaccines. Primary outcomes are documented barriers or supports or interventions. All study designs meeting inclusion criteria will be considered, without restricting by language, location, or data type. We will use an a priori search strategy, comprised of key words and controlled vocabulary terms, developed in consultation with an academic librarian, and reviewed by a second academic librarian using the PRESS checklist. We will search several electronic databases from date of inception, without restrictions. A pre-defined group of global Indigenous websites will be reviewed for relevant gray literature. Bibliographic searches will be conducted for all included studies to identify relevant reviews. Data analysis will include an inductive, qualitative, thematic synthesis and a quantitative analysis of measured barriers and supports, as well as a descriptive synthesis and quantitative summary of measures for interventions. DISCUSSION To our knowledge, this study will contribute the first systematic review of documented barriers, supports, and interventions for vaccination in general and for HPV vaccination. The results of this study are expected to inform future research, policies, programs, and community-driven initiatives to enhance acceptability and uptake of HPV vaccination among Indigenous peoples. Abstract
Drawing upon health behavior change theories, the current study examined whether self-efficacy mediated relationships between social-cognitive factors (i.e., perceived risk, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, perceived severity, and cue to action) and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination intentions among college women. Unvaccinated women (N = 115) aged 18 to 25 years attending a Midwestern university completed an anonymous web-based survey assessing study variables. Correlational analyses and mediation analyses were conducted. Self-efficacy mediated relationships between two social-cognitive factors (i.e., perceived barriers to HPV vaccination-indirect effect = -.16, SE = .06, 95% confidence interval [CI] = [-.31, -.06]-and perceived risk of HPV-related conditions-indirect effect = .16, SE = .09, 95% CI = [.01, .37]) and HPV vaccination intentions but was unrelated to the other three social-cognitive factors. Based on these findings, future research should test whether increasing self-efficacy through education on risk of HPV-related conditions and reducing barriers to HPV vaccination improves vaccine uptake in college women.

Abstract
Any sexually active person has the possibility of contracting the human papillomavirus (HPV) sometime in their lifetime. HPV vaccines are effective in preventing HPV if obtained prior to viral exposure. Research on knowledge and beliefs of HPV and HPV vaccination among college students in Vietnam is significantly scarce. The purpose of this study is to examine the knowledge and beliefs about HPV among college students in Vietnam compared to college students in the US. This cross-cultural comparison will fill a void in current research on this subject. Over 900 college students (N=932: n=495 in Vietnam and n=437 in the US) participated in a self-administered survey on the knowledge and beliefs about HPV in September and October 2016. Vietnamese participants reported lower levels of knowledge and experiences with the HPV virus and vaccines (p<0.01). Additionally, Vietnamese participants also exhibited more barriers in obtaining the vaccination, as well as, HPV risk denial (p<0.01). The level of knowledge is an important predictor of barriers (p<0.01; ηp2=0.022) and risk denial (p<0.01; ηp2=0.116). On average, both Vietnamese and US participants could correctly answer less than half of the survey questions regarding HPV knowledge. Additionally, provider recommendations are potentially more important than informal connections (e.g. friends, family) to reduce barriers to HPV vaccination (p<0.01; ηp2=0.035) and denial of HPV risks (p<0.05; ηp2=0.008). The increase of knowledge about HPV prevention, including and vaccination, has the potential to be improved through provider interventions. Vietnam could take action toward promoting HPV vaccinations not only at an individual level but also at a national or local level. Further research may examine the effects of a lack of knowledge on HPV-related health outcomes.

Abstract
CONTEXT The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is a safe, effective cancer prevention method that is underutilized in the United States. Despite increased understanding of barriers to vaccination, rates remain low. Globally, developed and developing nations have achieved high rates of vaccination. OBJECTIVE Identification of effective strategies is necessary to optimize uptake of the HPV vaccine. We systematically reviewed the literature for national and international interventions that have successfully increased HPV vaccine uptake. DATA SOURCES We used a standardized protocol to search for articles published between January 1, 2006, and April 30, 2015, in 3 electronic databases: PubMed, Scopus, and Embase. STUDY SELECTION We identified interventions designed to increase HPV vaccine uptake among adolescents and young adults aged 11 to 26 years. All study designs were acceptable. Only articles that included postintervention vaccination rates were included. DATA EXTRACTION Two authors independently reviewed each article for data extraction and quality assessment. Interventions were classified according to the Community Preventive Service Task Force guide. RESULTS Results were reported according to the RE-AIM (Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, Maintenance) framework. Fifty-one articles met eligibility criteria: 2 informational interventions, 18 behavioral interventions, and 31 environmental interventions. Factors associated with HPV vaccine uptake were increased vaccine availability, decreased financial barriers, and interventions targeting both providers and patients. LIMITATIONS Lack of consistent RE-AIM metric reporting, limiting our ability to assess intervention validity and quality. CONCLUSIONS Population-based vaccination strategies that increased vaccine availability reached the greatest number of adolescents and were most successful in achieving high rates of vaccination.

Abstract
Introduction Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the most prevalent sexually transmitted disease worldwide. One of the barriers to the implementation of prevention programs against the disease is the limited knowledge possessed by most populations regarding the virus and its possible consequences. Objective The purpose of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of Brazilian college students on transmission, clinical manifestations, and diseases correlated with HPV, highlighting the poor knowledge of a very common infection. Methods A total of 194 students answered a questionnaire about transmission, clinical features and the possible consequences of persistent HPV infection. The questionnaire was self-applied under the supervision of the authors. Results The clinical manifestations of HPV infection were not clear to most students. Incorrect assumptions of the clinical manifestations of HPV infection included: bleeding (25%), pain (37%) and rashes (22%). Twelve per cent of respondents did not recognize warts as an HPV-related disease. Regarding potential consequences of persistent infection, students did not recognize a relationship between HPV and laryngeal carcinoma (80.9%), pharyngeal carcinoma (78.9%), anal carcinoma (73.2%), vulvar carcinoma (65.4%) and vaginal carcinoma (54.6%). Large portions of the population evaluated were unaware of modes of HPV transmission beyond genital contact. Conclusion Knowledge of HPV by the population evaluated in this study is partial and fragmented. Lack of knowledge may contribute to the further spread of the disease. Public health policies for education and guidance of the population should be implemented in Brazil.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate an intervention aimed at increasing human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine completion of the 3-dose series and knowledge. PARTICIPANTS Two hundred sixty-four male and female US college students 18-26 years old who were receiving HPV vaccine dose 1. METHODS Students were randomly assigned to the intervention or control group. Intervention participants received the electronic intervention (text/e-mail appointment reminders and education messages) and controls received standard-of-care. Baseline/follow-up survey data were collected. Main outcome measures included vaccine completion and knowledge. RESULTS HPV vaccine completion across groups were not significantly different for HPV dose 2 (53% vs 52%) and dose 3 (34% vs 32%). Mean knowledge score at follow-up for intervention group was significantly higher (p = .01) than at baseline. No significant differences in knowledge were found for the control group. The biggest predictor of HPV vaccine completion was female gender. CONCLUSIONS The intervention increased knowledge but not vaccine completion. More research with catch-up age populations is needed.

Abstract
Infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) is the major cause of pre-invasive and invasive lesions of the urogenital tract, resulting in morbidity and mortality worldwide. HPV-related infection is responsible for most cases of cervical cancer, a leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide. Developed countries have screening programs in place to detect precancerous lesions at early stages; in resource-limited settings however, HPV related diseases are often identified in advanced stages. This is due to limitations in the availability and roll out of effective screening programs. The relatively recent availability of the HPV vaccine has provided a new public health opportunity to decrease the incidence of HPV-related disease. The high mortality rates seen in developing countries could be reduced through effective implementation of HPV vaccination programs. Large trials have proven the efficacy of bivalent, quadrivalent vaccine and most recently 9-valent vaccine. Uptake in vaccination remains low due to multiple barriers including lack of education, lack of access, and costs. New strategies are being assessed to increase access, increase knowledge and reduce costs that may result in feasible vaccination programs worldwide. The goal of this article is to review the effectiveness and safety of the current HPV vaccines available, vaccine delivery strategies, cost effectiveness, and efforts to improve the acceptability. A literature search was conducted through PubMed using the terms “HPV vaccination, and safety, and males, and acceptability and strategies, and cost effectiveness,”focusing on articles published between 2006 and 2015. The most relevant and larger scale trials were evaluated for discussion.

Abstract
Although cognitions have predicted young adults' human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine decision-making, emotion-based theories of healthcare decision-making suggest that anticipatory emotions may be more predictive. This study examined whether anticipated regret was associated with young adults' intentions to receive the HPV vaccine above and beyond the effects of commonly studied cognitions. Unvaccinated undergraduates (N = 233) completed a survey assessing Health Belief Model (HBM) variables (i.e., perceived severity of HPV-related diseases, perceived risk of developing these diseases, and perceived benefits of HPV vaccination), anticipatory emotions (i.e., anticipated regret if one were unvaccinated and later developed genital warts or HPV-related cancer), and HPV vaccine intentions. Anticipated regret was associated with HPV vaccine intentions above and beyond the effects of HBM variables among men. Among women, neither anticipated regret nor HBM variables showed consistent associations with HPV vaccine intentions. Findings suggest that anticipatory emotions should be considered when designing interventions to increase HPV vaccination among college men.

OBJECTIVE To describe knowledge about human papillomavirus (HPV) and HPV vaccination among women ages 19 to 26 seeking a variety of services at reproductive health centers. A secondary objective was to identify common sources of HPV information. METHODS Ten reproductive health centers enrolled 365 women ages 19 to 26 in a randomized, controlled trial to determine the effect of automated reminder messages on HPV vaccine completion. Using responses from a 61-item self-administered baseline questionnaire completed before initiating the HPV vaccine, this subanalysis assessed participants' knowledge regarding HPV and the HPV vaccine. RESULTS Knowledge of HPV prevention, transmission, and disease outcomes among the study population was highly variable. The mean HPV knowledge score was 11.0 of a possible 19 (SD = 3.8). Most participants (77%) had heard of the HPV vaccine before completing the questionnaire and indicated that their primary sources of information about the vaccine were television ads (61%), health care providers (52%), and friends (45%). CONCLUSIONS Despite a relatively high awareness of the vaccine, specific knowledge regarding HPV and the HPV vaccine varied substantially and participant scores highlighted knowledge gaps among vaccine-eligible young women. Media, health care providers, and friends were identified by participants as sources of information and may influence their knowledge of HPV and the HPV vaccine.

Abstract
PURPOSE We evaluated the feasibility of a multilevel intervention to increase the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine initiation among adolescents. METHODS We used a four-arm factorial, quasi-experimental trial to assess feasibility and short-term, preliminary effectiveness of a health system-level, gender-specific postcard campaign and an in-clinic health information technology (HIT) system. Between August and November 2013, we tested the intervention among 11- to 17-year-olds without prior HPV vaccine claims in the Florida Medicaid or Children's Health Insurance Program encounters (2,773 girls and 3,350 boys) who attended or were assigned to primary care clinics in North Central Florida. RESULTS At least one postcard was deliverable to 95% of the parents. Most parents (91% boys' and 80% girls') who participated in the process evaluation survey (n = 162) reported seeking additional information about the vaccine after receiving the postcard. Only 8% (57 of 1,062) of the adolescents assigned to a HIT provider with an office visit during the study used the HIT system. When compared with arms not containing that component, HPV vaccine initiation increased with the postcard campaign (girls, odds ratio [OR] = 1.6; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.1-2.3 and boys, not significant), the HIT system (girls, OR = 1.5; 95% CI = 1.0-2.3 and boys, OR = 1.4; 95% CI = 1.0-2.0), and the combined HIT and postcard intervention (girls, OR = 2.4; 95% CI = 1.4-4.3 and boys, OR = 1.6; 95% CI = 1.0-2.5). CONCLUSIONS A system-level postcard campaign was feasible. Despite low recruitment to the in-clinic HIT system, the intervention demonstrated short-term, preliminary effectiveness similar to prior HPV vaccine interventions.

Abstract
Among caregivers of adolescent girls, awareness of human papillomavirus (HPV) is strongly associated with vaccine uptake. Little is known, however, about the predictors of HPV awareness among low-income ethnic minority groups in the U.S. The purpose of this study is to understand demographic factors associated with HPV awareness among low-income, ethnic minority mothers in Los Angeles County. We conducted a cross-sectional study of caregivers of adolescent girls through the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Office of Women's Health's hotline. The majority of the participants were foreign-born (88%), one quarter lacked a usual source of care, and one quarter lacked public or private health insurance for their daughter. We found that one in three participants had never heard of HPV or the vaccine. Mothers that were unaware of HPV were significantly more likely to conduct the interview in a language other than English and to lack health insurance for their daughters. HPV vaccine awareness was much lower in our caregiver sample (61%) than in a simultaneous national survey of caregivers (85%). The associations between lack of awareness and use of a language other than English, as well as lack of health insurance for their daughter indicate the need for HPV vaccine outreach efforts tailored to ethnic minority communities in the U.S.
