Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence of asymptomatic radiologic groin region findings in adult professional soccer players using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and examine the influence of age and limb dominance on their occurrences. DESIGN Cross-sectional trial. SETTING Soccer club medical service, private practice. PARTICIPANTS Forty-seven male professional soccer players. INTERVENTIONS Players underwent a groin presigning MRI scan with a magnetic field induction of 1.5 Tesla. Image analysis of their pubic bones was performed according to The Copenhagen Standardized MRI protocol to assess the pubic symphysis and adductor regions of players. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES The prevalence of various changes in the symphysis, pubic bone, and adjacent areas. RESULTS Fifty images of pubic bones and adjacent regions (53.2%) highlighted 1 to 4 changes, while another 44 images (46.8%) demonstrated 5 or more changes. The most frequent changes observed in the pubic bone were joint surface irregularities (100%), symphyseal sclerosis (93.6%), pubic bone swelling (56.3%), parasymphyseal high-intensity line (55.3%), fatty infiltration in bone marrow (38.3%), and adductor tendinopathy (34%). When comparing the prevalence of different changes in the dominant and nondominant limbs, no statistically significant differences were found. CONCLUSIONS In adult professional soccer players with no prior groin pain complaints in recent history (12 months), asymptomatic changes are extremely common in the pubic joint and adjacent areas, including those that are very likely to be considered the main cause of pain when investigated in soccer players with groin pain. None of these changes were associated with limb dominance.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Hip injuries in elite athletes are an increasingly recognized problem and range from chronic overuse injuries, such as adductor strains and labral tears, to acute traumatic injuries such as hip dislocations. In this article, we review common hip pathology experienced by elite athletes and sideline management of emergent hip injuries. RECENT FINDINGS Elite athletes are subject to unique physical and mental stresses and therefore must be evaluated and treated in a unique manner. Hip and groin injuries account for approximately 6% of sport injuries overall and 3-15% of all injuries in professional sports. Hip sideline emergencies were rare but can include hip dislocations, subluxations, and avulsion fractures. Hip and groin injuries represent an important subset of injuries which can greatly impact an athlete's ability to perform. Understanding the physiology and types of hip/groin injuries, which athletes are prone to injuries, the impact on recovery time, recurrence risk, and the potential need for surgery aid sports medicine physicians in decision-making.

Abstract
Groin pain syndrome (GPS) is one of the most frequent injuries in competitive sports. Stresses generated in the lower limbs by quick turns and accelerations, such as in soccer, basketball or hockey, can produce localized regions of increased forces, resulting in anatomical lesions. The differential diagnoses are numerous and comprise articular, extra-articular, muscular, tendinous and visceral clinical conditions and a correct diagnosis is crucial if treatment is to be efficient. MRI is the gold standard of diagnostic techniques, especially when an alternative pathology needs to be excluded and/or other imaging techniques such as ultrasound or radiography do not lead to a diagnosis. This paper, based on the current literature, gives a comprehensive review of the anatomy of the pubic region and of the typical MRI findings in those affected by GPS. Many clinical conditions causing GPS can be investigated by MRI within appropriate protocols. However, MRI shows limits in reliability in the investigation of inguinal and femoral hernias and therefore is not the imaging technique of choice for studying these clinical conditions.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study proposes to establish in-depth inspection of the anatomic structures involved with the pathology of athletic pubalgia in a cadaver model. METHODS Eight male fresh frozen cadavers were dissected in a layered fashion. The rectus abdominis (RA) and adductor longus (AL) tendon insertions were isolated to quantify the size of the anatomic footprint and distance from the surrounding anatomy. RESULTS The RA insertional footprint was 1.65 cm (SD, 0.18) in width by 1.02 cm (SD, 0.26) in length, and the AL insertional footprint on the underside of the pubis was 1.95 cm (SD, 0.28) in length by 1.23 cm (SD, 0.33) in width. The ilioinguinal nerve was 2.49 cm (SD, 0.36) lateral to the center of the RA footprint and 2.01 cm (SD, 0.37) lateral to the center of the AL footprint. The spermatic cord and the genitofemoral nerve were just lateral to the ilioinguinal nerve and were 2.76 cm (SD, 0.44) and 2.66 cm (SD, 0.46) from the rectus and AL footprints, respectively. CONCLUSION Surgeons should be cognizant of these anatomic relations during both initial dissection and tendon repair to optimize repair and avoid iatrogenic injury to critical structures in the anterior pelvis.

Abstract
CLINICAL/METHODICAL ISSUE Groin pain in athletes can have various causes. Radiologically, osteitis pubis and clefts with affection of the interpubic disc as well as muscle and tendon tears near the pubic bone can be clearly identified. STANDARD RADIOLOGICAL METHODS Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the imaging modality of choice, as well as single-leg stand imaging (flamingo view radiographs), and where appropriate symphysography. METHODICAL INNOVATIONS Optimized MRI sequence protocol with oblique (axial oblique) slices parallel to the linea arcuata of the iliac bone is recommended. High-resolution MRI sequences and symphysography can detect superior and secondary cleft formation. Instabilities of the pubic symphysis can be diagnosed using flamingo view radiographs. PERFORMANCE The MRI findings of osteitis pubis and clinical symptoms correlate. The presence of parasymphyseal bone marrow edema is the earliest morphological sign of acute osteitis pubis on MR imaging. Edema in the periosteal tissue and isolated muscle lesions next to the symphysis are generally associated with more severe clinical symptoms. ACHIEVEMENTS AND PRACTICAL RECOMMENDATIONS Close communication between radiologists and the referring physicians is indispensable when planning an adequate imaging protocol, and precise knowledge of the clinical symptoms in the case of clinical suspicion of osteitis pubis allows for a reliable diagnosis and provides important prognostic information.

Abstract
ABSTRACT A 37-year-old male personal trainer presented with debilitating groin pains, fever, and night sweats. Enlarged inguinal lymph nodes were noticed during physical examination, and blood tests showed elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein. 18 F-FDG PET/CT excluded lymphoma and other malignancy but showed intense FDG uptake at the pubic symphysis and cortical erosions of the pubic bones on CT. The patient was diagnosed with osteitis pubis, an inflammatory condition of the pubic symphysis commonly seen in athletes. Treatment with anti-inflammatory drugs was initiated. Within several weeks, pain decreased, and inflammatory markers normalized.

Abstract
The bony pelvis serves as the attachment site for a large number of powerful muscles and tendons that drive lower extremity movement. Organizing the pelvic tendons into groups that share a common function and anatomic location helps the radiologist systematically evaluate these structures for injury, which can be caused by repetitive stress, acute trauma, or failure of degenerated tissues. Tears of the anteromedial adductors around the pubic symphysis and anterior flexors traversing anterior to the hip principally affect younger male athletes. Tears of the lateral abductors and posterior extensors are more common in older individuals with senescent tendinosis. The deep external rotators are protected and rarely injured, although they can be impinged. Imaging of the pelvic tendons relies primarily on US and MRI; both provide high spatial and contrast resolution for soft tissues. US offers affordable point-of-care service and dynamic assessment, while MRI allows simultaneous osseous and articular evaluation and is less operator dependent. While the imaging findings of pelvic tendon injury mirror those at appendicular body sites, radiologists may be less familiar with tendon anatomy and pathologic conditions at the pelvis. The authors review pertinent anatomy and imaging considerations and illustrate common injuries affecting the pelvic tendons. Online supplemental material is available for this article. ©RSNA, 2022.

Abstract
Femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) has been associated with osteitis pubis; however, it is still unclear whether hip dysplasia is associated with osteitis pubis. This study aimed to investigate (i) the incidence of pubic bone marrow edema (BME) on magnetic resonance imaging in symptomatic patients with FAIS, borderline developmental dysplasia of the hip (BDDH) and developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) undergoing hip arthroscopic surgery with labral preservation and (ii) the demographic and radiographic factors associated with pubic BME. A total of 259 symptomatic patients undergoing hip arthroscopic surgery between July 2016 and April 2019 were retrospectively reviewed and divided into three groups: FAIS (180 patients), BDDH (29 patients) and DDH (50 patients). Diffuse changes in the pubic bone adjacent to the pubic symphysis were labeled pubic BME, and the prevalence of their occurrence was examined. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify factors involved in pubic BME, and odds ratios (ORs) for relevant factors were calculated. There was no significant difference in the prevalence of pubic BME among the three groups (20 [11.1%] of 180 FAIS patients, 6 [20.6%] of 29 BDDH patients and 7 [14%] of 50 DDH patients, P = 0.325). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that acetabular coverage was not associated with pubic BME, whereas younger age and greater alpha angle were still independent associated factors [age ≤26 years (OR, 65.7) and alpha angle ≥73.5° (OR, 4.79)]. Determining the possible association of osteitis pubis with cam impingement in dysplastic hips may provide insights toward a more accurate understanding of its pathophysiology.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the pubic bone fracture incidence and associated injury patterns in patients with core muscle injury. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ninety-three consecutive patients with core muscle injury protocol MRI showing rectus abdominis-adductor longus aponeurotic plate injuries from June 2007 through August 2017 were independently analyzed in blinded fashion by two musculoskeletal radiologists for the presence or absence of pubic bone fracture. A variety of other osseous and soft tissue injury characteristics were recorded. Pain duration prior to MRI and return to play time were taken from the clinical record. Statistical analysis included fracture incidence as well as the association of fracture with other injury characteristics, duration of pain, and return to play time. RESULTS Eighty-seven men and six women with a mean age of 34.4 years (range, 16-66 years) were included in the study cohort. Overall fracture incidence was 18.3% (17/93) including 13 fatigue fractures of the pubic body and four elevated cortical fractures/fragments. After correction for multiple comparisons, no strong association was identified with osseous or soft tissue injury characteristics, pain duration, or return to play time. CONCLUSIONS Pubic fractures-particularly fatigue fractures-are a common co-existing injury in patients with a wide range of core muscle injury patterns. The presence of fracture did not have a strong correlation with injury patterns, pain duration, or return to play time but may have implications for patient management.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Osteitis pubis (OP) is a common source of groin and extra-articular hip pain and is associated with intra-articular hip pathology. In this study, we aimed to determine the prevalence of osteitis pubis on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in non-athletic patients with cam-type femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). METHODS This retrospective cross-sectional study included 178 subjects: 90 patients with cam-type FAI diagnosed by MRI and 88 subjects used as a control group. Additionally, their MRI data were analyzed for the characteristics of osteitis pubis, with severity graded from minimal to severe on a four-point scale. RESULTS A total of 98 patients and 88 controls were studied. Seventy-two males (80%) and 18 females (20%) were the patient group, whereas 71 males (80.68%) and 17 females (19.32%) were the control group. The mean alpha angle of the patients with FAI was 65.8 ± 3.3° in the right side and 66.2 ± 3.2° in the left side, whereas in the control group, it was 47 ± 5.6° in the right side and 47.8 ± 5.2° in the left side. Alpha angle measurements were significantly higher in the patient group than the control group (p < 0.001). A statistically significant increase in the prevalence of osteitis pubis was found in patients with cam-type FAI (45.56%) compared to control subjects (5.68%) (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated that the frequency of osteitis pubis was increased in non-athletic patients with FAI syndrome. Further studies are required to determine whether these findings reflect the clinical symptoms in patients with hip pain.

Abstract
CLINICAL/METHODICAL ISSUE Osteitis pubis is one of the most common causes of chronic groin pain in many professional athletes. Symphysitis pubis with instability of the joint due to softening of the joint capsule and muscular imbalance of the corresponding muscles increases the instability of the sympyseal region, thus, resulting in a vicious cycle. STANDARD RADIOLOGICAL METHODS Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). METHODICAL INNOVATIONS Optimized MRI sequence protocol with oblique (axial oblique) layers parallel to the linea arcuata of iliac bone together with large image field for depiction of the entire pelvis and high-resolution sequences focused on the symphysis pubis. PERFORMANCE Recently, the correlation between MRI signs of osteitis pubis and long-term clinical outcome in a group of professional soccer players was examined. In particular, edema in the peri-osseous tissue and isolated muscle lesions around the symphysis at the onset of symptoms were associated with partial recovery of the athletes. Furthermore, a significant association of increased normalized signal intensity in the pubic bone on STIR (short-tau inversion recovery) sequences (corresponding presence and signal intensity of bone marrow edema) and a poor complete clinical improvement was observed. ACHIEVEMENTS An optimized MRI protocol allows the diagnosis of osteitis pubis and provides important prognostic information. PRACTICAL RECOMMENDATIONS In case of clinical suspicion on osteitis pubis, MR imaging with an optimized sequence protocol should be performed.

Abstract
Pelvic pain can result from gastrointestinal, gynecologic, urologic, neurologic, and musculoskeletal sources. This article focuses on the musculoskeletal lesions that contribute to acute and chronic pain throughout the musculoskeletal core. Armed with an understanding of musculoskeletal core anatomy and biomechanics, imagers play an integral role in the accurate diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with pain and dysfunction from pelvic sources. MR imaging is the primary imaging modality used, but focused sonographic and radiographic techniques have a role. Ultimately, radiologists can help guide patients to the most appropriate subspecialty clinicians based on the underlying source of symptoms.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Groin pain is a common complaint both in high-performance and recreational athletes. Diagnosis is based on the patient's history and physical examination. Imaging assessments are often considered to exclude other pathologies. To date there is no strong evidence to support conservative or surgical treatment options. The purpose of this study is to shed light on the more effective non-interventional rehabilitative treatments for the management of groin pain in athletes and, if possible, provide guidelines useful for clinical practice. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION The following electronic databases were searched: PubMed, Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), Scopus, Web of Science, Google and Google Scholar. Databases were investigated from January 1997 until March 2017. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS The results reported in the randomized clinical trial studies highlight that active treatment is better than passive treatment to improve clinical signs of groin pain. Comparing the active strategy with multi-modal treatment the latter allows a faster return to sport activity. Although the evidence remains poor, all the included literature highlights that an integrated strategy which combines active and passive treatment, the assessment of perceived pain, a return to running program and specific-sport exercises is an effective strategy for management of groin pain in athletes. CONCLUSIONS Although we shed some light on common key aspects able to improve the typical signs of groin pain, on the basis of available data we were unable to provide practice guidelines. Further studies are necessary to set the best treatment algorithm for the management of groin pain in athletes.

Abstract
Soccer is one of the most popular sports worldwide engaging millions of participants each year. During play, injuries occur rather frequently and most of them involve the hip joint and the surrounding structure. In professional athletes, injuries are often complex scenarios and in the case of misdiagnosis, patients' return to play is delayed or it may progress to a more serious injury with consequent damage for their career and for the soccer team. The most frequent articular pathologies are Femoro-acetabular impingement and labral tears. Stress fracture, avulsion, ischiofemoral impingement, subspine impingement, athletic pubalgia, muscle injuries and Morel-Levallèe lesion are the most frequent hip peri-articular pathologies whereas snapping hip may be both intra- or extra-articular pathology. With an increasing number of football players, the radiologist plays a crucial role in the detection and characterization of the extent of the injuries. This article reviews the current imaging concepts frequently seen in injuries around the hips of professional football players focusing in particular on the most suitable therapeutic approaches, whether surgical or conservative.

Abstract
Background Several tumour-like conditions of the soft tissues may be encountered in clinical practice, or when patients undergo radiologic examinations. Al-though advances in cross sectional imaging (ultra-sound, MDCT and MRI) play a pivotal role in the correct evaluation of tumour-like lesions, a systematic approach is needed to achieve a definitive diagnosis or limit the differential diagnosis. Clinical history, physical examination and anatomic location are of paramount importance. Methods In this pictorial essay we review some of the most frequent benign soft tissue conditions which may be mistaken for malignancy and thus lead to need-less referrals, unnecessary biopsies and great anxiety to the patients and their carers. Abstract
With increasing participation and intensity of training in youth sports in the United States, the incidence of sports-related injuries is increasing, and the types of injuries are shifting. In this article, the authors review sports injuries of the lower extremity, including both acute and overuse injuries, that are common in or specific to the pediatric population. Common traumatic injuries that occur in individuals of all ages (eg, tears of the acetabular labrum and anterior cruciate ligament) are not addressed, although these occur routinely in pediatric sports. However, some injuries that occur almost exclusively in high-level athletes (eg, athletic pubalgia) are reviewed to increase awareness and understanding of these entities among pediatric radiologists who may not be familiar with them and thus may not look for them. Injuries are described according to their location (ie, hip, knee, or foot and ankle) and pathologic process (eg, apophysitis, osteochondritis dissecans). Examples of abnormalities and normal variants of the anatomy that are often misdiagnosed are provided. The injuries reviewed represent a common and growing subset of pathologic processes about which all pediatric and musculoskeletal radiologists should be knowledgeable. Understanding physeal injury is especially important because missed diagnoses can lead to premature physeal closure and osteoarthritis. ©RSNA, 2016.

Abstract
Background: Recognition, diagnosis, and treatment of athletic pubalgia (AP), also known as sports hernia, once underrecognized and undertreated in professional football, are becoming more common. Surgery as the final treatment for sports hernia when nonsurgical treatment fails remains controversial. Given the money involved and popularity of the National Football League (NFL), it is important to understand surgical outcomes in this patient population. Hypothesis: After AP surgery, players would: (1) return to sport (RTS) at a greater than 90% rate, (2) play fewer games for fewer years than matched controls, (3) have no difference in performance compared with before AP surgery, and (4) have no difference in performance versus matched controls. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: Internet-based injury reports identified players who underwent AP surgery from January 1996 to August 2015. Demographic and performance data were collected for each player. A 1:1 matched control group and an index year analog were identified. Control and case performance scores were calculated using a standardized scoring system. Groups were compared using paired Student t tests. Results: Fifty-six NFL players (57 AP surgeries) were analyzed (mean age, 28.2 ± 3.1 years; mean years in NFL at surgery, 5.4 ± 3.2). Fifty-three players were able to RTS. Controls were in the NFL longer (P < .05) than players who underwent AP surgery (3.8 ± 2.4 vs 3.2 ± 2.1 years). Controls played more games per season (P < .05) than post-AP players (14.0 ± 2.3 vs 12.0 ± 3.4 games per season). There was no significant (P > .05) difference in pre- versus post-AP surgery performance scores and no significant (P > .05) difference in postoperative performance scores versus controls post-index. Conclusion: There was a high RTS rate after AP surgery without a significant difference in postoperative performance, though career length and games per season after AP surgery were significantly less than that of matched controls.

Abstract
CONTEXT Evaluation of groin pain in athletes may be challenging as pain is typically poorly localized and the pubic symphyseal region comprises closely approximated tendons and muscles. As such, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound (US) may help determine the etiology of groin pain. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION A PubMed search was performed using the following search terms: ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, sports hernia, athletic pubalgia, and groin pain. Date restrictions were not placed on the literature search. STUDY DESIGN Clinical review. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level 4. RESULTS MRI is sensitive in diagnosing pathology in groin pain. Not only can MRI be used to image rectus abdominis/adductor longus aponeurosis and pubic bone pathology, but it can also evaluate other pathology within the hip and pelvis. MRI is especially helpful when groin pain is poorly localized. Real-time capability makes ultrasound useful in evaluating the pubic symphyseal region, as it can be used for evaluation and treatment. CONCLUSION MRI and US are valuable in diagnosing pathology in athletes with groin pain, with the added utility of treatment using US-guided intervention. Strength-of Recommendation Taxonomy: C.

Abstract
Purpose: Our aims were to determine the feasibility of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) in the detection of bone marrow edema (BME) and explore the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) alterations in patients with osteitis pubis (OP). Materials and Methods: 42 consecutive patients clinically suspected to have athletic pubalgia and 31 control subjects were enrolled in the study. All subjects underwent diagnostic focused magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and DWI at b values of 0 and 600 s/mm2. Two radiologists reviewed the images for the presence of active OP. The presence of subchondral BME and contrast enhancement were considered to indicate active OP. ADC values were measured from public bodies of both groups. DWI results were correlated with routine MRI findings. Receiver-operating-characteristic curves were formed. Cut-off values for ADC, sensitivity and specificity values were measured. Results: 36/42 (85%) of the cases had BME/enhancement on routine MRIs and identified as active OP. ADC measurements of the patients were greater than the controls (P < 0.05). For the optimal cut-off values DWI showed sensitivity and specificity values of 97.3%, and 90.3%, for the right, and 97.1%, and 96.7% for the left side, respectively (Area under the curve 0.965 and 0.973). Intra-and inter-rater reliability for readers were substantial-perfect for all sessions. Conclusion: DWI is fast, accurate, and highly reproducible technique for the detection of BME in patients with active OP. It allows distinct bone marrow contrast without the use of gadolinium contrast, increases visual perception of active lesions, gives objective information by quantifying the diffusion coefficients, thus increase diagnostic confidence. We suggest the use of DWI as a cost-effective adjunctive tool for the diagnosis of active OP particularly in early cases and inconclusive diagnostic MRI. Future studies are necessary to determine the utility of DWI to evaluate severity of the disease and treatment response before returning athletes to play.

Abstract
Core muscle injury/sports hernia/athletic pubalgia is an increasingly recognized source of pain, disability, and time lost from athletics. Groin pain among athletes, however, may be secondary to various etiologies. A thorough history and comprehensive physical examination, coupled with appropriate diagnostic imaging, may improve the diagnostic accuracy for patients who present with core muscular injuries. Outcomes of nonoperative management have not been well delineated, and multiple operative procedures have been discussed with varying return-to-athletic activity rates. In this review, we outline the clinical entity and treatment of core muscle injury and athletic pubalgia. In addition, we describe the relationship between athletic pubalgia and femoroacetabular impingement along with recent studies that have investigated the treatment of these related disorders.

Athletic pubalgia, or "sports hernia", represents a constellation of pathologic conditions occurring at and around the pubic symphysis. These injuries are primarily seen in athletes or those involved in athletic activity. In this article, we review the sonographic appearance of the relevant complex anatomy, scanning technique for ultrasound evaluation of athletic pubalgia, and the sonographic appearances of associated pathologic conditions.

Abstract
Groin pain is common in athletes. Yet, there is disagreement on aetiology, pathomechanics and terminology. A plethora of terms have been employed to explain inguinal-related groin pain in athletes. Recently, at the British Hernia Society in Manchester 2012, a consensus was reached to use the term inguinal disruption based on the pathophysiology while lately the Doha agreement in 2014 defined it as inguinal-related groin pain, a clinically based taxonomy. This review article emphasizes the anatomy, pathogenesis, standard clinical assessment and imaging, and highlights the treatment options for inguinal disruption.

Abstract
Osteitis pubis (OP) is a debilitating overuse syndrome characterizing by pelvic pain and local tenderness over the pubic symphysis commonly encountered in athletes often involved in kicking, twisting and cutting activities in sports such as soccer and rugby and to a lesser degree distance running. It is a common source of groin pain in elite athletes attributable to pubis sympysis instability as the result of microtrauma caused by repetitive muscle strains on pubic bones. Diagnosis is based mainly on detailed sports history and a meticulous clinical examination, although occasionally is difficult to distinguish this nosological entity from other pathologies affecting the involved area which may occur concomitantly in the same patient. Radiologic examinations such as plain radiographs, magnetic resonance imaging and 3 phase bone isotope scanning may be helpful to differentiate from other clinical entities with similar clinical presentation. Most cases respond well to conservative treatment which includes several physical modalities and especially a progressive rehabilitation programmed individualized to each one of patients diagnosed with OP. Local injection therapies have been also been proposed as a non-operative therapeutic option for the efficient management of these patients. In refractory cases, surgical therapeutic strategies are warranted. These include several open or minimally invasive surgical interventions such as arthroscopic or open symphysis curettage, wedge or total resection of pubic sympysis, polypropylene mesh placement and pubic fusion. In this review a critical analysis of OP in elite athletes is performed with special focus on current concepts of diagnosis and management of this source of athletic groin pain.

Abstract
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become the standard of care imaging modality for a difficult, often misunderstood spectrum of musculoskeletal injury termed athletic pubalgia or core muscle injury. Armed with a dedicated noncontrast athletic pubalgia protocol and a late model phased array receiver coil, the musculoskeletal imager can play a great role in effective diagnosis and treatment planning for lesions, including osteitis pubis, midline pubic plate lesions, and rectus abdominis/adductor aponeurosis injury. Beyond these established patterns of MRI findings, there are many confounders and contributing pathologies about the pelvis in patients with activity related groin pain, including internal and periarticular derangements of the hip. The MRI is ideally suited to delineate the extent of expected injury and to identify the unexpected visceral and musculoskeletal lesions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND groin pain affects all types of athletes, especially soccer players. Many diseases with different etiologies may cause groin pain. PURPOSE offer a mini review of groin pain in soccer accompanied by the presentation of a case report highlighting the possible association of more clinical frameworks into the onset of groin pain syndrome, in order to recommend that clinical evaluations take into account possible associations between bone, muscle and tendon such as inguinal canal disease. CONCLUSION the multifactorial etiology of groin pain syndrome needs to be examined with a comprehensive approach, with standardized clinical evaluation based on an imaging protocol in order to evaluate all possible diseases. Abstract
In this study, we compared the isokinetic torques of hip flexors/extensors and abductors/adductors in soccer players suffering from osteitis pubis (OP), with normal soccer players. Twenty soccer male athletes with OP and 20 normal soccer athletes were included in this study. Peak torque/body weight (PT/BW) was recorded from hip flexor/extensor and abductor/adductor muscles during isokinetic concentric contraction modes at angular velocity of 2.1 rad · s(-1), for both groups. The results showed a significant difference between the normal and OP groups for hip flexors (P < 0.05). The normal group had significant, lower PT/BW value than the OP group for their hip flexors (P < 0.05). The hip flexor/extensor PT ratio of OP affected and non-affected limbs was significantly different from that of normal dominant and non-dominant limbs. There were no significant differences between the normal and OP groups for hip extensor, adductor and abductor muscles (P > 0.05). Regarding the hip adductor/abductor PT ratio, there was no significant difference between the normal and OP groups of athletes (P > 0.05). The OP group displayed increase in hip flexor strength that disturbed the hip flexor/extensor torque ratio of OP. Therefore, increasing the hip extensor strength should be part of rehabilitation programmes of patients with OP.

Abstract
Athletes frequently injure their hips and core muscles. Accurate diagnosis and proper treatment of groin pain in the athlete can be tricky, frequently posing vexing problem for trainers and physicians. Clinical presentations of the various hip problems overlap with respect to history and physical examination. This article reviews clinical presentations and magnetic resonance imaging findings specific to the various causes of groin pain in the athlete. The focus is on the core muscle injuries (athletic pubalgia or "sports hernia"). The goal is to raise awareness about the variety of injuries that occur and therapeutic options.
