We read with interest the article by Choi GH et al. They investigate the profiles of plasma levels of angiogenesis markers in patients with HCC and evaluate their roles in predicting overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS), which indicated the plasma levels of Ang-2 correlated with liver function, tumor stage, and tumor invasiveness, showing better performance in predicting OS and PFS than AFP, Ang-1, or VEGF.
We appreciate the authors' unique perspective by exploring the prognostic role of plasma level of angiopoietin-1, angiopoietin-2, and vascular endothelial growth factor in HCC. However, it may make the results more meaningful if the authors build on this by presenting the differential expression of angiopoietin-1, angiopoietin-2, and vascular endothelial growth factor in normal and tumor tissues of HCC as a whole, such as analysis of HCC cases in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database by bioinformatics or their data. We have completed this part of the work and will subsequently provide detailed data in the form of a letter to the editor.
