Reader Comments:
A well written computation of the therapeutic innovations that have evolved from the beneficial effects derived from selective inhibition of the immune system's Th 1 response. Crohn's disease (CD) is now accepted as being due to, in the absence of acquired immunity, fixation of of inherent immunity's Th1 response to Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis and subsequent concentrated antigen (MAP)/ cytokine focal destruction of mucosal integrity. What is left under the umbrella of inflammatory diseases is ulcerative colitis (UC) which, without a diagnostic test of disease specificity, more probably than not, embraces a number of disease entities of diverging pathogenesis. The clinical efficacy studies that included Crohn's disease afflicted individuals need to be scrubbed in order to attain UC relevance. In most efficacy studies, it is not just to what extent a specific drug demonstrates a degree of efficacy versus placebo controls. It is why it fails or ultimately fails in the majority of cases that is left under-addressed.
