Abstract
The Test Making Test (TMT) was originally created as a distributed attention test. Part B (TMT-B) has been proposed as representative of executive functions as effective problem solving and working memory. This study aimed to explore the validity of the TMT-B as an indicator of working memory in adults. A cross-sectional study was conducted by using linear correlation coefficients between the TMT-B and neuropsychological and electrophysiological tests of working memory. Fifty-six individuals participated, all of which had normal cognitive functioning and were aged between 19 and 55 years old. Results show a significant correlation among the TMT-B scores with all subtests, the overall score of the Corsi Block-Tapping Test, the Working Memory Index of the WAIS-IV (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale) (p ≤ .05) and the auditory Event Related Potentials (p < .01) with the N200 and P300 latencies and amplitudes. These findings are preliminary evidence of the validity of the TMT-B for the evaluation of working memory in adults. Additional studies are required to assess the differential validity of the TMT-B in the evaluation of working memory, through comparative correlational analyzes with the results of various neuropsychological tests that assess other cognitive functions.

Abstract
Visual joint attention, the ability to track gaze and recognize intent, plays a key role in the development of social and language skills in health humans, which is performed abnormally hard in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The traditional convolutional neural network, EEGnet, is an effective model for decoding technology, but few studies have utilized this model to address attentional training in ASD patients. In this study, EEGNet was used to decode the P300 signal elicited by training and the saliency map method was used to visualize the cognitive properties of ASD patients during visual attention. The results showed that in the spatial distribution, the parietal lobe was the main region of classification contribution, especially for Pz electrode. In the temporal information, the time period from 300 to 500 ms produced the greatest contribution to the electroencephalogram (EEG) classification, especially around 300 ms. After training for ASD patients, the gradient contribution was significantly enhanced at 300 ms, which was effective only in social scenarios. Meanwhile, with the increase of joint attention training, the P300 latency of ASD patients gradually shifted forward in social scenarios, but this phenomenon was not obvious in non-social scenarios. Our results indicated that joint attention training could improve the cognitive ability and responsiveness of social characteristics in ASD patients.

Abstract
Cognitive impairment is observed in 12% to 56% of stroke patients, and screening for cognitive impairment is often complex and time-consuming, with results dependent on patient compliance. Therefore, there is a need for an objective method to assess cognitive impairment regardless of patient compliance. Objective evaluation methods include electroencephalogram (EEG) and event-related potential (ERP). This study was conducted to assess intra-tester reliability of resting EEG-based spectral features and auditory/visual P300 latency/amplitude in patients with subacute ischemic stroke. Twenty patients with subacute ischemic stroke were included in the study. The resting EEG and P300 wave using an auditory and visual oddball paradigm were measured at baseline and once again in 24 hours. The following electrode positions (10-20 system) were constantly recorded: F3 (Frontal), Fz, F4, C3 (Central), Cz, C4, P3 (Parietal), Pz, P4. DAR (delta/alpha ratio) and BSI (brain symmetry index) were determined using EEG data. F3 and F4, C3 and C4 and P3 and P4 were switched according to the stroke side and classified as affected hemisphere (AH) and unaffected hemisphere (UH) after the evaluation. In ERP, the amplitude and latency of P300 were obtained. In reliability analysis of EEG-based spectral characteristics, significant reliability was observed for DAR (ICC = 0.447), BSldir (ICC = 0.713) and BSIdirtheta (ICC = 0.724) (Table 4). DAR was showed a poor ICC level, and BSIdir and BSIdirtheta had a moderate ICC level. Visual P300 latency showed excellent intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) in several montages (PUH = 0.972, Pz = 0.945). In 6 montages, auditory P300 latency was reliable, while in 9 montages, visual P300 latency was reliable. In 4 montages, auditory P300 amplitude was reliable, while visual P300 amplitude was reliable in 7. The visual P300 was more reliable than the auditory P300. The ICC values for P300 latency were greater than those for amplitude. Therefore, when ERP is performed on subacute stroke patients, visual has higher reliability than auditory.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The present study aims to investigate the effects of age, gender, and level of education on P300 in a healthy population, aged 50 years and over; and determine the reliability metrics for different conditions and measurement methods. METHOD Auditory and visual oddball recordings of 171 healthy adults were investigated. A fully automated preprocessing was applied to elicit ERP P300. Maximum peak amplitude, latency and mean amplitudes were measured. Data were stratified by age, gender, and education to determine group-level differences by using repeat measures of ANOVA. The internal consistency of P300 was calculated by a split-half method using odd-even segments. Test-retest reliability was assessed by calculating the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). RESULTS Maximum peak P300 amplitudes were higher in the 50-64 years age group compared to the >65 years age group; and females showed increased P300 amplitudes compared to males. P300 measures showed fair to good internal consistency and poor to good test-retest reliability. CONCLUSION Age and gender should be taken into account when designing ERP studies with elderly individuals. P300 showed good internal consistency in general, between gender groups and age groups. Long-term test-retest reliability was lower but acceptable. These findings can be interpreted as the strength of P300 by being an objective and reliable method independent of cultural differences. Here we underline several factors that may affect P300 measures and discuss other possible factors that should be standardized for P300 to be used in clinical settings.

Abstract
The leading factors of post-stroke disability are motor disorders and cognitive dysfunctions. The aim of the study was to identify and provide a rationale for the variable early cognitive dysfunction in right and left hemispheric damage in patients with acute stroke. The study included 80 patients diagnosed with ischemic stroke. All patients were assessed for cognitive status, depression, fatigue and anxiety. For objectification, the method of evoked potentials (P300) and neuroimaging were used. Our findings revealed distinguishing features of cognitive dysfunction and identified a combination of the most informative markers characteristic of right and left hemispheric damage in patients with acute ischemic stroke. In patients with damage to the left hemisphere, a predominance of dysregulation syndrome (decrease in executive function and attention) was revealed, accompanied by various disorders such as severe anxiety and fatigue. The causes of this cognitive dysfunction may be directly related to stroke (damage to subcortical structures), as well as to a preexisting reduction in higher mental functions associated with age and vascular conditions. Cognitive impairments in patients with lesions of the right hemisphere were characterized by polymorphism and observed in the mental praxis, speech (with predominant semantic component) and abstract thinking domains. They are closely linked to each other and are more related to the lateralization of the lesion and preexisting neurodegeneration than to the localization of the ischemic lesion. The study of P300-evoked potentials is a good tool for confirming cognitive dysfunction. The latent period of the P300 wave is more sensitive to neurodegeneration, while the amplitude factor characterizes vascular pathology to a greater extent. The results of the study provide a rationale for a comprehensive assessment of lateralization, stroke localization, underlying diseases, neurophysiological parameters and identified cognitive impairments when developing a plan of rehabilitation and neuropsychological measures aimed at cognitive and emotional recovery of patients both in the acute phase of ischemic stroke and when selecting further personalized rehabilitation programs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is the most common concomitant symptom in the treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC). Such patients often present with subjective fatigue state accompanied by cognitive dysfunction, which seriously affects the quality of life of patients.
AIM To explore the effects of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) combined with Baduanjin exercise on CRF, cognitive impairment, and quality of life in patients with CRC after chemotherapy, and to provide a theoretical basis and practical reference for rehabilitation of CRC after chemotherapy.
METHODS Fifty-five patients with CRC after radical resection and chemotherapy were randomly divided into either an experimental or a control group. The experimental group received the intervention of CBT combined with exercise intervention for 6 mo, and indicators were observed and measured at baseline, 3 mo, and 6 mo to evaluate the intervention effect.
RESULTS Compared with the baseline values, in the experimental group 3 mo after intervention, cognitive function, quality of life score, and P300 amplitude and latency changes were significantly better (P < 0.01). Compared with the control group, at 3 mo, the experimental group had significant differences in CRF, P300 amplitude, and quality of life score (P < 0.05), as well as significant differences in P300 latency and cognitive function (P < 0.01). Compared with the control group, at 6 mo, CRF, P300 amplitude, P300 latency, cognitive function and quality of life score were further improved in the experimental group, with significant differences (P < 0.01). The total score of CRF and the scores of each dimension were negatively correlated with quality of life (P < 0.05), while the total score of cognitive impairment and the scores of each dimension were positively correlated with quality of life (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION CBT combined with body-building Baduanjin exercise can improve CRF and cognitive impairment in CRC patients after chemotherapy, and improve their quality of life.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to explore the association of P300 components with clinical characteristics and efficacy of pharmacotherapy in alcohol use disorder (AUD). METHODS One hundred fifty-one AUD patients and 96 healthy controls were recruited and evaluated for the symptoms of depression, anxiety, sleep, and cognitive function by the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7), the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Digit Symbol Substitution test (DSST), and event-related potential P300, which is one of the averaged scalp electroencephalography responses time-locked to specific events. Among the AUD group, 101 patients finished an 8-week pharmacotherapy and were evaluated for the above data at post-intervention. RESULTS 1. At baseline, AUD patients had higher scores of AUDIT, PHQ-9, GAD-7, PSQI, and P300 latency at Cz, Pz, and Fz and lower DSST score and smaller P300 amplitudes at Fz, Cz, and Pz compared with controls. P300 components correlated significantly with alcohol dose and score of AUDIT, PHQ-9, GAD-7, PSQI, and DSST. 2. After 8 weeks' treatment, there were significant changes for the P300 components; alcohol dose; and score of AUDIT, PHQ-9, GAD-7, PSQI, and DSST. Variables at baseline, including P300 amplitudes at Fz, Cz, and Pz; latency of Fz and Pz; alcohol dose; and scores of PHQ-9, GAD-7, PSQI, and DSST, were significantly associated with changes of reduction rate of AUDIT scores. However, P300 amplitudes at Fz, Cz, and Pz in AUD patients after 8-week treatment were still significantly shorter than healthy controls (HCs), and P300 latencies at Fz, Cz, and Pz were significantly longer than HCs. 3. When validated area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was over 0.80, the baseline variables including amplitudes at Cz and Pz, alcohol dose, and scores of PSQI could predict the changes of reduction rate of AUDIT score. CONCLUSION P300 amplitudes and latencies at Fz, Cz, and Pz could be used as biological markers for evaluating the clinical characters and severity of AUD. P300 amplitudes at Cz and Pz, sleep condition, and cognitive function at baseline could predict the efficacy of pharmacotherapy for AUD patients.

Abstract
The P300 is an event-related potential component that reflects attention to motivationally salient stimuli and may be a promising tool to examine individual differences in cognitive-affective processing very early in development. However, the psychometric properties of the P300 in infancy are unknown, a fact that limits the component's utility as an individual difference measure in developmental research. To address this gap, 38 infants completed an auditory three-stimulus oddball task that included frequent standard, infrequent deviant, and novel stimuli. We quantified the P300 at a single electrode site and at region of interest (ROI) and examined the internal consistency reliability of the component, both via split-half reliability and as a function of trial number. Results indicated that the P300 to standard, deviant, and novel stimuli fell within moderate to high internal consistency reliability thresholds, and that scoring the component at an ROI led to slightly higher estimates of reliability. However, the percentage of data loss due to artifacts increased across the course of the task, suggesting that including more trials will not necessarily improve the reliability of the P300. Together, these results suggest that robust and reliable measurement of the P300 will require designing tasks that minimize trial number and maximize infant tolerability.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The ability to measure event-related potentials (ERPs) as practical, portable brain vital signs is limited by the physical locations of electrodes. Standard electrode locations embedded within the hair result in challenges to obtaining quality signals in a rapid manner. Moreover, these sites require electrode gel, which can be inconvenient. As electrical activity in the brain is spatially volume distributed, it should be possible to predict ERPs from distant sensor locations at easily accessible mastoid and forehead scalp regions. METHODS An artificial neural network was trained on ERP signals recorded from below hairline electrode locations (Tp9, Tp10, Af7, Af8 referenced to Fp1, Fp2) to predict signals recorded at the ideal Cz location. RESULTS The model resulted in mean improvements in intraclass correlation coefficient relative to control for all stimulus types (Standard Tones: +9.74%, Deviant Tones: +3.23%, Congruent Words: +15.25%, Incongruent Words: +25.43%) and decreases in RMS Error (Standard Tones: -26.72%, Deviant Tones: -17.80%, Congruent Words: -28.78%, Incongruent Words: -29.61%) compared to the individual distant channels. Measured vs predicted ERP amplitudes were highly and significantly correlated with control for the N100 (R = 0.5, padj < 0.05), P300 (R = 0.75, padj < 0.01), and N400 (R = 0.75, padj < 0.01) ERPs. CONCLUSION ERP waveforms at distant channels can be combined using a neural network autoencoder to model the control channel features with better precision than those at individual distant channels. This is the first demonstration of feasibility of predicting evoked potentials and brain vital signs using signals recorded from more distant, practical locations. SIGNIFICANCE This solves a key engineering challenge for applications that require portability, comfort, and speed of measurement as design priorities for measurement of event-related potentials across a range of individuals, settings, and circumstances.

Abstract
Brain-computer interfaces are sophisticated signal processing systems, which directly operate on neuronal signals to identify specific human intents. These systems can be applied to overcome certain disabilities or to enhance the natural capabilities of human beings. The visual P300 mind-speller is a prominent one among them, which has opened up tremendous possibilities in movement and communication applications. Today, there exist many state-of-the-art visual P300 mind-speller implementations in the literature as a result of numerous researches in this domain over the past 2 decades. Each of these systems can be evaluated in terms of performance metrics like classification accuracy, information transfer rate, and processing time. Various classification techniques associated with these systems, which include but are not limited to discriminant analysis, support vector machine, neural network, distance-based and ensemble of classifiers, have major roles in determining the overall system performances. The significance of a proper review on the recent developments in visual P300 mind-spellers with proper emphasis on their classification algorithms is the key insight for this work. This article is organized with a brief introduction to P300, concepts of visual P300 mind-spellers, the survey of literature with special focus on classification algorithms, followed by the discussion of various challenges and future directions.

Abstract
The residual consciousness of unconscious patients can be detected by studying the P300, a wave among event-related potentials. Previous studies have applied tones, the subject's name and other names as stimuli. However, the results were not satisfactory. In this study, we changed the constituent order of subjects' two-character names to create derived names. The subject's derived names, together with tones and their own names, were used as auditory stimuli in event-related potential experiments. Healthy controls and unconscious patients were included in this study and made to listen to these auditory stimuli. In the two paradigms, a sine tone followed by the subject's own name and the subject's derived name followed by the subject's own name were used as standard and deviant stimuli, respectively. The results showed that all healthy controls had the P300 using both paradigms, and that the P300 in the second paradigm had a longer latency and two peaks. All minimally conscious state patients had the P300 in the first paradigm and the majority of them had the P300 in the second paradigm. Most vegetative state patients had no P300. Patients who showed the P300 in the two paradigms had more residual consciousness, and patients with the two-peak P300 had a higher probability of awakening within a short time. Our experimental findings suggest that the P300 event-related potential could reflect the conscious state of unconscious patients.
