Abstract
BACKGROUND Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a growing public health concern, particularly in regions with diverse ethnic populations. Understanding the incidence and risk factors of GDM is crucial for early prevention and management, especially in underrepresented areas like Guizhou Province, China, where geographic and ethnic diversity may influence the disease's prevalence and risk profiles. AIM To investigate the incidence of GDM and identify its associated risk and protective factors among different ethnic groups in Guizhou Province, providing essential data for early prevention strategies. METHODS A multi-center retrospective study was conducted, dividing participants into GDM and non-GDM groups according to standardized diagnostic criteria. Data were collected from 103629 deliveries across 40 hospitals in Guizhou. Various demographic, clinical, and laboratory parameters were analyzed using logistic regression to identify risk and protective factors for GDM. RESULTS Among the 103629 deliveries, 18957 cases of GDM were identified, with an incidence of approximately 18.3%. The risk of GDM was higher in the Han ethnic group compared to minority ethnic groups. The Dong ethnic group had the lowest incidence among the minorities. Key risk factors identified included older age (especially > 35 years), higher pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI), light physical activity, gravidity, family history of diabetes, hemoglobin, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, and direct bilirubin. Protective factors included higher education level, total protein, and albumin. There were also differences based on blood type, with type A associated with higher risk. CONCLUSION The incidence rate in Guizhou is 18.3%. Older age (especially > 35 years), Han ethnicity, lower education level, higher pre-pregnancy BMI, light physical activity, and higher gravidity are the main risk factors for GDM. Laboratory findings indicate that higher hemoglobin, higher liver function parameters (alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and direct bilirubin), and lower total protein and albumin are associated with a higher risk of GDM. Blood type A has a higher risk of GDM compared to blood types AB and O.

Abstract
There is limited and inconsistent evidence that imply a relationship between ABO blood types and rate of preterm birth (PTB). We aim to examine the association between maternal ABO blood group and PTB rate. A retrospective-study conducted at a university teaching institution on data collected between 2013 and 2019. Women who delivered a viable neonate at ≥ 24 weeks without major malformations were included. Indicated PTBs were excluded. PTB and early PTB were defined as deliveries that occurred < 37 and < 34 weeks respectively. PTB was further divided into 3 subgroups according to etiology: membranes rupture, intact membranes, and placental abruption regardless of membranes' status. The primary outcome was spontaneous PTB rate. Of 19,301 women included, PTB and early PTB rates were 7.3% (1,418/19,301) and 2.3% (440/19,301) respectively. Rates of PTB in blood groups A, B, O, and AB, were 7.3%, 6.9%, 7.5%, and 7.5% respectively (p = 0.68). There was no significant difference according to etiology. Rates of early PTB were also comparable (p = 0.63). After adjustment for demographic and obstetric variables, blood type was associated with increased placental abruption rate among women who had early PTB (p = 0.038). Placental abruption rate was significantly higher in group A (22.5%) compared to group B (14.1%), (adjusted p = 0.04) and group O (14.0%), (adjusted p = 0.01). The rate in group AB was 17.1%, (adjusted p = 0.85). In conclusion, no association was found between a particular blood group and PTB rate. Women with group A, admitted in early PTB, had an increased risk that the underlying etiology was placental abruption.

Abstract
Routine antenatal tests include haemoglobin measurement, usually with red blood cell indices, white cell and platelet counts, and ABO and Rhesus blood groups, are aimed to screen for iron deficiency anaemia, carriage of haemoglobinopathy traits, and other forms of anaemia or other underlying but undiagnosed conditions. Iron deficiency anaemia has been associated with most of the common pregnancy complications including pre-eclampsia, preterm birth, antepartum and postpartum haemorrhage, low birthweight and small-for-gestational age infants, and impacts long-term neurocognitive and developmental outcomes in the offspring. Increased adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes are also found with high haemoglobin, thalassaemia and sickle cell traits, and the non-O blood groups especially group AB. Total white cell, neutrophil, and platelet counts and platelet indices can help to predict gestational diabetes mellitus. Results from these tests can be useful by themselves or used in combination with demographics and biomarkers to enhance the screening for high-risk pregnancies.

Abstract
Background The MTHFD1 G1958A polymorphism is a common variation in the gene encoding methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase 1 (MTHFD1), an enzyme crucial for folate metabolism. This study investigated the association between the MTHFD1 G1958A polymorphism, which is involved in folate metabolism, and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk. Methods A case-control study was conducted and 304 pregnant women (152 with gestational diabetes as cases and 152 healthy pregnant as controls) participated in the study. The polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphisms (PCR-RFLP) techniques were used to determine the MTHFD1 1958G>A polymorphism genotypes. Results Analysis of genotype frequencies revealed a statistically significant difference (p-value < 0.05) between the GDM group and the control group, suggesting a potential association between this gene variant and the development of GDM. Interestingly, while allele frequencies alone did not show a significant association with GDM risk, analysis in a recessive model (both severe and mild forms) demonstrated a strong link between the homozygous AA genotype and increased susceptibility to GDM. Conclusion This study provides the first evidence linking the MTHFD1 G1958A polymorphism and GDM risk in an Indian setting. These findings warrant further investigation into the functional impact of the MTHFD1 G1958A polymorphism and its potential role in the pathogenesis of GDM.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Some studies show an increased risk of gestational diabetes mellitus for ABO blood groups. Others find a lower risk or do not identify any association. Inconsistencies may be due to the heterogeneity in the control for confounding variables. We determined the association between ABO blood groups and gestational diabetes mellitus in Mexican women, controlling for gravidity and age, pre-pregnancy body mass index, fasting glucose at the first trimester, and first-degree relative with diabetes. METHODS This case-control study was conducted from February 2019 to December 2021 in Monterrey, Mexico, with 185 cases (women with gestational diabetes mellitus) and 530 controls. ABO blood groups and other variables were obtained from the clinical records. A multivariate binary logistic regression was used for estimating association. Two models were run, one for primigravidae and another for non-primigravidae. A p-value < 0.05 was significant. RESULTS The ABO blood groups were O (69.4%), A (22.2%), B (6.7%), and AB (1.7%), with no differences between cases and controls (p = 0.884). No association was found between ABO blood groups and gestational diabetes mellitus, in primigravidae or non-primigravidae. CONCLUSION ABO blood groups were not associated with an increased risk of gestational diabetes mellitus in Mexican women, independent of gravidity and well-known risk factors.

Abstract
RESEARCH QUESTION Does the maternal ABO blood type affect obstetric and perinatal outcomes following frozen embryo transfer (FET)? DESIGN A retrospective study was performed at a university-affiliated fertility centre, involving women with singleton and twin deliveries conceived by FET. Subjects were divided into four groups based on ABO blood type. The primary end-points were obstetric and perinatal outcomes. RESULTS A total of 20,981 women were involved, with 15,830 having singletons and 5151 delivering twins. In singleton pregnancies, women with blood group B had a slight but significantly increased risk of gestational diabetes mellitus compared to women with blood group O (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 1.16; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.01-1.34). Furthermore, singletons born to women with the B antigen (blood type B or AB) were more likely to be large for gestational age (LGA) and with macrosomia. In twin pregnancies, blood type AB was related to a decreased risk of hypertensive diseases of pregnancy (aOR 0.58; 95% CI 0.37-0.92), while blood type A was associated with a higher risk of placenta praevia (aOR 2.04; 95% CI 1.15-3.60). When compared with the O blood group, twins from the AB blood group had a lower risk of low birthweight (aOR 0.83; 95% CI 0.71-0.98) but a higher risk of LGA (aOR 1.26; 95% CI 1.05-1.52). CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrates that the ABO blood group may influence the obstetric and perinatal outcomes for both singletons and twins. These findings emphasize that patient characteristics could be, at least partly, responsible for adverse maternal and birth outcomes following IVF.

Abstract
Objective Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) can occur during pregnancy. One of the leading causes of it is a hormone produced by the placenta that interferes with glucose absorption and causes glucose buildup in the bloodstream. Genetic variations between ethnicities are believed to be associated with GDM, and there has been some research on the association of ABO blood group with GDM in different populations. However, the results so far are inconsistent, and there is no conclusive evidence on how ABO blood group affects the occurrence of GDM. This study aims to examine the link between ABO blood group and GDM in pregnant women at King Abdulaziz University Hospital. Methodology A retrospective cohort study was conducted on a group of GDM patients between 2019 and 2022 using data collected from the patients' medical records at King Abdulaziz University Hospital. Results The overall prevalence of GDM was high at 74.7%, and the percentage of patients with A, O, B, and AB blood group who had GDM was 42.9%, 41.41%, 12.1%, and 3.59%, respectively. However, there was no significant difference in Rh status or any other clinical characteristic between the participants who had GDM and those who did not have GDM. Conclusion The present findings indicate that blood group is not associated with the development of GDM in this cohort from Saudi Arabia. However, more studies are required in the future to corroborate these findings.

Abstract
AIMS There are few published data on the putative association between the ABO blood group/rhesus (Rh) factor and the risk of developing gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Our aim was to explore the link between each one factor and GDM development. METHODS All women having given birth at Lille University Medical Center (Lille, France) between August 1st, 2017, and February 28th, 2018, were tested for GDM, using the method recommended in the French national guidelines. The risk of GDM was assessed for each ABO blood group, each Rh phenotype and combinations thereof, using logistic regression models. RESULTS 1194 women had at least one GDM risk factor. The percentage of GDM varied with the ABO group (p=0.013). Relative to group O women, group AB women were more likely to develop GDM (OR = 2.50, 95% CI [1.43 to 4.36], p=0.001). Compared with the Rh-positive O group, only the Rh-positive AB group had an elevated risk of developing GDM (OR = 3.02, 95% CI [1.69 to 5.39], p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Our results showed that Rh-positive group AB women have a greater risk of GDM. With a view to preventing GDM, at-risk individuals could be identified by considering the ABO blood group phenotype either as a single risk factor or in combination with other risk factors.

Abstract
ABO blood types could be a biological predisposition for depression. The present cross-sectional analysis was conducted amid the second wave of COVID-19 in Japan during July 2020. We wanted to investigate the association between ABO blood types and depressive symptoms among workers (352 men and 864 women, aged 21-73 years) of a medical institution in Tokyo, Japan, which took a leading role in the response to COVID-19 in the country. A Poisson regression model with a robust variance estimator was used to estimate the prevalence ratio (PR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for depressive symptoms associated with ABO blood types. Overall, the prevalence of depressive symptoms (using two questions employed from a Two-question case-finding instrument) was 22.0%. The adjusted PRs (95% CI) for depressive symptoms, comparing the carriers of blood type O, A, and AB with those of type B, were 0.88 (0.66, 1.18), 0.81 (0.62, 1.07), and 1.07 (0.74, 1.53), respectively. There was no difference in the prevalence of depressive symptoms between non-B and B carriers. The present study did not support the association of ABO blood types with depressive symptoms.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE There is a lot of evidence that connects blood type to several diseases, including the development of diabetes mellitus type 2. The evidence for an association between ABO blood groups and the possibility of developing gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is scant and inconclusive. We aimed to examine the link between ABO blood group types and GDM by the use of a large population-based cohort of pregnant women. STUDY DESIGN A retrospective population-based cohort study was conducted using data collected from January 2013 to December 2017 from the Emek Medical Center, Afula, Israel. All pregnant women who underwent the two-step screening and diagnosed with GDM and delivered at >24 weeks were included. Women who had pre-gestational diabetes or whose pregnancies were terminated were excluded. The odds ratio (OR) were obtained through binary logistic regression analysis and the corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) by the use of both the univariable and multivariable analysis. RESULTS Of all 16,067 women included in the study cohort, 1712 (10.7%) had GDM. The incidence of GDM was 11.0%, 10.8%, 10.6%, and 8.8% in blood group A, B, O, and AB, respectively. After adjusting for maternal age, parity, and number of fetuses, AB blood group was associated with reduced risk for developing GDM compared to the other blood groups (p = .038; adjusted OR: 0.79; 95% CI: 0.64-0.99). There was no difference in Rhesus factor between GDM and controls. CONCLUSIONS Women with AB blood group have a lower risk for developing GDM compared to other blood group types.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common metabolic disorder syndrome in women during pregnancy. If effective measures are not taken to intervene in the early stage of GDM, severe effects will damage maternal and infant health. ABO is the most important human blood group system. A large number of studies have displayed that ABO blood group is associated with many diseases. At present, the risk relationship between ABO blood group and GDM is controversial. The purpose of this study is to explore the risk relationship between ABO blood group and GDM by meta-analysis, thus providing basis for the prevention and treatment of GDM. METHODS An electronic database, including Embase, Cochrane Library, Pubmed, Chinese databases SinoMed, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Scientific Journals Database and Wanfang Data, will be used to search for studies of ABO blood group and GDM. The language will be limited to Chinese and English. The two reviewers will be responsible for the selection of the study, the extraction of data and the evaluation of the quality of the research. All statistical analyses will be carried out using Review Manager 5.3. RESULTS The results of this meta-analysis will be published in peer-reviewed journals. CONCLUSION This study will provide evidence to support the relationship between ABO blood group and the risk of GDM. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The private information from individuals will not be published. This systematic review also will not involve endangering participant rights. Ethical approval is not required. Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have examined the relationships between prenatal fine particulate matter (PM2.5) exposure and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), but the results were inconsistent. Furthermore, the possible effect modification by ABO blood group has not been explored. OBJECTIVES To assess the associations of PM2.5 exposures during pregnancy with maternal glucose levels as well as GDM, and further to evaluate the potential effect modification by ABO blood group. METHODS Between January 2013 and January 2015, 4783 pregnant women were enrolled in our study based on a birth cohort in Wuhan. Daily PM2.5 exposure levels for each woman during pregnancy were estimated using a spatial-temporal land-use regression model. Linear regressions with general estimating equations (GEE) were performed to assess the associations between trimester-specific PM2.5 exposures and maternal glucose levels. Modified Poisson regressions with GEE analyses were used to evaluate the impacts of PM2.5 exposures during each trimester on the risk of GDM. The associations of PM2.5 exposure during the whole study period with glucose levels and GDM were estimated using multiple linear regression model and modified Poisson regression model, respectively. We conducted a stratified analysis to explore the potential effect modification by ABO blood group. RESULTS Among all the 4783 participants, 394 (8.24%) had GDM. Exposure to PM2.5 was found to be positively associated with elevated fasting glucose level during the whole study period [0.382 mg/dL, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.179-0.586, per 10 μg/m3 increase in PM2.5], the first trimester (0.154 mg/dL ,95% CI: 0.017-0.291) and the second trimester (0.541 mg/dL, 95% CI: 0.390-0.692). No statistically significant results were observed between PM2.5 and 1-h and 2-h glucose levels during any study period. Increased risks of GDM for each 10 μg/m3 increase in PM2.5 levels were observed during the whole study period [relative risk (RR): 1.120, 95% CI: 1.021-1.228] and the first trimester (RR: 1.074, 95% CI: 1.012-1.141), but not the second trimester (RR: 1.035, 95% CI: 0.969-1.106). Stratified analysis indicated that the associations of PM2.5 exposures with GDM were more pronounced among pregnant women with blood group A, but no significant effect modifications were observed. CONCLUSION Our study enriched epidemiological evidence linking PM2.5 exposures during pregnancy to elevated maternal glucose levels and increased risk of GDM. More importantly, we first highlighted that the impact of PM2.5 on GDM might be greater among pregnant women with blood group A.

Abstract
This study aimed to identify the independent and combined effects of age, BMI at first prenatal visit and GWG on the risk of GDM. A retrospective cohort study of 1,951 pregnant women in Seremban district, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. GDM was defined as fasting plasma glucose (FPG) ≥5.6 mmol/l and/or 2-hour postprandial plasma glucose (2hPPG) ≥7.8 mmol/l. A higher percentage of women with GDM had 2 risk factors (29.0%) or >2 risk factors (8.6%) compared to non-GDM women (2 risk factors: 25.5%; >2 risk factors: 5.0%). In general, women with ≥2 risk factors were respectively 1.36-2.06 times more likely to have GDM compared to those without risk factors. Older maternal age and being overweight/obese were significantly associated with risk of GDM. Overweight/obese women with age ≥35 years had 2.45 times higher risk of GDM and having excessive GWG at second trimester further increased the risk of GDM. Age and BMI are independent risk factors for GDM but not GWG in the first and second trimester. The findings emphasize the need to focus on a healthy BMI before pregnancy and optimal GWG during pregnancy to improve pregnancy outcomes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is the most prevalent medical complication in pregnancy. Early diagnosis of GDM can influence maternal/neonatal outcomes. To assess the association between platelet and blood inflammatory indices and the risk of GDM occurrence using the complete blood count (CBC) test. We also aimed to determine the sensitivity of each parameter for an early screening of this disorder during pregnancy. METHODS This case-control study included 2 groups of 110 pregnant women with and without GDM. The women in each group were compared after the routine screening for GDM and after the CBC test at 24-28 weeks' gestation after being matched according to the inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 16 and Medcalc version 14.8.1 software. RESULTS There were statistically significant intergroup differences in white blood cell (WBC) count, platelet count, mean platelet volume (MPV), plateletcrit (PCT), MPV to platelet ratio, platelet to lymphocyte ratio, and Rh values. The values of lymphocyte count, neutrophil count, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, and blood group were not significantly different between groups. The logistic regression analysis showed the predictive values of WBC, platelet, MPV, and PCT in GDM. According to the receiver operating characteristic curve for all 3 variables, the level below the PCT chart was more than that of the others. CONCLUSION Increasing platelet and inflammatory indices on the CBC test in the second trimester of pregnancy seemed to be associated with the probability of GDM occurrence.

Abstract
Generally, dietary patterns (DP)s have been linked to the risk of diabetes mellitus, however, only few studies examined the associations between DPs in early pregnancy and the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). This study aims to determine the association between DPs before and during pregnancy and risk of GDM in Malaysian pregnant women. DPs were derived using principal component analysis of consumed 126 food and beverage items assessed using a validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire collecting data retrospectively for pre-pregnancy, but prospectively for the first and second trimester. Three different DPs were identified at each time point and labelled as DP 1–3 (pre-pregnancy), DP 4–6 (first trimester), and DP 7–9 (second trimester). About 10.6% (n = 48) of pregnant women were diagnosed with GDM in our cohort. Women with high adherence (HA) to DP 2 (adjusted OR: 0.45, 95% CI: 0.20–0.91) and DP 5 (adjusted OR: 0.28, 95% CI: 0.11–0.68) showed a significantly reduced risk of GDM compared to women with low adherence (LA). Other DPs were not significantly associated with GDM risk. Compared to women with GDM, non-GDM women showed HA scores for all DPs throughout pregnancy. Overall, a relative low percentage of women with GDM was found in this cohort. The risk was lower in women with HA to a relatively unhealthy dietary pattern, i.e. DP 2 and DP 5. The lower body mass index (BMI) status and energy intake of women showing a HA to DP 2 in the first trimester may underlie the observed association with a lower GDM risk. Additionally, genetic variance might explain the less susceptibility to GDM despite HA to unhealthy DPs among non-GDM women.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the association between the ABO blood group and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). METHODS A case-control study was conducted in 600 pregnant women who received GDM screening with 50-g GCT and diagnosis by 100-g OGTT according to institutional guidelines. The cases included 200 women with GDM and another 400 normal pregnant women were randomly selected as controls. Various characteristics and ABO blood group were extracted from medical records and compared between cases and controls to determine their association with GDM. Logistic regression analysis was performed to determine independent associated factors for GDM adjusting for potential confounders. RESULTS Univariate analysis showed that significant factors associated with GDM were age ≥30 years, family history of DM, overweight, and obesity. Only blood group O significantly increased risk of GDM (OR 1.51, 95% CI 1.06-2.13, p = .020). Logistic regression analysis showed that blood group O independently increased the risk of GDM (adjusted OR 1.99, 95% CI 1.32-3.0, p = .001). The risk of GDM was enhanced in women with blood group O with family history of DM (adjusted OR 3.5, 95% CI 1.57-7.81, p = .002) while it was attenuated among those without (adjusted OR 1.6, 95% CI 0.97-2.64, p = .064). CONCLUSION Blood group O independently increased the risk of GDM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a of the major public health issues in Asia. The present study aimed to determine the prevalence of, and risk factors for GDM in Asia via a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS We systematically searched PubMed, Ovid, Scopus and ScienceDirect for observational studies in Asia from inception to August 2017. We selected cross sectional studies reporting the prevalence and risk factors for GDM. A random effects model was used to estimate the pooled prevalence of GDM and odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS Eighty-four studies with STROBE score ≥ 14 were included in our analysis. The pooled prevalence of GDM in Asia was 11.5% (95% CI 10.9-12.1). There was considerable heterogeneity (I2 > 95%) in the prevalence of GDM in Asia, which is likely due to differences in diagnostic criteria, screening methods and study setting. Meta-analysis demonstrated that the risk factors of GDM include history of previous GDM (OR 8.42, 95% CI 5.35-13.23); macrosomia (OR 4.41, 95% CI 3.09-6.31); and congenital anomalies (OR 4.25, 95% CI 1.52-11.88). Other risk factors include a BMI ≥25 kg/m2 (OR 3.27, 95% CI 2.81-3.80); pregnancy-induced hypertension (OR 3.20, 95% CI 2.19-4.68); family history of diabetes (OR 2.77, 2.22-3.47); history of stillbirth (OR 2.39, 95% CI 1.68-3.40); polycystic ovary syndrome (OR 2.33, 95% CI1.72-3.17); history of abortion (OR 2.25, 95% CI 1.54-3.29); age ≥ 25 (OR 2.17, 95% CI 1.96-2.41); multiparity ≥2 (OR 1.37, 95% CI 1.24-1.52); and history of preterm delivery (OR 1.93, 95% CI 1.21-3.07). CONCLUSION We found a high prevalence of GDM among the Asian population. Asian women with common risk factors especially among those with history of previous GDM, congenital anomalies or macrosomia should receive additional attention from physician as high-risk cases for GDM in pregnancy. Abstract
Background: We aimed to investigate the interaction between prediabetes and the ABO blood types in predicting esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC)-specific mortality by analysing data from the FIESTA study on normal/prediabetic patients with ESCC. Methods: Total 1,857 normal/prediabetic patients with ESCC who underwent three-field lymphadenectomy between January 2000 and December 2010 and survived hospitalization were analyzable, with follow-up beginning in 2000 and ending in 2015. Results: At the end of the follow-up, there were 1,161 survivors and 696 non-survivors. The follow-up time ranged from 0.5 to 180 months. The cumulative survival rates in normal patients were obviously better than in prediabetic patients. The cumulative survival rates were significantly higher in normal patients than in prediabetic patients for the blood types O and A (Log-rank test P < 0.05), while no significance was detected for the blood types B and AB. Adjusted risk estimates for ESCC-specific mortality for prediabetic patients relative to normal patients were statistically significant in the blood type B− group (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.71; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.33–2.20; P < 0.001), but not in the blood type B+ group (HR: 1.12; 95% CI: 0.77–1.64; P = 0.5544). Conclusions: Our findings indicate that prediabetes can predict the significant risk of ESCC-specific mortality in Chinese Han patients with the blood types O and A.

Abstract
AIM To review the prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in Eastern and Southeastern Asia. METHODS We systematically searched for observational studies on GDM prevalence from January 2000 to December 2016. Inclusion criteria were original English papers, with full texts published in peer-reviewed journals. The quality of included studies was evaluated using the guidelines of the National Health and Medical Research Council, Australia. Fixed effects and random effects models were used to estimate the summary prevalence of GDM and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI). RESULTS A total of 4415 papers were screened, and 48 studies with 63 GDM prevalence observations were included in the final review. The pooled prevalence of GDM was 10.1% (95% CI: 6.5%-15.7%), despite substantial variations across nations. The prevalence of GDM in lower- or upper-middle income countries was about 64% higher than in their high-income counterparts. Moreover, the one-step screening method was twice more likely to be used in diagnosing GDM when compared to the two-step screening procedure. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of GDM in Eastern and Southeastern Asia was high and varied among and within countries. There is a need for international uniformity in screening strategies and diagnostic criteria for GDM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Few studies had examined the role of ABO blood groups on CAD in hypertensive patients with different blood pressure (BP) controls. METHODS A total of 2708 patients with primary hypertension (HTN) were consecutively enrolled and underwent coronary angiography (CAG) due to angina-like chest pain. The severity of coronary artery stenosis was assessed by Gensini score (GS). Patients were divided into two groups due to results of CAG: HTN with CAD (n = 2185) and HTN without CAD (n = 523). Poor BP control was defined as systolic BP (SBP) ≥ mean in the study. Multivariable regression analysis was used to determine the potential impact of ABO blood groups on risk of the presence and severity of CAD. RESULTS Compared to HTN without CAD group, the percentage of A blood group was statistically higher and O blood group was significantly lower in HTN with CAD group. Moreover, percentage of the angiography-proven CAD was higher in A blood group than that in non-A blood group (p < 0.05). After adjusting for confounding factors, A blood group was independently associated with CAD (odds ratio (OR): 1.422; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.017-1.987; p = 0.039) and GS (β = 0.055, p = 0.046) in patients with poor BP control. CONCLUSIONS A blood group was an independent risk factor for the presence and severity of CAD in hypertensive patients with poor BP control.
