We carefully reviewed the recent study by Li et al. published in the World Journal of Gastroenterology and reflected on its potential clinical implications. The study innovatively demonstrated that salidroside can attenuate intestinal inflammation and promote mucosal repair by activating the cAMP/PKA/CREB signaling pathway and suppressing the abnormal activation of enteric glial cells. These findings suggest that the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis may involve not only conventional immune-inflammatory dysregulation but also dysfunction of the neuro–glia–immune regulatory network.Given the persistent clinical challenges in UC management, including limited long-term therapeutic efficacy, high relapse rates, and treatment-related adverse effects, the development of multitarget therapeutic strategies with anti-inflammatory, mucosal-protective, and neuroimmune-modulating properties is of considerable importance. In light of these findings, further studies may focus on the current therapeutic landscape of UC, systematically evaluating the pharmacological characteristics and potential clinical value of salidroside. Moreover, exploring its mechanisms of action and translational potential from the perspective of neuro-glia-immune regulation may provide novel insights into the pathogenesis of UC and contribute to the development of more effective therapeutic strategies.
