We have thoroughly reviewed the allegations regarding our published article, titled "Efficacy and safety analysis of transarterial chemoembolization and transarterial radioembolization in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma descending hepatectomy," published in World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery (
We fully recognize the significant concerns regarding the timeline discrepancy of the transarterial radioembolization (TARE) procedure in China and the authenticity of the submitted ethical approval documents. After conducting an internal review and engaging in discussions with the relevant hospital ethics committee, we would like to offer the following clarifications and decisions.
Concerning the timeline discrepancy of TARE procedure described in the article (2016-2021) and its actual introduction in China (2022), we acknowledge that ambiguity in the procedural definitions and timelines may lead to misunderstandings about the clinical application of TARE mentioned in the study. Upon careful re-examination, the term “TARE” in this study encompassed exploratory, non-standardized interventional procedures conducted prior to the formal adoption of TARE technology in China (2022). Consequently, the data cannot be reliably attributed to the current standardized TARE protocol and the conclusions drawn from this cohort are not that valid. We deeply regret this omission and take full responsibility for the confusion it has caused.
With regard to the concerns about the ethical approval documents, we accept full responsibility for the errors and potential irregularities found in these documents. These issues likely arose due to technical errors during the organization and submission of the materials, or due to discrepancies in file transfers. While the study was conducted in accordance with ethical principles, the inability to provide complete and verifiable documentation necessitates retraction to uphold the highest standards of research integrity.
While we remain confident in the scientific rigor underlying the research, we recognize that the current situation could adversely impact the academic reputation of both the authors and the journal. To prevent further misunderstandings and avoid unnecessary disputes, we have decided to withdraw the manuscript. This decision is made in the interest of preserving the integrity of the academic process and maintaining a transparent and credible research environment.
Should additional information or documentation be required, we are fully prepared to cooperate and provide the necessary materials. Please do not hesitate to contact us if further actions are needed on our part.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support in upholding the integrity of scientific research.
