This paper investigates the impact of surgical fundoplication versus proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy on histologic outcomes in patients with Barrett's esophagus (BE). The study synthesized data from six cohort studies that included 1,433 patients to evaluate the effectiveness of these two treatment modalities. This meta-analysis provides compelling evidence for considering surgical options, particularly in younger patients or those with severe gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
