The model illustrates two independent pathways through which enteropathy may affect systemic iron metabolism. Enteropathy influences intestinal iron absorption (ΔFe) and serum ferritin levels through partially independent mechanisms. Ferritin is associated with erythrocyte quality but not with erythrocyte quantity, supporting the proposed dual-pathway framework. RBC: Red blood cells.
