Figure 1 Capsule endoscopy and gastroscopy. A and B: Capsule endoscopy, the intestinal lumen of the small intestine was unobstructed, and villous atrophy of the small intestinal mucosa was evident in the descending duodenum, horizontal segment, jejunum and proximal ileum. Villus atrophy of the distal ileum was relatively mild, and no erosion, ulcers or masses were found; C: Gastroscopy, the descending and horizontal segment mucosa showed atrophy with slight granularity. A biopsy was taken.

Figure 2 Histopathological analysis. A and B: The epithelium of the mucosal portion of the descending duodenum had sloughed off, the subepithelial collagen band was thickened, the mucosal villi were significantly atrophied (arrow in A), and there was plasma cell infiltration throughout the mucosal layer. Degeneration in the local mucosal muscle was suspected; C: Masson staining was positive, indicating that the subepithelial substances were collagen fibers (arrow).
