Reader Comments:
The article explores the challenges and opportunities of applying artificial intelligence (AI) in gastroenterology. Gastroenterology, as a discipline, possesses a massive data repository, making it a fertile ground for the application of AI and machine learning software. The exploration of AI in gastroenterology, such as in pathological diagnosis, blind spot monitoring, and assisted training, has significantly enhanced the quality and efficiency of medical care. However, due to the large volume of databases and the lack of unified standards for data quality control in current phase, there is an increased risk of misdiagnosis with the use of AI. Currently, large-scale multicenter clinical studies on AI in digestive endoscopy have not been conducted, and the potential drawbacks of AI have not been fully exposed.
The author elaborates on several challenges faced in the widespread application of AI in healthcare and gastroenterology, and discusses how to overcome these challenges. Specifically, these challenges include accuracy, cost-effectiveness, network security, interpretability, regulation, and accountability. The article primarily highlights the advantages of AI in gastroenterology, briefly mentioning the potential professional crisis and negative impacts it may have on doctors. It suggests that more emphasis should be placed on what doctors can do to avoid future professional crises and replacement risks, with specific and achievable examples.
Overall, the author believes that medicine has warmth and is distinct from AI. AI can only serve as a tool used by doctors to make the treatment process more efficient. However, in the era of AI, doctors also need to continuously improve themselves to adapt to this tool in order to better serve patients.
