Both resident Kupffer cells and recruited macrophages are involved in the pathogenesis of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. Modulation of macrophage activation, polarization, and recruitment by natural products contributes to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis improvement. Metabolic status affects the function of macrophages, and natural products also regulate macrophage metabolism.
