This study is performed to research the biological role of KDM1A in the epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) of gastric cancer and investigate the mechanism involved.

The KDM1A, Vimentin and E-cadherin levels were studied, as well as the correlation among them in gastric cancer samples. Gastric cancer cells were transfected with KDM1A overexpression and knockdown, and the cellular infiltration, motility, morphology and F-actin expression were subsequently identified. For the protein level assessment of EMT, the western blot analysis combined with immunofluorescence was employed. The effect of KDM1A on TGF-β/Notch signaling was also detected.

KDM1A was overexpressed in gastric cancer tumor tissues. In the clinical gastric carcinoma samples, the level of KDM1A was linked negatively to the expression of E-cadherin, while positively to the expression of Vimentin. Among the gastric carcinoma population, the expression of KDM1A was linked to the lymph node metastasis, TNM stage and tumor differentiation. The KDM1A downregulation prohibited the cellular motility, infiltration and F-actin expression, and suppressed EMT process. KDM1A overexpression exhibited promoting effect on EMT in gastric cancer cells. KDM1A regulated TGF-β/Notch signaling to affect EMT in gastric cancer cells.

KDM1A acts as an oncogene and facilitates the epithelial mesenchymal transition process by regulating TGF-β/Notch signal pathway in gastric cancer cells.

Despite the rarity of appendiceal tumors, research in this field has intensified, resulting in a growing number of studies and published papers. Surprisingly, no comprehensive bibliometric analysis has specifically addressed appendiceal tumors.

To offer a thorough analysis of the current landscape and future trends in appendiceal tumor research.

In our bibliometric analysis studies, we explored the Web of Science Core Collection database. The bibliographic details of the chosen publications were automatically converted and analyzed using the bibliometric package in the R environment. Additionally, we employed VoSviewer to create cooperation network maps for countries, institutions, and authors, as well as clustering maps for keywords. Furthermore, CiteSpace, another software tool, was utilized to build dual-map overlays of journals and analyze references with citation bursts.

Our study included 780 English-language articles published after 2010. The number of related publications and citations has increased in the past decade. The United States leads in this area, but there is a need to improve cooperation and communication among countries and institutions. Co-occurrence analysis also revealed close collaboration among different authors. Annals of Surgical Oncology was the most influential journal in this field. Analysis of references with high co-citations and references with citation bursts, consistent with analysis of keywords and hotspots, indicated that current research primarily centers on the classification and management of appendiceal mucinous neoplasms and consequent pseudomyxoma peritonei. Despite the abundance of clinical studies, a greater number of in-depth basic research studies should be conducted.

Current research on appendiceal tumors focuses on classification and management of appendiceal mucinous neoplasms and pseudomyxoma peritonei. Enhanced collaboration and basic research are vital for further advancement.

This meta-analysis was designed to systematically assess the effectiveness and safety of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) combined with surgery for different stages of advanced gastric cancer (AGC) during the last 12 years.

The Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) were searched online, and papers were retrieved from other sources. Next, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and high-quality nonrandomized controlled trials (NRCTs) were selected for this analysis. The meta-analysis was conducted with RevMan5.4 software.

The 10 RCTs and 13 NRCTs selected for the study included 1892 patients. The overall survival rates were higher in the HIPEC group at 1 year (risk ratio [RR], 0.52; P = 0.004) and 3 years (RR, 0.63; P < 0.00001) than in the control group for the patients without peritoneal cancer, and the HIPEC group had a significant reduction in the recurrence rate (RR, 0.60; p < 0.00001). Among the patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC), the HIPEC group had significantly higher overall survival rates at 1 year (RR, 0.62; P = 0.00001), 2 years (RR, 0.85; P = 0.002), and 3 years (RR, 0.87; P = 0.0001), with an increase in the overall median survival time of 4.67 months. The two groups showed no statistically significant difference in terms of complications for patients with PC (RR, 1.03; P = 0.93) or without PC (RR, 1.15; P = 0.51).

For local AGC without PC, standard surgery combined with prophylactic HIPEC could prolong survival and reduce the recurrence rate without more complications. The prognosis of this treatment strategy for patients with PC is closely related to patient selection. Complete cytoreduction combined with therapeutic HIPEC could prolong survival.

Diagnosing the absence or presence of peritoneal carcinomatosis in patients with gastric cancer, including its extent and distribution, is an essential step in patients' therapeutic management. Such diagnosis still remains a radiological challenge. In this article, we review the strengths and weaknesses of the different imaging techniques for the diagnosis of peritoneal carcinomatosis of gastric origin as well as the techniques' imaging features. We also discuss the assessment of response to treatment and present recommendations for the follow-up of patients with complete surgical resection according to the presence of risk factors of recurrence, as well as discussing future directions for imaging improvement.

The presence of peritoneal free cancer cells (FCC) in gastric cancer (GC) patients is a poor prognostic factor. D2 gastrectomy may induce exfoliated FCC spread from the primary tumour or involved lymph nodes (LN). Conventional cytology for FCC detection has several limitations, whereas prophylactic use of extensive intraoperative peritoneal lavage (IPL) does not improve survival. A prospective single-arm observational study was conducted to verify whether D2 gastrectomy causes an intraoperative increase of FCC in peritoneal fluid. Twenty-seven GC patients underwent D2 gastrectomy, followed by objective quantitative measurements of CK19 mRNA level reflecting FCC with One-Step Nucleic Acid Amplification (OSNA) assay. The IPL with 3000 mL of saline was performed twice: (1) after gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy and (2) after alimentary tract reconstruction. The IPL samples were analysed by initial cytology and four (1-4) consecutive OSNA assays. Initial OSNA measurement (1) revealed positive results (≥24.6 cCP/μL) in 7 (29.6%) patients. Subsequent OSNA measurements showed a significant decrease in the FCC level after D2 gastrectomy (1 vs. 2; p = 0.0012). The first IPL induced a non-significant increase in the FCCs (2 vs. 3, p = 0.3300), but the second IPL reversed it to normal levels (3 vs. 4, p = 0.0.0574). The OSNA assay indicates a temporal intraoperative increase in the peritoneal FCC in advanced GC patients undergoing D2 gastrectomy. Two consecutive IPLs are necessary to reverse the increase of CK19 mRNA level in peritoneal washings.
